NPC POST - VIDEO

Before you start complaining, [ said with a Look, because he knows some of you probably already have ], let me set things straight.

This is not a punishment. I've been content to let you guys roam about and track mud through my house like misbehaving toddlers since Day One, and I'd be content to continue doing so until our business is done here. But isn't, and we don't have time to dick around anymore.

Thiazi's attack wasn't random. It was desperate and sloppy, which means one thing: she knows we're coming for her.

[ He wants to be viciously pleased with the idea of her panicking, but he is nothing close to amused right now. ]

The only way she could know that is if someone on the inside told her. We don't know who, and we don't know how, but we can't afford that kind of liability. These laws are in place to protect you. We can't fight a war on both sides of the wall.

Be vigilant. Look after each other. It's going to be down to you to keep each other safe.

[ A pause, a blink. The ever eternal silent sigh. ]

You have questions. Ask.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the official kickoff for the new martial law! Ask your IC questions here, and let us know if you want any god in specific, as they'll be hanging around this post. The log for weapons registration, rationing, and Red Scare flavoured shenanigans is over here. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

What exactly would a traitor have to do to be able to evade your notice in communicating with the enemy? I thought you had a thought-read on everyone here.

Are you implying that we read your minds?

Uh, don't you? You're gods. I would. One of you hands out psychic powers like they're fucking tictacs.

[ Oh, it's good that this is voice. He's wincing here. ]

There are a lot of things that we could do, but - we don't pry into your thoughts, we don't remove your free will. That's - there are limits.

Okay, apparently I'm being facetious when I shouldn't be.

I was seriously under the impression that telepathy was a thing around here. I'm not talking about free will, I'm talking about Loki's people- I think it was Loki, right? Romping around able to touch thoughts.

If I'm wrong, please correct me, but that seems like a sort of- baseline level of psychic invasion that we live with on the day to day in this city.

No, no, I understand what you meant, I simply - I wanted to make sure you didn't think that we had a -

[ Freyr is a god. He may be comparatively young, but he is powerful. Clever. And, yet, he still trips himself up when over-explaining things to Travelers in fear of having offended any of them further. ]

We don't have all of your thoughts on tap in a direct line, from us to you. Some of the people who Loki bring do have telepathy, but that doesn't grant them access to everyone's thoughts all the time. Or even most people's thoughts, some of the time. It works differently than that.

The mechanics are very different in my world, apparently.

It's not feasible here, to use their powers to try to identify the traitor?

It's not. And it would be-- very, very invasive, without knowing with one hundred percent certainty that we found who we were looking for.

Fair enough. I'll keep thinking. If I come up with something good maybe a telepath can pass it along to you.

Yes, because that's exactly what I was suggesting, clearly.

[Christ, he's sticking with Freyr.]

The image I had in my head was more of a 'rolling wire tap' situation, if you must know.

But I wasn't just thinking about telepathy. I mean, theoretically this person would have had to leave the city to go see this woman- so would the bracelets notify you guys if one of us just... booked it? If they do then that means they went through an intermediary or like, found the equivalent of a magical or literal carrier pigeon. I don't know what kind of monitoring you've got on this place or if anything like that would show up.

Can you explain how we know it's a traveler not a local? For those of us still catching up.

Oh, okay, valid, I misunderstood that. Thanks.
