I've got this book of puns, right? Well, back in the day, it kinda used to be my thing. And I figure you guys could use this. Or groan, whatever.

Here goes.

A clown held the door open for me the other day.
I thought it was a nice jester.

The butcher backed up into the meat grinder.
He got a little behind in his work.

Yesterday I accidentally swallowed some food coloring.
The doctor says I'm okay, but I feel like I've dyed a little inside.

Pffft.

The man who survived mustard gas and pepper spray is now a seasoned veteran.

They are a branch of Men, or so the loremasters tell us - but shorter - about, mm, half my height? They are, for the most part, a fairly reclusive people, prefering to avoid the affairs of the 'Big People'. And so they passed mostly unnoticed until a few of them saved all the lands from a second darkness.

Do not let Masters Fili and Kili hear that! Aye, I have - the young princelings are from my own world, if not my time. Hobbits are very unlike dwarves, as both peoples would insist - although they share in common a love for good food and drink, as well as a singularly odd fondness for pipeweed.

We worked out that I come from a time after theirs - so their tale is known to me.

Oh, ercasse, tis not an unusual thing in my world where the heroes and villains of long ago walk amongst us still. Although I will admit that it is unusual for me to meet one of those from my tales rather than the reverse.

Ah well, I am not sure, for I was born before the rising of the Moon and Sun [ yes, in that order ] but... perhaps some nine thousand years or so.

Give or take a few centuries, yes, I believe so.

[ this is truly one of the greatest joys of Asgard as far as Maglor is concerned - so few here know of the Eldar, so he gets to watch this reaction over, and over... ]

Dude, I can barely imagine living long enough to die of natural causes, let alone living that long.

Ah well but we are born to different kindreds, you and I. The Eldar are made to last as long as our world does, and it has been said before that we do not always perceive time as our younger kindred do. To Men, they say is given the urge to seek beyond the confines of our world and fate, and though they burn faster their light is no less great.

Oh, all die, eventually - it is only that my time is slow in coming, unless I am slain. But I have known Men as well, if that is what you mean. My people are Eldar, what humans have always called Elves, yet we share the earth with our younger kindred - men and dwarves and hobbits - and they are all mortal.

So, when you live forever, do you figure everything out?

I would not say 'everything' but I do hope I have learnt from the mistakes of my past. [ wryly he adds ] Some would say that being immortal merely gives one more time to make mistakes with.
