first of all: did anyone else have really weird dreams last night?
or really weird... dream, i guess
it felt like it went on forever :/

secondly: i want to introduce everyone to my grandpa!! he just arrived in the city and he will be my new roommate :D
now he is a little odd so i want everyone to be really nice to him
(and he is sort of old so his hearing is not always up to par, either, but he tries really hard)
but really he is the best grandpa in the world, lol

[ And Jade will just send over a few snapshots of a grown man who has clearly been taxidermied, mounted on a wooden base that keeps him upright. Most of Jade's dog Becquerel can be seen in the pictures, sleeping peacefully at his feet. ]

i am sure you guys will get along :p

[Hey, Asgard. Have a Stiles popping up on the screen, grinning a bit wider than usual.]

Okay, normally I'm not all cute kittens and cuddly fluffy things or talking baby talk to animals, because that's kind of dumb -- except when Rachel does it and then it's oddly endearing.

[He looks like he's actually trying to rationalize why that's a thing for a second, but it's only a second before he's back to paying attention to the screen again.]

Anyway, yeah, well, fluffy advocate or not, I figured there might be some people who'd find this amusing and maybe a little entertaining.

[The screen shifts, showing the center of what is Stiles' bedroom. There's a wolf cub sitting there, looking up at him with its little tail wagging. The screen shifts a little to show the bed, Hale sitting there looking up at him as well, giving a tiny chirp. After about three seconds, Stiles yells, "KAMIKAZEE!" and Hale screeches, jumping from the bed onto the cub -- who happens to be jumping for the dragon at the same time.

There's a tussle of fur and scales, wings flapping and yips, growls, chirps, and squawks sounding before the cub stands, pinning the dragon down by his wings and tipping her head up, giving a tiny little baby howl in victory before flopping down on top of her defeated foe.

A wing curled over the cub and they both just sort of cuddled up, little huffs and sounds leaving them like they were having some kind of private conversation.

The screen went back to Stiles.]

Okay, I'm secure in my masculinity and all that, but come on... how adorable was that?

[Video opens to a room in Sigyn that hardly seems lived in. By a person, at any rate, if only because there are no less than three dogs and something that is clearly not a dog and no one in their right mind would look at it and think, "that's a dog." They would look at it and think, "that's a wolf, I should probably not try to befriend it because it'll rip me to shreds." But not Will Graham, oh no. The wolf is apparently king of the bed, resting on the pillow (if someone thought, "that is probably the pillow this guy sleeps on and it's covered in fur," then someone would be right). Another dog is currently chewing a bone next to it, and a small, fluffy, orange dog rests just barely in view. But that's not really the focus (apparently, they're just background, even the wolf) here. No. It's a particular dog who seems enthralled with this almost-as-scruffy guy, turning a collar over in his hands like he's never seen one before. That one hand is in a cast is completely ignored, though he's obviously favoring the good one because this guy is completely stable. Really. Legitimately functional in every way possible.

This is Will Graham, and the dog-covered room is totally his design.
]

Does anyone here know Jade Harley? [Gemstone Motorcycle. What a name.] I found this dog earlier today, and her name is on the collar. I figured it was hers. [Because no one else could come to that conclusion, clearly he needed to make sure that this one leap in logic was easily understood. A moment passes before he looks behind him, almost like he's forgotten there's other dogs. And a wolf. On his bed. No big deal, right?] I found some others, too, so if they're anybody's, please let me know. They didn't have collars, so. I just brought them back. [It's pretty obvious that he'll keep doing it, too. Can't be stopped.] Thanks in advance.

[ooc. jade's dog and robb stark's direwolf stolen found with permission from the players! if someone wants to get in on "my dog!!!" madness, shoot me a pm and we'll be gravy! just let him keep the tiny dog, the other is up for grabs.]

Hello! My name is Remus Lupin; I've been here for a while, but this is my first time posting here, so, er, hello. I've a few questions, if you don't mind answering:

Firstly, how many of you aren't human originally? Vampires, werewolves, succubi, veela, angels, et cetera. And if you are, how did coming to Asgard change you, in terms of your physiology?

Secondly! How many of you come from worlds that have time travel? And if so, what are their rules regarding changing things around via time? How many of you have met people from your significant past or future?

Obviously, I'll respect everyone's privacy; if you respond privately, I absolutely will not tell anyone what you've written-- which, I know you don't know me, but my word seems to be one of the few things I have left in Asgard.

Thank you very much for your contribution.

[Private to: H. Potter, J. Potter, L. Potter, H. Granger, S. Black, D. Malfoy, A. Dumbledore, and S. Snape:]

As the post implies, my own lycanthropy has been cured; I'm entirely human now. So you all know. Severus, I don't think there's much of a reason to keep me out of teaching at your school any longer. Do you have anyone teaching classic literature?

