[There's no repairing his arm, he finds out once he gets back, not without some help. There's frost covering the outer casing already, and it hangs at his side, a dead weight that can't be moved. Either he removes it--which is going to be painful and not at all easy, and not going to help at all--or he asks for help on the network, because he doesn't really know that many people with the necessary skills.

It takes him a while to do it, but sometime after lunch, this pops up on the network:]

does anyone here know anything about repairing advanced tech when it breaks [ie, his frost-covered left arm] barring that, can someone who can draw things and have them come to life help, I just need a few things drawn for me

[ It's not been often lately that any of the gods have seemed outright celebratory on the network, but here you have it now: Thor's face is lit up with a brilliant and almost triumphant grin. ]

Polish your armor and sharpen your swords. We've taken Tyr and his power out of Thiazi's hands, and we know now for sure: she will not stand a chance against us and our dragon friends.

We will leave at sunrise in two days' time, and know this, Travelers - she is afraid, and with good reason. In two days, we march to victory.

[ ooc notes: He'll be hanging around a while if anyone has any questions, but feel free to use this post for ic discussion/planning too! The ooc event post will go up detailing all of the minutia in the morning. Thanks! ]

[ This is Odin's first real public appearance since the martial law was first instated, an intentional move after the whole traitor fiasco, and despite his standard crisp black suit and ramrod straight posture, the King of Asgard is still looking a little rough around the edges. A muscle jumps in his jaw right before he begins speaking. ]

There's a decision to be made. You handled the last with a surprising amount of grace and reason, and for your hand in both getting us to this point and in the war at large, we'll give you say in this one as well.

You returned from Mimisbrunnr with the information we needed to recover Tyr's soul from Thiazi's grasp, but we've been waiting for the right moment. We need to be prepared, because as soon as we make our move, she's going to know, and she's going to be pissed.

[ At least for that much, he almost looks pleased, insofar as the only change in his demeanor being a sort of fire in his eyes. It's short lived. ]

So. Before we perform the ritual, we need to decide what to do with Tyr's soul once we have it. This is where you come in. My colleagues and I will be around to answer any questions you might have, but seeing as this is a largely personal matter for many of us, I'll remind you lot to either keep it professional or keep it to yourself.

[ Looking @ u, Freyr and Loki and any other bleeding hearts in the audience. ]

We need to act fast, so you have until sundown. And one last word of caution - [ As personal as Odin will get for this post, with an imperceptible glare. ] - do not take this lightly.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the IC discussion regarding whether or not to resurrect Tyr! The poll is still open until Oct. 16 at 11:59PM CST, so hash things out and make sure to vote!! Let us know if you have any questions or if you'd like to request an NPC in specific for your thread! ]

[There’s a close-up of an eye first, topped by a bushy eyebrow, and then the image pulls back to reveal the stern-looking face of an older man. When he speaks, it’s brisk, with a Scottish accent.]

Interesting communication device you’ve got there, definitely not like any technology I recognise. It obviously broadcasts a signal - or else I’m talking to myself, which is one of the signs of a severely disturbed mind - but how? And, more importantly, to whom?

What I’m really interested in here, though, is how you’ve managed to muck around with my biology. I’ve been human once or twice, but the change involved is a bit complicated and messy. Here I am, though, human again, no scars, all my memories intact, and I’d quite like to know how you’ve done it.

[A pause, and then he narrows his gaze.]

And then I’d like you to change me back.

[This message is unfiltered. It's that adorable, smug, irritating face that pretty much everybody in Asgard wants to punch. He hasn't been on the network in a while, but he's also been overworked helping to keep things nice and stable and the magic going properly, and some of his antics have been a little draining.

But he's back, from outer space... or whatever. Aren't you all lucky?

Behind him is a spear of jagged, ugly, blackish ice that people in the north of town have likely seen several times before. The remnants of Thiazi's backlash some time ago remain, despite efforts and study. Finally, folding his arms, he turned towards the feed and spoke. For once? He didn't sound too arrogant.]

