Since there is no established judicial system in this world, punishment was exacted by the people that captured him. In this case, killing the perpetrator was the most efficient method for ensuring the safety of the general public. He was a repeat offender, and refused to relent.

Why do so many of you oppose this decision?

I think at first people thought that imprisonment would be enough of a punishment, especially since we could possibly get information from him.

But after his escape, I don't know. I think he clearly needed to be killed after harming so many people, and I think we got as much information from him as we could.

I guess some people just value individual lives as ultimately sacred.

Interrogation is crucial when prisoners are in custody. But considering his transgressions afterward, he clearly outlived his utility.

If those people enter the battlefield with that same mindset, then they will die.

A lot of them come from worlds where they try to obey their laws, punish them by their laws, and live 'humanely.' It's usually kind of fake, since they break their own rules a lot when it doesn't suit them. But, they do try to be what they think is civilized.

But... that's the thing. The courts haven't reformed yet. Attempts at government have faltered. And, when they deal with ... well, ... [She sounded nervous and out of sorts now. Given that she could go completely insane about once every few months, and had definitely killed people before, but been spared a trial for mental instabilities, people jsut trying to help lock her up, it was probably understandable that this was hitting home.]

They don't know how to treat him differently without feeling hypocritical. They don't realize you can't avoid a little hypocrisy sometimes.

Their methods were humane. [At least, from his perspective.] The prisoner was granted mercy, at the beginning. He proved himself undeserving of it, and he was punished accordingly.

His death prevents him from infecting even more individuals with poison. This concept should not be a difficult one to understand. Or are they willing to sacrifice their own safety for this dangerous individual?

As many have so eloquently explained beforehand, it would seem as thought many believe in second chances and that human life is precious. There were many in the previous discussion whom were quite vocal over the matter of not offering death to the spy.

[But, then again...]

I believe they were quite vocal due to the fact that many who wished for death to be the perfect sentence for the spy did not use the proper tact within their words. They expressed their thoughts in a audacious fashion. [In other words, if everyone would have been tactful and respectful over the matter, then they would not be in the current situation they are now in. A compromise could have been found if everyone would have allowed the chance for it.]

I see. [Brief pause.] The concept of preserving life is one that most people have firm stances on. Do you truly believe they could have been persuaded otherwise?

There are those who truly believe that no matter how many times a person sins, they still hold the chance for redemption. They choose to turn a blind eye to the trail of blood following the perpetrator.

[Gaara may be unable to see it, but there is the barest hint of a twisted smile on Eyes' face. So ironic.] Others may simply not wish to share the same guilt as the person buy supporting the decision.

Those individuals can choose to maintain that perspective. However, if one perpetrator’s existence becomes a threat to the rest of the population, then they will need to determine whether or not they are willing to risk the safety and lives of others.

Indecision is also a choice. Either way, they will not be able to escape from making a decision.

I think everyone deserves a second chance. People are good in their hearts, always. The path he ended up on wasn't entirely his fault, Thiazi tricked him, and I hoped that maybe he could change.

He did rather blow his second chance. Which is just sad.
