The human -- and not so human -- psyche is a complicated matter. There could be any number of reasons. Grief, weariness, cowardice, stupidity, curiosity... who knows? Maybe someone just needs a momentary respite.

More often the loss of a bracelet is accidental, but as you may have heard, it is a means of temporary reprieve from the problems they are confronted with. Nevertheless, they are still there when they regain awareness.