Alright, so I know a few of you've been talking about ideas on how to clean the porch up. I think we've done enough window dressing for my tastes. It's high time we dealt with this thing. I'm all for your brilliant ideas. This is exactly what the engineers are supposed to do anyway.

And don't be shy. Just because you're not in my glorious band of misfit idiots doesn't mean you can't help. It's not like anybody wants this health hazard to stick around. So pipe up. I know some of you have been coming up with ideas, but it's time to actually get started, wouldn't you say?

(OOC: Threadjacking is invited in this thread. This is a chance for Engineers to plot/plan and non-engineers to add their own muscle. Several players have voiced interest in bringing down this ice flow and rebuilding the wall/Gate of Fire. I know at least 2-3 who've made attempts. You're all invited. Baldr's just being his usual dick self and kicking things in gear. Ultimately, it's player plots that will bring it down. I'll check with the mods on the 'how')

[This is Maribelle. This is Maribelle, looking distinctly unimpressed. This is also her realizing that she might just be painting a giant target on her back. Any questions?]

Well, then. As though we all simply hadn't enough to deal with as things are, we now have a traitor in our midst. How very distressing! [cue a prudish sniff] As if we simply hadn't enough to deal with, now tensions are running high, and with barely a clue as to the identity of the culprit in sight.

Therefore, I have a proposal. I have heard that those of Loki's house are often gifted in telepathy, and those of my own - that is, Freya - may sometimes charm others. I wish to ask if anyone of Loki's house might wish to join with me, in order to question people.

Please, do not misunderstand me. I have absolutely no wish to even so much as attempt to force anyone, and I myself will gladly volunteer to be questioned, as well. However, I wish to at least narrow down the list of suspects. Even if we do not find the dastard, we can, at least, learn who the turncoat isn't, and any amount of information shall greatly help us.

Should anyone be interested in helping me, I shall gladly accept. Please do feel free to contact me.

[Roland sits amid wood, nails, and wire, scattered in a few small piles across the overgrown back yard. A little ways behind him, eagle-eyed viewers might notice a chicken in the process of laying an egg.]

Fiona Gallagher's... gone home. She, ah-- [He shakes his head, starts over, nodding at the house his camera's not at the right angle to show.] Anything in there's fair game. Odin 107, I mean. I won't be needing any of it. The door'll be open. Probably food and furniture, mostly - anything in the cupboards or refrigerator, anything not nailed down, bar the refrigerator and stove. I think the place came with those. [He shakes his head again, realizing he might be starting to ramble.] Doesn't matter. Corn, beans, squash plants in the back. Take them. Can probably see 'em behind me somewhere.

[Another chicken starts to peck at his sleeve and he lifts his arm, blinking at it.]  Ah. Couple chickens, if you can catch them. Is that all? I think... I could probably use a couple extra hands to get all this wood and a couple of these plants over to Freyr district. And I... to be honest, I could probably use the company.

Bowls. I'll need a few of the bowls to transport these plants in. Other than that... Plates, silverware, clothes, bedding. Doesn't matter. I'll be leaving once it's empty. If I'm not here, don't take any of the magic plants. I'll find you. [The tone of that last is too absent for it to sound like a threat. It sounds, if anything, like an afterthought.]

The door's open. Have I said... [He has, probably. Roland shakes his head again, grimacing at himself, and cuts the feed.]

(ooc: If your character would drop by, this post doubles as a log post. Either prose or this format works, I'm comfortable with either.)

Attention, Asgard:

Please exercise caution in approaching the scarab beetles that have descended upon the city. They feed upon human flesh and are capable of burrowing under the skin in pursuit of the same.

[That's not true in Asgard, of course! Here, they only give nasty bites. But Evy's not aware of that key difference--she's not about to let one near her flesh, if she can help it.]

They were very occasionally used, in fact, as a rather torturous means of execution in ancient Egypt. A swarm of scarabs will happily kill its human prey and devour the flesh over months or years. They are also capable of remaining very, very still, or so I'm told; even if a beetle appears to be dead, err on the side of leaving it alone.

