I've been here almost six months now, with nothing except a bit of a lost bracelet situation to call a holiday, and anyone would think I'd be exhausted. I am, a little, but mostly I'm worried. I do want us all to come out of this alive, even if it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of effort.

[ Because, really, optimism is all she has left. After everything that's happened and with everyone that's come and gone. ]

Would anyone like to spend some time somewhere quiet, maybe? Things have been so strange around here lately that I've barely had time to go and read, or make any new friends. It's better late than never, though, I think.

And, um. Has anyone seen Spike? I think he might have... Let me know.

We will be. All war comes to an end, it has to.

Have you seen much of war, before you came here?

Yes, I fought in one. It ended - this one will too.

I am still fighting in one. So I have less confidence than you.

I believe you can do it. I'm sure of it.

But hope is the most powerful weapon you can have. I'd like to think that you're more than capable - I want to believe.

And I have found that hope has little place in war. We are foolish to rely on it.

I will never understand you types who wish to hold hope for others. Especially those you do not know.

My experience is that you don't have to understand it, you just have to deal with it.

I suppose I don't have much of a choice, do I?

How have you been, here? I mean - you sound as though you've been here a while.

Over a year, in my estimation.

A lot longer than me, then. Six months - I feel like it's been forever, though.

I suppose it does. I am happy here, so I feel there could never be enough time.
