[Alice is beaming proudly as she looks at the bracelet. The more observant will notice a slight scratch on her cheek and nose. Nonetheless, she looks very pleased with herself.]

It took me all day but I did it! I did it I did it! [She's bouncing.]

I made myself a pet! Oh but not any sort of pet! No no, I made Marigold!

Would you all like to meet him? I thought it would be a much nicer topic than the gloomy sorts people have been commenting on. [Because dead people? No, thank you. She has had enough of all of that.]

Oh! Doctor! [Alice smiles brightly and waves before she calls for Marigold. The fire dragon greets the Doctor with a soft "skaw!" and a nod of his head.]

Doctor, meet Marigold!

Hello, Marigold! I'm going to have to say hello properly later.

You could say hello properly now! Marigold needs to meet all of you so that he knows you're nice. [The dragon clicked his beak.] Hmm, Marigold is a proper gentleman though. Won't attack anyone unless they're attacking me.

Bit busy at the moment, give me a couple of hours.

[ He points a finger. ]

Glad to know he doesn't attack people.

Busy? What are you doing?

I would never make anything that would hurt people.

I do have a job.

One thing I never expected to hear myself say.

Oh. [She didn't know, honestly. She can't picture the Doctor, especially her Doctor, having a job. Apparently, neither did the Doctor. But she shouldn't be surprised, she supposed. ]

Where do you work?

[ They do need to live somehow. ]

Do you know the bookstore in the Loki district? It's not far from the hospital.

Oh yes! I know it! Is that where you work then? Should I join you? I could be a very good book keeper! I could tend to the poetry section and children's section!

[ That's a little unexpected. ]

If you really want to, I'm not going to stop you.

Whatever is wrong? [She didn't have anything else to do during the day except lessons ~~which Alice would soon learn would come to an end.~~] And we can spend the days together!

Nothing is wrong! I just didn't expect you to offer.

[ He smiles. ]

Sounds like it could be fun. We could sit around reading books all day.

Well, what did you expect then? [She's rather curious what the Doctor thought she ought to have said.]

Oh! And Marigold can come too? He shan't burn any of the books, and it shall be the only bookshop to have a well-mannered dragon, that is sure to attract people to the store.

Well, I don't know about all day, but I would get to spend it with you, which I find to be more fun.

I'm not sure. Nothing in particular, I suppose.

If you're completely sure he won't burn any, then yes, he can come.

Oh yes, I'm sure. He's not made anything bigger than a little fireball.

Oh dear! We'd not thought to measure! [She puts a hand to her chin in thought while Marigold clicks his beak.] I do wonder how I would figure that out. Would it be like trying to shoot a bow and arrow?

I don't know. I suppose it could be.

Are you saying you've never met a dragon?

Well. I do wonder, sometimes. But I don't see any often.

What about gryphons or a siren or mermaid? Have you seen any of those?

Gryphons-- Well, a gryphon and a siren... sort of. The gryphon was artificially made and the siren was really an alien programmed doctor of a space ship that took the appearance of a siren. Mermaids, though, I have met those.

Goodness! You can travel through all of space and time and you've never met a real one of either? I know there are all sorts of strange aliens but to never get to see mythical creatures seems really... well, I would certainly want to meet all sorts of creatures. Aliens are very nice, certainly, but why not meet a unicorn or a dragon if you've the means to do it! And you've the means, Doctor. Has really no one ever wanted to meet such creatures?

[Alice is stroking her dragon's fur at the thought of how strange all the companions must be, to never want to meet something as majestic as a unicorn. Or maybe they couldn't see it?... well, that thought made Alice blush quite a bit.]

Uh...

[ Yeah, he doesn't want to say he's pretty sure there are definitely some things who just aren't real, at least not in his universe. A parallel one, maybe, and most likely there's some alternate one out there that has them, but... ]

Time and space is really, really big, you know. Guess it just never comes up somehow.

If I were your companion I would wish to see those... well, and Queen Elizabeth.