I suppose I ought to apologize on my world's behalf for bringing the little beasts into the city. Believe me, we didn't much care for them at home, either.

Good morning, Asgard.

[ It's a joke, see? Because he's been asleep for fifty days, just recently woken to dreams of the Mother burning and the whispers of the inevitable end. Odin's a clever one, pale and worn as he looks in his customary sharp suit. ]

It's a relief, if not a surprise, to see most of my city still standing. You've done well beside my son, and for that, you have my gratitude.

[ Such a proud Allpapa. But that's as lighthearted as this address gets. Buckle in, kiddos. ]

But I'm not here to waste time with formalities today. No more beating around the bush. No jokes, no tricks, no clever riddles. No more bullshit.

This is the end. I heard Her whispers while I slept, and I have Seen it as you all did last night. You shouldn't need me to tell you that this is a reality anymore. This is the end.

You have a choice. You weren't brought here to be our soldiers and fight as our army, but we can't afford to keep Asgard half in the battlefield and half behind closed doors for your comfort anymore. Still, we promised that we would never force your hand, so - a choice.

We don't have enough control over the spell that binds you here to pick and choose for this, it's all or nothing. If you want to stay and fight this war, we'll start the process of gearing this kingdom for its true purpose. But if you want to leave, to go home and be with what's left of your homes for whatever time remains, we'll shut the doors and see what the Fates decide for us.

[ A pause, as he considers. ]

I don't have a rousing speech for you. It's not my thing; you can talk to my colleagues if you need a group hug. But - I will say one thing.

We accepted the title of "god" not because we are all-seeing, all-powerful beings. You already know that we aren't. It's just a word given value by those that speak it, as is the nature of language. This is called the "Holy City" because it was created as a refuge for the lost beings that would've been left to die outside our walls. We are called "gods" because our citizens believe in us as their higher power for protection and guidance where otherwise there is none.

We're children of faith. And where Ragnarok has been set in stone since the beginning of time, we've pushed back against it because we have faith. You are the byproduct of that; we did the impossible to fight inevitability, and you are the proof of that. Which is to say -

[ An amused, tired shrug. ]

- who knows what the Hell we can do next?

[ Just before signing off, he'll add one more thing with a ping to Jo Harvelle and The Fourth Doctor in specific. ]

I want to speak with those of you that left the city recently. You know who you are.

[ OOC NOTES: Yay, Odin's awake again! This is the IC conclusion to May's events, and the IC discussion that will bring us into Arc 5. As was already decided in December via player poll, the city will be militarising to amount a counterattack against the Giants. This post is to discuss all that! The OOC rundown of what happens next is over here. Feel free to ask questions and let us know if you'd like a specific god to pop into any of your threads, as we'll all be hanging about! ]

[Have a particularly charming British accent address you all as he's settling himself in. It's not that he's particularly not wanting to show his face. After all it's enough that people can easily find him here, even if he may or may not have already lied about his identity.]

So as I understand it, and pardon the questions since I'm sure you all go through this periodically it seems, but this city and its gods are under attack, and they've called upon us to save it and their people and our own worlds from becoming colorless drabs.

Now that's all fine and well, who doesn't love a good epic, but my only question is why do they remove our own abilities? I know for a fact with the lot that have been taken from my own, plus toss in a few good witches, and this whole affair would be over by Christmas, back to our own worlds where we have pressing matters. [Like taking over New Orleans.]

I'm not saying I'm any type of hero. In fact I'm finding myself at a loss of what to do here. So aside from the gripes about losing my power as an Original vampire and all it took to gain becoming a hybrid again, [You know, poor Aunt Jenna] I have little knowledge on what to do here.

So I ask both about the purpose of these powers these gods have bestowed as well as the power structure of this place. I'm sure there must be someone monopolizing on the power or rather powerless here.

[Sam has been essentially silent for the past two or three weeks.

