[She's got this thing figured out. Well, except for the video. But, hey audio works. She taps at it experimentally.]

Hopefully, this is transmitting.

[And then, carefully, she clears her throat.]

I have no idea what I was expecting when I walked out those door when I arrived, but it certainly wasn't running for my life.

[Margaret pauses thoughtfully, just long enough to where there's silence on the line.]  

All I want right now is a very stiff drink. I assume someone has recommendations.

Yeah, that would help. Considering the Korean War's been over for about 50 years for me.

Fifty years? [It's her turn to be silent. That would put her in her eighties at the least. It's not like she ought to be too surprised. Not everyone she'd seen fit the 1950s, after all, but still. It was a little shocking.]

That is more than a small gap to fill.

[Tony laughs softly.]

Well, if you want to know anything about the future, I'm your man. Well, about one specific future--there seem to be an infinite number of parallel Earths. The math is fascinating.

I can imagine. [Her voice is a drawl and she shakes her head.] The best I can do is just go with everything and try not to be too bewildered. It hardly seems like it should be possible at all, but I can't argue with it seeing as--

[Margaret frowns. She can't refute it.]

Well, I guess there's an awful lot of proof in favor for me to sit here and shake my head at it.

[Tony laughs wryly, giving a nod.]

That's a far healthier idea than the denial most people wallow in for a few weeks. Have a drink or two today, complain about the things you'll miss from your world, and then start accepting that this place is real.


It's not going anywhere, after all. And you probably aren't either.
