2nd Battle | VIDEO

[ he may as well use this damn network for research. ]

If you were to take loyalties to a king, what kind of king would you want them to be? Would you think better if they were harsh or if they were wise? What sort of person would you lend your allegiances too?

[ It's a general topic. he's curious to hear the opinions of people around him. he seems less rigid than when he first arrived. the break from all the battles has done well on him. he's not uneasy and robb speaks with a warm confidence. ]

He would have to be someone who cares about the people he rules, understands their lives, and does his best to make the country safe and prosperous for everyone living in it.

Hmmm, well for starters he'd have to value the lives of everyone around him. He'd have to be strong, I guess....and just...hmmm....Oh, he'd had better be honest! Yeah, someone who doesn't go behind people's back. I guess that'd be it.

[Now that Maya isn't donning a beard, she will use the video feature.]

It doesn't matter. Men become corrupted by absolute power. Even good men.

... A king who was fair, and wise yes, I suppose being fair is part of that too. One who isn't afraid to show compassion as much as strength. But it seems to be a good king whose reign lasts long, you must walk the line between fox and lion, so to speak.

That would be my best estimate, sir.

[she gives a graceful nod over the video feed.]

The more freedom any ruler gives, the better.

A leader who expects no more out of the people working below him than he expects of himself. One who commands from the battlefield rather than within the safety of stone walls. Some knowledge of how to manage money, or a willingness to defer that task to someone who will be responsible with it is good as well.

Cares about their people & honorable & understands politics.

[As single traits, those are frequent, but combined... not so much.]

Wisdom's more important. I don't want a stupid boss. Also my people have to like them. And they have to like my people. ...And they can't just let their kid take over when they die.

I would always choose to follow a wise king, he would know when to be harsh, and when to show mercy. A wise king would lead by example, listen to those around him, and judge according to what he sees and not what he thinks to be true.

I would want someone who is both wise and kind, who might value those around him first before thinking of himself.

I don't take loyalties to a king. Prime Minister or President, maybe. But no king.

[ Arthur has to contemplate this one for a good, long while. He's at odds with his own King while facing the looming future of his own ascent to the throne, and he has never been more conflicted. ]

Kingship is hardly so easy a task. "Harsh" and "wise" - it is difficult to know the meaning of the words when one man may claim another's wisdom to be cruelty. There must exist an even balance between the two, if the King is to serve his people as he is meant to.

Does it matter? A king can't possibly make everyone happy. They only have their goals and that's it.

[He sounds almost bitter, but he experienced this first hand. No matter what person he'd tried to become someone always ended up disappointed. Leading a country wasn't easy.]

What one may want in a king does not always make him effective with his power. Even with preferences, one will never know the true character of a man, and what is preferred in theory can become easily despised in the course of its action. And so, a good allegiance is between men who understand such things.

Wise, I would think. If a king were unnecessarily harsh for too long, it could cause his subjects to rebel.

Uh... I don't really know about kings, but I guess Alphas are kinda the same idea...

[and he'd recently broken his allegiance to one alpha in favor of another, so.]

I guess... They kinda have to understand that sometimes it's not just about what a treaty—or a law actually says, it's about the spirit of it, too. And they can't be the type of wo—person who's willing to lead the people following them to certain death. I mean, sometimes people die, and that's life, but if you know that everyone will die or get seriously hurt, and you won't win...

[no, he's getting carried away.]

Yeah. Anyway—that's what I think.