He's been researching -- something that's been disrupted due to Asgard falling apart at the seams for what feels like the tenth time this month, but Sam has finally reached a conclusion. A pretty obvious one, if he says so himself. And so he turns on the video feed, looking tired -- drawn, with messy hair, almost like he hasn't slept in a few days (which, let's be real, he totally hasn't), and he draws in a deep breath before speaking.]

This world isn't going to last much longer unless we do something.

[ From behind Daenerys an obscured view of the refugee camps can be seen. There's a calm and collected expression on her face, her back straight. ]

Recovery efforts are continuing, and so I must ask for a short moment of your time. [ A pause, and she continues, a slip of urgency and command underneath her tone. ]

Dr. Leonard McCoy will be overseeing a check-in clinic for our incoming refugees, to be located near their camps. Its purpose will be to see to the ill and the injured - to assess our arrivals and be sure that they receive proper treatment before entering the city.

For this we have need of volunteers, able bodies. Those with medical knowledge or the power of healing will be needed for determining what level of care each patient requires, as well as administering that care. We also ask for those with the power of damage drain and other supportive powers, as well as those with skill for keeping order and records that shall be needed to run the clinic. Answer me here and we will find a place for you. [ One that will likely take up the next few days, if they are willing. ]

Should you have medical supplies to spare, we will gladly make use of them.

For those unable to offer assistance, I only ask that you help spread this message to the rest of the city. [ Any and all natives, those that may have entered the city already without seeking assistance, and any natives that might be willing to help. ]

To this message I have attached another - a document written by Dr. McCoy, explaining the dangers posed in the aftermath of this flood. We urge you to read it and take whatever precautions necessary to avoid the spread of disease, as is commonplace in these conditions.

Any questions may be directed toward this message.

[ Attached is a text document with said instructions. ]

( OOC: The original ooc post for the check-in clinic can be found here here, feel free to use this IC one as your sign-up! A log has been set up here for any and all volunteers to participate in. Replies may also come from Bones [personal profile] sufferably. Thanks everyone! )

( the video begins with doctor mccoy, sitting at a desk in his room in sigyn. he looks particularly business-like, hair combed and expression serious, hands folded in front of him. before he speaks, he clears his throat—it’s almost as if he’s still a little uncomfortable to be addressing so many people at once, but that’s the only sign of it. )

Figure it’s best to get this out of the way while we’ve got the time. ( before another disaster or attack happens, he means. ) I like having a frame of reference—makes it easier to deal with people, and treat ‘em too, when you have to. I know we’re all working off the same magical system, here, but it’s better to account for specifics all the same.

That being said, here’s a list. Fill it out if you want, don’t bother telling me why not if you don’t want to. You can be as specific, or as vague, as you want, or leave out questions entirely if they bother you. If it makes you feel better, you can secure it and have my word as a doctor that I’ll keep it confidential.

( attached is this text form: )

name:
age:
species:
location prior to asgard: planet, city, country, realm, etc.
is your world more familiar with magic, technology/science, or both?:
which power did you receive in asgard?:
did you have any skills, powers or abilities that you lost once here?:
are conditions here generally better, worse, or the same as your prior location?:

That’s about all. Not much else to do on a rainy day, is there.

( ooc / a textbox, for convenience: )

[The video pops on revealing the room the Doctor and River share at Thor 103. There is a figure standing in front of a mirror, a young woman. She looks at herself in the mirror putting lipstick on and straightening the leather jacket she put on. Someone who knows the female inhabitant of that room may notice that the clothes she wears all belong to River Song.

Then she turns around, her long braided hair whipping behind her and closes in on the camera.]

So now you decide to transmit, eh? It's just as well.

[She smirks, showing a set of white and perfect teeth.]

Anyone care to tell me where I am? Just woke up in this bed and the last thing I remember isn't exactly getting into it.

Where did you guys hide Hitler? It was just starting to get funny, you know?

Doctor? Amy? Rory? You can come out now, 's not a good joke at all.

