But just imagine! Perhaps according to house -- or, oh, surely we could at least manage to deck out the paintings. The castle gets so dreadfully drafty in winter, a bit of wool might make us all feel a measure more at home. The holidays are so hard on the students that stay through them.

I assure you, enough goes on at Hogwarts as it is without ridiculous frivolities making things even more chaotic.

[What Severus fails to mention is that this is actually making him feel horribly homesick for Hogwarts and the way things were before Voldemort rose again. Dumbledore's idea of entertainment and amusement could be terribly irritating but they never failed to bring a certain atmosphere to Hogwarts that reminded Severus why he called Hogwarts home.]

[He's seriously done with bad news. However, he frankly could also use any excuse to see Dumbledore. The man has a way of being a calming presence. Most of the time, anyway.]

Ah, but magic is born of chaos! We spend enough of the year attempting to impose order over the primordial stew of potential, it only makes good sense to give back every now and again.

I think not. I hope to pick your brain in brief on the matter of Crouch, but frankly I confess that a deal of it is simply the longing for conversation with someone more than three years past their education.
