Trust me. Making weapons is a fresh start for me. It's a damned sight better than going on psychotic rages and running from my father and the inquisition.

...now they tie me up when I go nuts.

Why... go into making weapons? Why not do something different and less... violent?

I'm an alchemist and apothecary. I make medicines and poisons. You're going to get both sides of the coin at my shop. I went in for making potions and medicines because that's what I'm good at here, and it lets me feel I have some magic they aren't granting me.

Oh well... [Alice has little else to say on the matter. She doesn't like the idea of poisons or of weapons and this half-demon is doing both.]

That's... nice. [It isn't but the last think Alice wants is to insult a half-demon whether or not her powers worked here.]

Eh, it is what it is. You don't have to like it, but if you need meds, or odds and ends, we're here for that.

I'm not sure I understand though, if people can heal one another, why do you need an apothecary?

Mostly because there's only a couple top level healers around here. They can't just offer their services to everyone who needs healing. They'd exhaust themselves silly.

Besides, it helped when there was a disease that the healers couldn't cure.

There was a disease? That was very nice of you to cure it.

Helped. I won't claim the victory myself. There's much better doctors here who did a lot more, but I did help.

Well helping is still important. We're here to help this world, after all.

It is. When we deal with crap like the plague, it almost always takes a team effort. It's one of the reasons we have people studying a lot of different methods of fighting or facing any different problem.

I wish you would stop using such foul language. But yes, I'm able to see it takes a team effort. But fighting isn't always the answer though. And don't say it isn't, sometimes it isn't.

You are right, though. Sometimes fighting isn't the answer. Sometimes sneaking away works just as well.

Giants, though... this fight tends to be more the beat them up sort of situation most of the time.

The last agent of the giants I met tried to eat me. You'll excuse me, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for talking with them, Alice.

Well, I'm not trying to eat you, certainly. Just because giants tried to do nasty things doesn't mean every argument will be that way.

You're also not a giant. And, no, it doesn't mean every argument's going to turn bloody, but I haven't had a situation with their forces that didn't. Most of the time they're drawing weapons before we can even try to talk.

Are they the only people you've fought with?

Really, there's a lot of people I've fought.

[Alice can't help but notice that the one thing in common is... well... the girl. She can't imagine it's easy to be a half-demon. On the other hand, this girl's answer to everything up until late had been "kill it" or "fight it." So Alice does wonder how much of it is on her shoulders as well.]

If something wants to kill you or eat you, what do you do? I know what I do, but I'm just a little curious. A few of those fights I pretty much picked, but a lot of them just came after me.

Things don't tend to try and eat me or kill me, miss. [Thank heavens! Alice would run, if that ever happened!]

That might have a lot to do with why I'm more on the violent end of things. There's a lot out there that's tried with me.

Well, surely you haven't had as much problem here, except for the giants?

They haven't tried as often, no. That doesn't mean they haven't tried.
