what happens to the versions of us that exist here when we go home?
the memories and feelings and friendships that weve made
it kind of sucks thinking that we are going to lose them
the longer im here, the more it kind of feels like dying

I'm not complaining to the gods. I'm just saying... if there's a way to bring us here with our memories, there has to be a way to get us home with them, too. It can't be a one-way street. This isn't the first time I've universe hopped, alright?

Well now, but I guess his is your first time being universe-kidnapped. Did you forget the fact that we lost all our powers because if we had the, we would quite literally explode? This whole deal isn't as easy as it looks, and I'm not going to go and mess into such things if I like living.

[ She has no idea why she's so rankled by his attitude, but she's become pretty visibly frustrated. ]

I'm used to things not being as easy as they look. I'm okay with that. I'm just not okay with accepting things as impossible and then moving on without a fight.

And what's the problem with that? Sometimes it's best to let hings exist as they are if it means you live another day comfortably with all the memories and such you had yesterday.

That's the exact thing that bothers me! I don't know if I'll get to live another day comfortably with my memories!

So? People live every day back home and in plenty of other places, not knowing if they're going to live or die another day, and here all you are complaining about are memories.

[ Her ears actually pin back. ]

I'm ending this conversation now.

I'm just saying, count your blessings. And I'm guaranteeing you, you'll ind nothing but the same answer everywhere else. Unless someone goes and invents a memory storage system to take with you when you go home, then you're out of luck.

See, that's fine, I'll just invent one of those!

Tell me when you do. It might actually be the only thing worth something in this place.

Everything we do is worth something. No matter how much of a dismissive jerk you want to be, it doesn't change things.

I never said that me being a dismissive jerk changes anything. In fact, I know it won't change anything at all, due to the fact that I had an argument with a thick-skulled god a while ago that pretty much convinced me that we're getting nothing out of them.

If you want to do something, you have to do it on your own.

And you apparently have to be a jerk to people you only sorta know in the process.

Don't take it personally. I'm like that to everyone. You obviously don't know me that well.

I'm not taking it personally! But that still doesn't mean I have to like it.

And yet what has that ever done for me? I expect to be treated a certain way, what do I get by letting people trample all over me?

I am often nice without letting people trample over me. The two aren't the same thing.

Back home, they were.

A colleague of mine back home actually got killed because he was too nice for his own good.

So, don't mind if I say "no thank you" to that.

I'm not saying you have to be "too nice for your own good." But being a jerk all the time is just gonna bite you in the ass.

I'm perfectly well prepared for when it does, but so far, nobody's got the courage to go against me in any other way than angrily shouting back at me.

So, really, I'm not going to become a saint just because you say so.
