Okay, time to lighten the mood.

[Because after all this shit that's happened, she needs to smile. She needs something, anything, to take her mind off all of this and for a second, remember that being alive is good, and right.

And maybe to remember a simpler time.]

I've got this book of puns, right? Well, back in the day, it kinda used to be my thing. And I figure you guys could use this. Or groan, whatever.

Here goes.

A clown held the door open for me the other day.
I thought it was a nice jester.

The butcher backed up into the meat grinder.
He got a little behind in his work.

Yesterday I accidentally swallowed some food coloring.
The doctor says I'm okay, but I feel like I've dyed a little inside.

Pffft.

The man who survived mustard gas and pepper spray is now a seasoned veteran.

[That one actually makes her laugh out loud.]

Tis only bad memories. [ Maglor huffs a sigh and puts the memories back in their boxes ] You would think I would be able to manage by now, but perhaps Alfhiem is too close, still. But they are an integral part of our tales, and if you want to hear about them I can tell them. A poor bard I would be if I could not, eh? And I have had closer experiences with dragons than most.

It was sometimes. And sometimes it was terrible indeed. Still, a wiser man than I once said that the best stories - the ones that meant something - were those which were not always easy to hear, or presumably, to live through.

If you wanna tell me. I'm always up for listening to stories, especially if it's real stuff.

[Stories were the lifeblood of the QZ. It was how they learned about the world outside, the way things used to be before all those unwanted or orphaned kids were born. But hell, Ellie tends to keep that part out of it.]

Truly, I do not mind, Ellie. It was only the shock of having them mentioned I think, and my memories have been uneasy since Alfhiem. [ a little too close to memory for comfort, and after Ginnungagap the nightmares started up again ]

He does indeed. His father named him 'Samwise' - in Sindarin, Perhael or 'Half-wise' - but it has been later said that he was one of the wisest of all.

He is a gardener. Many would say, the best gardener on this side of the Sundering Seas. And he is a hero - probably the greatest of the Age, although his own people esteem him not, and he would never accept such a title himself.

A... gardener?

[It makes her think of her own powers, what might be related.]

Aye. He was the gardener for Lord Iorhael - who he would say was the true hero - one Frodo Baggins, a hobbit of the Shire.

They are a branch of Men, or so the loremasters tell us - but shorter - about, mm, half my height? They are, for the most part, a fairly reclusive people, prefering to avoid the affairs of the 'Big People'. They sound a little bit like Dwarves, but without the metalwork and stuff.

Do not let Masters Fili and Kili hear that! Aye, I have - the young princelings are from my own world, if not my time. Hobbits are very unlike dwarves, as both peoples would insist - although they share in common a love for good food and drink, as well as a singularly odd fondness for pipeweed.

[It makes her laugh too.]

Shit, they didn't tell me they were Princes. The stuff people leave out.

They are younger sons of the line, I think - I confess to not being certain.

So you guys do or don't know each other?

I knew of them, and their kin, but not personally. [ he shrugs wryly ]

We worked out that I come from a time after theirs - so their tale is known to me.

Crazy.

I mean, to meet someone who came out of a story. And to find out your life became one.

[ he laughs, a soft bubble of sound ]

Oh, ercasse, tis not an unusual thing in my world where the heroes and villains of long ago walk amongst us still. Although I will admit that it is unusual for me to meet one of those from my tales rather than the reverse.