05 December 2013 @ 08:23 pm
Hello, everyone; I hope you're all keeping safe after the rescue mission and everything that happened before that. If there's anything I can do to help anyone please let me know.

I was actually hoping to ask for a little help from everyone here. I'm planning on taking up the position of teaching the History of Magic once Professor Snape has the school up and running and the schedules working out, so I was wondering if there was anyone who'd like the history of their world taught during their classes. I've written up a rough guideline for the class as it stands, based on the history of my own world, but I think it would be even more fascinating with a greater world view.

If anyone has anything they want to add to the courses please let me know!

[ PRIVATE TO REMUS LUPIN ]
Remus, I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be with it, but... Would you, perhaps, be willing to help me with the werewolf culture course? I'd really like to open up a debate about how unfair the wizarding world is with regards to the treatment of werewolves and it wouldn't be right to teach the course without actually asking someone with experience.
[ / END PRIVATE ]

[River is in the Freyr Welcome Hall and she is surrounded by cake. There are lines of cakes on tables and drinks set up. It is obviously intended to be a bit of a party.]

We have cake and drinks and music. We have a reason to celebrate being alive. We have the ability to dance on our feet and revel in each other.

Whoever you are, whatever you've done to survive, come by. Celebrate that you're still standing for a while.

It's recently occurred to me that I need some better security for my shoppe. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am learning runes, but there may be something better.

I'd appreciate any advice on the matter.

[Severus turns on the video feed, adjusts the angle a little - he's in one of the rooms in The Great Library - and clasps his hands together in front of him on the table. He has meticulously prepared himself for this announcement, right down to a list of points that he's written out that he wants to address. The list is laid out in front of him on the desk. It occurs to him to make the video filtered from the Dark Lord's prying eyes; he is not, however, addressing anything of a personal nature, and he knows the Dark Lord would find out the details of the school regardless.]

As some of you may recall, I made an announcement not too long ago concerning a proposal to establish a structured education system for the youth of Asgard. Due to… certain recent events [and by "certain events", he means being visited by the Gentlemen, not that he has any interest in discussing that matter], I experienced some setbacks in terms of organising things in a timely manner, hence the delay in my getting back to you all. However. A number of people expressed interest as a result of my last announcement and so I've decided to pursue with my proposal. The details I've worked out thus far are as followed:

[He pauses to glance down at the list. Just as he does so, a tall emu idly plods past behind him. It stops just short of disappearing from the video's field of vision; it cranes it long neck to preen its downy feathers.]

In which Snape talks about donations to help fund the school )

[ The video starts a bit before Arthur intends for it to, with him sitting in Very Serious Contemplation. Something on his mind, perhaps, but it's not important, not like what he actually came here to do. ]

As many of you have come to notice of late, the need to be capable of defending ourselves becomes more prudent with every passing day. And so it is that I would like to introduce myself to you once more.

[ A beat, the first time he's hesitated in an address like this, and he's made about ten of them. ]

I am Arthur Pendragon, and for those of you new to Asgard or as yet unfamiliar with me, I own and operate the Citadel in the Thor district. We offer training in various forms of combat, from standard self-defence to swordsmanship, and in recent - reconstructions - I have modified the firing range for both archery and marksmanship.

[ Yes, it took two years for Arthur to accept guns into the Citadel. Don't offend his delicate medieval sensibilities!! He looks distracted again for a second before adding, a bit more subdued: ]

Please do come and join us. Payment is negotiable, as I'd prefer to see you well learned and ready above all else. I am also looking for new instructors, as we've had many departures of late. If you're interested, please contact me privately to discuss the - matters.

[ The thing, the thing; what a lame finish. His brows furrow, and that niggling thought just won't quit. He eventually blurts it out, all air of formality and serious business gone. ]

I - [ H U F F ] - this is. Entirely unrelated, but I've been made to wonder and I can't quite wrap my mind around -

[ huff huff Stop rambling, get on with it, etc etc. ]

How many among you doubt me when I claim the name of King Arthur? I'd been told there are ... tales, of my kingdom and my quests, but I wasn't aware there was any question as to my existence until -

[ Until Spike. Everything is Spike's fault. Arthur frowns. ]

Never mind. It's not important. Come to the Citadel to learn your defences. Thank you.