[Attentive viewers may notice that the video is transmitted by River Song. Odd, isn't it?]

[ so perhaps there are no riddles today. or perhaps there are always riddles to what she says, who knows, truly. there is a disappointment and there is interest in what this city has dealt her. it leads her to contrasting urges ( destroy. observe. participate ).

the choice will have an impact, certainly. but for today, just a message. ]

It would seem that the gods of Asgard have finally understood what some knew all along; that two of Holmes in the same city will either lead to madness or to a disappointing stagnancy from both sides. Especially if the two answer to the same first name; and any measure of stagnancy from one answering to the name Holmes would be a tragic matter.

As such and in an attempt to balance the equation, it would seem (1) Sherlock Holmes is no longer among us.

I trust that if you have a matter to settle with him his partner, miss Joan Watson would be all too pleased to assist you.

[ and then; as if the next thought is a fleeting thing, it is voiced, too. as if it has any connection to the previous subject.

(it has everything and nothing to do with it). ]

How many of you know the natives by their first names, I wonder?

[ when the feed flickers on, Gwen looks- well prepared. yeah. that's a good term for it. she's nervous about making this post ( a live feed over a network of people she's never met before - stranger danger, much? ), but she's dead center in the frame, sitting a respectable distance away from it, hair pulled back in a neat ponytail, the little bit of the room shown behind her just as presentable. like she's prepared herself for a video chat conference with the dean of admissions to a potential university, or the CEO of a company she plans to work for. which is, kind of, what she's doing here.

only she has no idea who she'll be speaking with, or what sort of job interview will follow all of this. fun stuff! ( only not, for the girl who loves to Plan and Prepare and Succeed )
]

Hello, Asgard. My name is Gwen Stacy, I'm a senior at Midtown Science High School, and chief intern of Oscorp Industries. [ her eyes crinkle as she pauses ] Which I realize has nothing to do with anything here, but admittedly I'm a little bit nervous. [ which is like, rule number one, don't let interviewers see that you have any reason to be nervous, BUT OH WELL ]

I'm fairly new to the city, but I've been here long enough to learn that there's no telling if or when we'll be returning home, which means we should plan for the long-term, yeah? And my long term includes getting a job, preferably something relating to what I was doing back home, if at all possible.

I was literally weeks away attending my graduation ceremony from high school, where I'm from, so for all intents and purposes I'll be saying I'm a 4.2 GPA high school graduate, with three years intern experience at Oscorp Industries. In the Genetics department, specifically. [ a beat ] Oscorp Industries is one of the leading companies in science, medical, and engineering fields, it's- huge. It was an honor to work there for as long as as much as I did. [ until her mentor went crazy and turned himself into a mutant lizard but we won't go there ]

I understand this city is- very magic-centric. [ "MAGIC". what even. what even. she can cool her soda with a touch of her finger, but she's still not completely impressed with any of this "MAGIC" business ] But I was hoping to find a job here that might allow me to keep studying and learning about science. Any kind, really, although I mainly focused on biochemical genetics and a number of other lab sciences. I do have a fascination with robotics, and biomedical studies, but my knowledge on the subjects aren't as high.

I- If I had my iPad here, I would be able to link my college resume here, but unfortunately I'm without, so. [ she seriously looks like she's afraid of disappointing someone right now, so guilty ] I suppose you'll have to take my word for it.

But, really, any help finding employment here would be really, really appreciated. If there are any labs here at all, even if they're not hiring, I would love to know more about that. I suppose I could extend my search to- medical facilities, if anyone needs pharmaceutical assistants, or anything, really...

[ she finally takes a breath, and she realizes she hasn't actually looked directly into the camera since she started rambling on and on. not that she's looking all around, but maybe she's been watching her own video feed, making sure she doesn't look completely nervous. so then she finally lifts her eyes up to the camera, breathes, and smiles. ]

Wow, that got really longwinded. Sorry. Basically, I'm just hoping there's someone in the city that might be interested in hiring an over-qualified assistant, or would be willing to take on an intern to help me learn about- whatever fields of science are actually relevant here. If any.

