Dr. Alana Bloom
19 March 2014 @ 02:07 am
[Hey, Asgard! How's things? Alana's coming up on a week here and she's finally getting used to all this magic weirdness that so many people seem to take for granted.

She looks extremely professional today, dressed up like she's got places to go and patients to meet; none her concern about being here, magical powers, or some dog-crazed potential-murderer's mental state showing on her face.]

I'd like to thank again everyone who's helped me over the past few days. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate all of you and the support you've given me.

[It would sound tacky to say that she would gladly return the favor if there's anything she can do, but it goes unsaid- implied with the warmth of her smile.

That warmth shifts to something a little more focused as she changes tack.]
To those of you I haven't met yet, hello. My name is Dr. Alana Bloom and I'm from the same world as Will Graham.

[insert cannibal joke of extremely good taste here]

I'm a doctor of psychiatry. I've worked in that field for over ten years, both independently and consulting with various government agencies, and I've been wondering how I can offer my services now that I'm here. [She's not a soldier, and she has no desire to be found superfluous should some kind of conscription be suddenly introduced.]

With that in mind I'd like to make my services available to anyone who'd like them. I can't say I've dealt with a situation quite as unique as the one we're all in right now, but the basics of sound mental health apply everywhere. You needn't necessarily feel yourself on the edge of a breakdown- I'm happy to help talk through any situation, whether it relates to here or the place you've come from. [She says this with confidence. Having worked with the FBI She doesn't think anything here will shock her.]

The effects of sudden, traumatic changes can be difficult to recognize in your day-to-day life. I know there are many people whose friends and family have also been brought here- sometimes it's easier to see changes in them, and I'm willing to give some limited advice in that area as well. [This isn't a gossip column, and she won't tolerate anyone treating it as such.] Please feel free to contact me any time if you'd like to talk. If you have any questions regarding me or my qualifications, please don't hesitate to ask either. Thank you.

[She ends the video with a link to her secure inbox, in the unlikely case anyone out there has been immediately swayed by her. Those seeking a consultation can answer there or on this post.]

[ when the feed flickers on, Gwen looks- well prepared. yeah. that's a good term for it. she's nervous about making this post ( a live feed over a network of people she's never met before - stranger danger, much? ), but she's dead center in the frame, sitting a respectable distance away from it, hair pulled back in a neat ponytail, the little bit of the room shown behind her just as presentable. like she's prepared herself for a video chat conference with the dean of admissions to a potential university, or the CEO of a company she plans to work for. which is, kind of, what she's doing here.

only she has no idea who she'll be speaking with, or what sort of job interview will follow all of this. fun stuff! ( only not, for the girl who loves to Plan and Prepare and Succeed )
]

Hello, Asgard. My name is Gwen Stacy, I'm a senior at Midtown Science High School, and chief intern of Oscorp Industries. [ her eyes crinkle as she pauses ] Which I realize has nothing to do with anything here, but admittedly I'm a little bit nervous. [ which is like, rule number one, don't let interviewers see that you have any reason to be nervous, BUT OH WELL ]

I'm fairly new to the city, but I've been here long enough to learn that there's no telling if or when we'll be returning home, which means we should plan for the long-term, yeah? And my long term includes getting a job, preferably something relating to what I was doing back home, if at all possible.

I was literally weeks away attending my graduation ceremony from high school, where I'm from, so for all intents and purposes I'll be saying I'm a 4.2 GPA high school graduate, with three years intern experience at Oscorp Industries. In the Genetics department, specifically. [ a beat ] Oscorp Industries is one of the leading companies in science, medical, and engineering fields, it's- huge. It was an honor to work there for as long as as much as I did. [ until her mentor went crazy and turned himself into a mutant lizard but we won't go there ]

I understand this city is- very magic-centric. [ "MAGIC". what even. what even. she can cool her soda with a touch of her finger, but she's still not completely impressed with any of this "MAGIC" business ] But I was hoping to find a job here that might allow me to keep studying and learning about science. Any kind, really, although I mainly focused on biochemical genetics and a number of other lab sciences. I do have a fascination with robotics, and biomedical studies, but my knowledge on the subjects aren't as high.

I- If I had my iPad here, I would be able to link my college resume here, but unfortunately I'm without, so. [ she seriously looks like she's afraid of disappointing someone right now, so guilty ] I suppose you'll have to take my word for it.

But, really, any help finding employment here would be really, really appreciated. If there are any labs here at all, even if they're not hiring, I would love to know more about that. I suppose I could extend my search to- medical facilities, if anyone needs pharmaceutical assistants, or anything, really...

[ she finally takes a breath, and she realizes she hasn't actually looked directly into the camera since she started rambling on and on. not that she's looking all around, but maybe she's been watching her own video feed, making sure she doesn't look completely nervous. so then she finally lifts her eyes up to the camera, breathes, and smiles. ]

Wow, that got really longwinded. Sorry. Basically, I'm just hoping there's someone in the city that might be interested in hiring an over-qualified assistant, or would be willing to take on an intern to help me learn about- whatever fields of science are actually relevant here. If any.

Alternately, if there are any students here that need a tutor, or would just like to have some extra study time outside of class, I would be more than willing to work with you.

-- Thank you.

[ CLICK.. FINALLY. ]

[the video feed shows Kimberly..truthfully not looking her best. Besides looking visibly tired, it's clear she's been blowing her nose a bit and for once she's too sick to care about her appearance save that she's covered. The top of her pink and purple fleece pajamas can be can be seen under the blanket she's wrapped around,  the head dragon she received poking out from the blanket as well.  Still, she has a rant and even if her throat's a little scratchy, she's going to say it.]

Boss lady at work dismissed me early because I was coughing too much for her comfort. How was I supposed to know it'd get this bad an hour after I clock in to the shop?

Also, how's it that we can't really die [that she knew of] in this place, but we can still get sick? What if there's an attack? I've already had to face a monster once recovering from the flu, it's not something I'd like to repeat.

Though it was funny when the thing ended up getting sick right into the fight-who knew human illness was that contagious for monsters?
[It's enough to almost make her laugh, but the effort hurts too much.] Ugh....note to self..no laughing when head hurts this much.

Would anyone in House Freya mind if I plant myself on the sofa in the common room and watch movies? I'm bored lying in bed all day-and I have a can of Lysol so you don't have to worry about getting sick
.

[She turns of the feed moments before she collapses on her bed.]

Elsa

[Another question. Elsa seems so full of them lately. But given that some had....magic, powers back home as well, she can't help but be cautiously curious. As far as she is aware it is just herself and the trolls back home with any sort of magic. However, her conversation with Regina makes her wonder about others, both here and back home that might have magic. It couldn't hurt to learn more about it. Whether or not she remembers, she still can't help being curious about the idea. Feeling.....well, less alone, in the idea that there are others here who had magic back home. That everyone here has magic of sorts. It makes her somewhat more comfortable in talking about her own at least.]

I'm afraid my questions seem never-ending. Once I have one answered, it only ends up bringing more to mind. But....the important one I am curious about is something I understand if some might not want to talk about. I was wondering about back home. How many here had magic or some sort of power. As far as I know, I was the only one with mine back home. I was just curious about others, and if they have different powers here in Asgard, how they are managing learning a new one like I am.
