Oh, right, this thing! So, this is a holographic telecommunications device, complete with camera, phone, and text messaging. Crafty little thing, though, looks like it has an automatic turn-on feature. For what, I don't know. Maybe it's like a candid automatic! Catches you doing embarrassing things, that's fab. You could record something and post it on Youtube, get a laugh out of--

Well, there isn't any Youtube here, is there? Which is really a shame. All those cat videos just out of reach. I suppose you could start a separate network to just share silly camera videos. Could you do that? Could we do that? Doesn't seem to be any rules to using this thing, does there? Let's see...

Hello! [ he waves, grinning brightly. ] You know, it's a bit rude to eavesdrop. Then again, it's not your fault. Automatic turn-on feature, like I said. If you managed to hear that, earlier. Now, let's see! Who all is here, hmm? Could we have a roll call?

If that's possible. There is a commenting feature on this, isn't there? ... yes, there is. Thought so.

Yeah, that's right. The ones who are around us most have already gained some colour. Before, they barely spoke and were completely grey. Actually, this whole city was completely grey when we first got here.

[He tilts his head curiously.] What house have you been placed in?

Then we're well on our way to keeping this place colorful.

Me? Odin. [ he cracks a grin at that. ]

Let's hope so. [As much as he's grown to like this place...] I think a lot of us need to get back home. Or just want to. Sigyn did say time works strangely here.

[He cracks a smile, too.] In case that didn't give me away, I'm in Sigyn's house, but that doesn't mean we can't still be friends. I know several people in Odin's house, too. The others only have one name to choose from, though. [Grin.] Which one do you prefer?

Time works strangely. Time... working strangely--well! That's certainly true on my part, never am one to take the slow road, but it working differently for other people--that's certainly a new one.

Just 'the Doctor' is fine with me! And you?

Apparently, time stops back in our worlds when we're here, so we don't have to worry about...things happening while we're gone. It sounds pretty incredible, but I think it's true. A friend of mine is from about two years in my past, and I'm two years in her future.

All right, "Doctor" it is. I'm Merlin.

Hmmm. Interesting. [ that's his viewpoint. ]

Merlin! ... Merlin. Merlin--I know I've heard that name somewhere before.

I'll remember later.

[Merlin has an inkling he knows where the Doctor's heard his name--can't talk to certain magic folk here without learning that he's apparently famous--but if the Doctor doesn't remember, he's not going to volunteer the information.]

Well, you heard it just now. [Grinning.]

Really, you think so? [Not even bothering to hold back a laugh.] Being called "clever"--now that's a change.

What're you usually called?

Let's see..."idiot" is the usual one. "Girl" is the other common one. Oh, and there's "mentally afflicted" but I haven't heard that one in a while.

[Sigh.] I bet Arthur's got loads more charming things to call me. [Conveniently leaving out that he calls Arthur names right back, but hey, who needs to know?]

Oh, you're none of that. Definitely not a girl.

[ oh, Merlin. ] Arthur?

Well, sometimes I'm just a girl's petticoat.

[He cracks a smile, looking not at all concerned by the insults.] Yeah, Arthur. He's a friend of mine from home. Though he'd never admit it. Princes can't be friends with servants and all.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, no ranks here! If he appears, you both will be quite free to be friends.

It's...nice, the lack of ranks. Sort of like everyone starts over.

[Sigh.] He hasn't shown up yet, and I really don't think he'd like the place as much as I do.

A bit, yeah.

Sort of the type to get stuck on ranks. [Unfortunately. He's gotten better, though! Merlin has been working on him :( ]

And well...the bit about having abilities would probably not go over well either.

Oh. [ he frowns. ] This could be good for him, though.

Not one to take it lightly, is he? The abilities bit.

Well...no. It's something else.

[Uncomfortable squirming.] Magic's banned in our kingdom. Arthur wouldn't take having some sort of "magic" very well.

Would he take having some sort of "science" well? Because you could argue that it really is just that. Science. At its finest.

Science? He's fine with that. [He frowns, crossing his arms.] How could magic be considered science? Science is...all the stuff with the tonics and plants, for medicine, isn't it?

At your time, possibly. It develops into something more fine-tuned along the road, just like magic. Magic and science are rather close cousins.

Gaius would be glad to hear that. [Despite his worry, Merlin still smiles at the thought of his father figure.]

And, well. Even if science is like magic in the future, it's not like that for us. [He sighs.] I suppose I'll just have to deal with it if he ever does show up.

I'd be glad to help you both any way I can. New world, new planet--can be jarring for some people.
