( the video begins with doctor mccoy, sitting at a desk in his room in sigyn. he looks particularly business-like, hair combed and expression serious, hands folded in front of him. before he speaks, he clears his throat—it’s almost as if he’s still a little uncomfortable to be addressing so many people at once, but that’s the only sign of it. )

Figure it’s best to get this out of the way while we’ve got the time. ( before another disaster or attack happens, he means. ) I like having a frame of reference—makes it easier to deal with people, and treat ‘em too, when you have to. I know we’re all working off the same magical system, here, but it’s better to account for specifics all the same.

That being said, here’s a list. Fill it out if you want, don’t bother telling me why not if you don’t want to. You can be as specific, or as vague, as you want, or leave out questions entirely if they bother you. At the mall? Depends on how weird you consider teenage Vulcans.

I would have to ask what a Vulcan was first.

They're an alien species. Native to a desert planet, they have strength superior to humans and are touch telepaths. Most of them have sticks up their-- I mean, they're a little stiff.

Minus the aliens and telepathy that could describe some people in the mall. [ Or Derek Hale. Strong. Stiff. Or prickly, but who knows ] What about anything like magic?

Nothing like it-- nothing completely inexplicable. Things that go beyond human ability, like Vulcan telepathy, are grounded in their physiology. We know exactly how it happens.

Was there ever anything in your history about it that it could have died out or did it never exist?

Maybe? I wouldn't be able to tell you for certain. But anyone's history has got its share of mysteries.

What do you think of magic? Not what's here but what other people say they have at home.

I guess I've got to take their word for it. They know more about their worlds than I do.

But I'd like to think that, at the root of it, even kinds of magic have some kinda system. Rules, or laws.

It would make it all easier to follow, and give people levels. Like getting stronger.

Otherwise you could just do whatever you wanted. There are consequences to actions that are non-magical.

You could call it karma. Or metaphysics. Whatever it is, it helps us mere mortals not make complete fools of ourselves when faced with new situations.

And it's certainly welcome regardless of how it comes about or how unexpected it is, like this. I'm glad that the power malfunction was only temporary.