[ wow much serious very business what a finish wow. ]

[ ooc; The link is not IC and is just for OOC reference! If you're interested in having your character teach some things, please hit me up on that post or on plurk first so we can figure things out. If you're a current instructor, please tell me if I got anything wrong on the info page, it's the first time I've updated in months and months cries. This post is silly and I apologise. ]

[ so, texting still isn't Lily's favorite way of communicating to the public masses- she's still getting used to it, and she's sure there would be nothing more embarrassing than releasing a string of typos onto the network. so. this message is very carefully being typed!! not too slowly, but she rereads it twice over before sending this first bit out. SO IMPORTANT. ]

While I am usually an advocate of researching and learning new things on my own time, in light of recent events, I've decided there's really no reason why I should feel shy about the few questions I've had as of late regarding the use of runic magic in the city. Memorizing patterns hasn’t been a problem, the basic principles behind this particular kind of magic is something I've been studying for a few years now, back home, but there are some differences in the magic here that I would love to have cleared up, if there is anyone here that might know:

1: For runes used in combat ( both offensive and defensive runes ), is there a way to avoid using a "weapon" to activate said runes? Something non-contact, perhaps, that could still transfer the power of the runes onto the intended target.

[ yes, Lily is asking for suggestions of some kind of non-violent... weapon. don't you judge her. she and James are actually trying to come up with a rune to make that possible already, but, hey. if somebody’s got it now, she’d like to know

speaking of james. if anyone notices a subtle change in type from here on it, it’s because a certain husband has appeared and has noticed just how long it takes his wife to type on these bracelet things. it’s still coming from the bracelet of ‘lily potter’, but she’s no longer the one typing. thank merlin.
]

2) would anyone be interested in practicing rune combat? at hogwarts (the school where we learned how to use magic back home) we had a duelling club, which was essentially a place we could meet and learn different strategies and tactics. it gave us a chance for some kind of experience outside of books and essays (though some people here preferred that. how? I have no bloody idea)

also, I do hope you lot will forgive lils here about the weapon bit. she’s not too keen on the idea, since we didn’t need much more than our wands back home. the fact they’re all but useless here is harder for her to deal with than the rest of us. we’re not all that stubborn about the idea.

she’s brilliant with her pen, but not so much the sword.
[ get it? get it? he’s so clever. ] if anyone’s interested, the dueling would most likely happen when there aren’t creatures after our hearts. just for safety purposes. and for the whole not being able to talk bit. drop us a line if you know anything.

[ because someone needs to go and tease a certain someone about not being able to type, little miss perfect can’t even figure out a keyboard ]

Hey, so I got this from home a while ago.

[ Outside in Freya's district, Scott shows a shot of his bike using the bracelet's camera. ]

I got it back when those apples were everywhere. I'm calling it Kermit. [ Because it has to have a name and it's really green. ] You know, like the frog? [ It's cute, okay? Shut up. ]

Anyway, because it's from my future, I don't know how to ride it. [ Yet. ] And my best friend is worried I'm gonna break a load of bones teaching myself, so I'd really appreciate if someone with motorcycle experience could help me out? Give me some pointers? [ Teach him how to not crash and burn, basically. ]

Does anyone else have a motorcycle here? Maybe we could start our own club. [ Scott McCall's motorcycle club. That would be hilarious. ]

A brief announcement, if I may have your attention for just a moment.

[Severus is sitting stern and straight-backed at his desk in his room. On his desk are several stacks of books, along with a small but neat pile of papers, the masquerade mask Miss Liddell made for him, and a few jars of preserved swearing toads and other small creatures he's procured mostly from Gefion Park. Behind him hanging from the ceiling and along the wall are a few bunches of drying and curing plants.

He knows the Dark Lord is probably watching this. Ever since learning of the Dark Lord's arrival in Asgard (Severus can only think of him as the Dark Lord; the name Lord Voldemort makes him feel ill to his stomach with disgust) and ever since happening upon him at the festival, Severus has been on a high state of alert. He manages only through years of practice to make himself seem solemnly composed and authoritative to those watching the video feed, but he's inwardly twisted into a dozen uneasy knots.]

For those who don't know who I am, my name is Professor Severus Snape. I was a teacher and Potions Master at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry for close to twenty years. [He was also briefly Headmaster, but under circumstances that make him feel ill to his stomach to think about; and mentioning it as though it's a title he's earned feels like a tasteless display of dishonour and disrespect to Dumbledore. And so, he leaves that part out.]

It's come to my attention that Asgard is sorely lacking with regards to any kind of structured education. I would have thought that the gods, having annexed young people for their, shall we say, agenda, would have at least seen fit to implement some manner of methodised tutelage for those still in their formative years. Having taken up the task of tutoring one young person in Asgard, it's occurred to me that there are others who would be in just as much need of educational guidance and academic discipline. And seeing the gods seem to care not a whit for organising such things, I have taken it upon myself to scope out who, exactly, would be interested in attending structured lessons in a class setting.