Alternately, if there are any students here that need a tutor, or would just like to have some extra study time outside of class, I would be more than willing to work with you.

-- Thank you.

[ CLICK.. FINALLY. ]

[Though the video starts, Bran takes a moment to speak. He knows it on, but asking this wasn't the easiest thing for him.]

I've been told that it's possible for a chair to have wheels on it, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to make one? I would like one, but I'm not sure how to go about getting one. I know I will have to pay for it, but maybe that is something we can work out later.

I just wouldn't mind being independent for a change.

[He let out a sigh. It wasn't easy doing this, but he knew he had to ask.]

Thank you.

[Sam hasn't posted on the network in awhile -- a month and a half, to be precise -- mostly because he's been busy. He's moved, he's working a lot, he's been dealing with his own... particular brand of issues.

But Asgard is having difficulty. Odin is in a coma and while Sam might hate the annoying pretentious prick, that's most definitely not a good sign. And while before Sam couldn't rationalize in his head that the end of this world meant the end of others -- now, it's a possibility, something he can't ignore.

He wants to stay here. He wants to stay, badly.

To do that, Sam needs to reach out and touch base on his resources.]

Hi, Asgard.

[He makes this speech too often, but it's gotten him a lot of good friends out of the deal. Information is pretty priceless, after all.]

I'm Sam Winchester. Some of you might've been given my guide to the gods upon arrival, so -- if you have any questions concerning this world, the powers you've been given, or what's happened here so far, you can ask me.

[He pauses.]

I usually don't ask for things in return, but -- how are the state of your worlds, at home, before you came here? Good, bad? Spectacularly awful? On the brink of collapse or the height of prosperity? I'm just... wondering.

[Another pause.]

-- thanks.

Perhaps I should have done this much sooner. I don't know what compelled me not to. The idea of 'second chance', perhaps. But it's been brought to my attention by one Harry Potter that some people might not deserve a second chance. I don't want to judge one way or the other, but information? Information I can give.

Severus Snape is the founder and headmaster of the school here in Asgard, named after a great man, Albus Dumbledore. Both of them are from my world, although I've unfortunately never had the opportunity to really get to know Albus overly well as myself. He didn't care much for the likes of me growing up.

On the other hand, I know Severus Snape fairly well, although I won't deny that he's a complex person. Two years older than me, I've rarely met anyone who'd be a match for him in creativity and cruelty. Although I'm not and never was the type to look up to anyone, if I was, it might have been to him. I've seen him kill, maim and torture. I've heard him come up with plans and ideas to effectively cause the greatest suffering to the most people. I've met many cruel men and women in my time, but never anyone who'd combine such destructive energy with such cold logic. In his defense - perhaps? - it never seemed as if he took much pleasure from killing or hurting.

What he does take pleasure in is establishing his superiority, abusing his powers - whatever they might be - to make others feel weak. I've experienced it in person both back in my world and here. I've seen him use it against others, like his victims and his students, countless times. Just recently someone we both taught at one point, Neville Longbottom, arrived here and confirmed my suspicion that he never found it necessary to reign in these urges.

This man has not only killed and tortured, but even once he'd seemingly abandoned that path, the psychological terror never stopped. I am not surprised that he'd start a school here. What better way to access young and fictile minds?

I'm aware that many might not see it fit to believe me. Mr Longbottom might perhaps be easier trusted. I'm sure he has no reason to keep anyone concerned from the truth. Others from my world might have more motive to hold on to some grudges while brushing over others. War always has many sides and each tries to shape the truth to their advantage. I've merely stated facts.

Oh, and before I forget. Draco Malfoy, whatever is it that you did or promised to do to earn a place I doubt you deserve?

[ooc: When two Death Eaters fight, all of Asgard can come in and enjoy themselves. Choose sides or just eat popcorn! Also: There will be a destructive plot involving the school this month, keep your eyes on the ooc comm for that.]