[As much as it's been constantly weighing on his mind what his next step ought to be with regards to the Dark Lord, he needs something else to help him stay focused. Occupied. With the appearance of being in complete control; being with direction; being with purpose. More than that, though, Severus needs to find a way to stop the Dark Lord's influence from infecting the minds of others, especially those most impressionable, and he's decided that the best way to do that is to involve himself in Asgard unassumingly. A teacher, after all, is necessary to every society and Asgard is no exception.]

Reading, writing and comprehension will be on the curriculum, to give an idea of what I would be offering, as well as mathematical and scientific application. As I have extensive knowledge in herbology - that is, the study of plants -, alchemy, astronomy and a few other choice specialties teachable on a practical level in Asgard, these will also be included.

I've yet to lay out the finer details but in the interim, I invite any person under the age of 18 to come forward and express their interest in attending my classes. Should you have any queries, direct them to me personally.

[With nothing more to say, he abruptly ends the feed.]

[[ooc: the tl;dr: snape is offering class tutoring open to all kids below 18 in asgard! that said, adult muses can also inquire if your muse is looking for a tutor. if you've any questions about this, don't hesitate to drop me a line at my ooc contact post or over at my plurk. ♥]]

[Looking at her bracelet, it appears that Thalia is a bit preoccupied. Then again, Half-Bloods did tend to have limited attention spans. That fighting instinct was hard-wired into them.

Yet, there is something on her mind. After trying to contact Annabeth and coming up empty-handed, she had gone to Percy, with no luck.

She hadn't tried Luke, but who could blame her.... That was still awkward.]

These bracelets. How do they work?

[Although maybe she should clarify as to what exactly she is looking for.] I don't mean do they run on batteries or something. I'm not really interested in the technical aspect. I mean, can you break them? If so, what happens?Or if you lose it. Can people be said to be missing but not really be missing? ... is there a way to be completely sure that someone has left this place?

[As  no one has told her of that, and she needs to be certain.]

29 August 2013 @ 01:48 pm
[Really, it hasn't been all too long since he last appeared on the network, but today's is brief and rather terse.]

Hermione's gone. That's what it means when their names aren't on the list anymore, right? She hasn't been home for a little over a day. [He'd looked, too.] So, dunno what you lot do about this sort of thing, but I know she'd a place I doubt she'd want run to the ground--

[He cleared his throat.]

Anyway, she's better off back home. This place was messing with her. Least now she can go back to school and do what she wanted. [And it's safer there. He wondered what it would take to stop them from bringing her back, but he knew that was futile.]

This happens a lot around here, eh?

[Gaia is looking a bit terrified as the feed opens.]

Has anyone else been seeing things near the hospital? Of the creepy kind, I mean. I'm quite sure they were not there yesterday or any other day before today...

[Mostly she just wants to make sure she's not going crazy.]

Unless I haven't been here long enough to realize that spirits haunt this place...

[ ahahaha okay, so, Lily's a Muggleborn, right. which means she should probably be alright at handling Muggle technology? only she's from the 70s, and they sure as hell didn't have holographic video screens popping up out of bracelets back then, so even after she watches Loki's ..special guide, she's still left looking a little bewildered. still, she figured out how to play the videos on the main screen, and how to post her own, only she has.. no clue where to go from there. so. ]

Hullo!

[ she sounds cheerful, confused, and damn proud of herself for figuring out how to get this to broadcast. WELL DONE, ME. now, time to kick up some of that bravery in the face of the unknown and get on with it. ]

My name is Lily, and I suppose that, in light of why we've all been brought here, I just wanted to introduce myself straight off. [ yeah she has no idea some people have already been here for a while, oops ] Er, only, just curious - is there some sort of telephone directory I could take a look at? It's entirely possible I've arrived here on my own, but I was- [ apparating ] -going somewhere with someone, before I got here, so I was rather hoping he found his way here too. If so, I'd like to get in touch with him, or with anyone I might already know, and this seems to be the easiest way, only I don't.. completely know how to use this bracelet properly yet. So. Right. I'm sure you see my predicament. [ she's really really really hoping that her husband is here too :c and she's a little nervous he might not be, that nobody she knows from home is and she's been taken here without being able to say goodbye first, hence the rambling ] Either way, I'm still getting settled in, so to speak, but I'll do my best to help out, where I can. [ EVEN WITHOUT HER MAGIC, SOB. ] Luckily- [ Lily stop this really is as corny as you think it will sound ] - I'm all about breaking the ice with new mates, so I'm sure that won't be too difficult.

[ get it, cause Loki's guide said that talking to people and making friends makes your God-given abilities stro-- okay nevermind there's no saving that cornball moment at all ]

Right! Ta, then. And thank you for any help with the technology in advance.
