I... I don't understand...

[The small, slender Japanese girl with the high ponytail and downtilted eyes might be familiar to some. She's standing in front of Heimdall House with a newcomer's letter in her hands, dressed in the same uniform as the first time she arrived, but it doesn't quite fit right anymore - she's gotten taller since she made it, started to fill out a little. At least in Asgard, which proves that she hasn't been completely reset.

The confusion on her face starts to contort into alarm as her words confirm that truth.]

Isn't - it over? I remember Freyr - when he - wasn't that the end? But now it's like none of it ever happened... the letter, and the maid, and everything looks just like the first time...

[And now edging into panic as she leans against one of the house's walls, wrapping her arms around her middle and shivering.]

What's going on?!

[There's a hint of relief in her smile; she'd really like to see the other girl in person.]

It's up to you. I'd be happy to come to Heimdall if that would be easier, but-- now that I think about it, it's the time of year for hot chocolate again, isn't it?

[She laughs, a warm and touched sound. So she still remembers that first meeting. Everything just keeps coming full circle; it's a strange feeling, but not totally unwelcome.]

You can't give me a gift and buy me hot chocolate, though. There should be some in the house, I can make it for us.

[She still remembers a lot of things. (At least this time around said circle they've both had more time to settle into this sort of life.)]

I can't? [There's a laugh of her own; it's only half a serious question.] Well, okay. If you'd rather do that, that sounds nice.

I'll wait inside, okay? It's getting a bit cold, and if they still give us clothes, I'd like to change out of this. It... doesn't really fit anymore.

[She tugs at one of the sleeves.]

It's weird, I didn't even really notice I was still growing until now. I think I'm almost fifteen.

Of course. I don't want you to freeze out there. [She's been in a similar position before, after all--]

[Naminé looks thoughtful a moment, studying said clothes. (What does it really mean that they're still growing, especially that Nakama is? Would it make any difference with the timeline shenanigans--?) She also can't help but think of some things they've discussed before, so,] Are you happy about it?

[She moves into the Welcome Hall, taking a moment before answering because she's once again awash with nostalgia - she remembers this room packed to the rafters with people, scared and confused and, yes, some angry, but surprisingly calm. She remembers all of the people who showed her kindness. She remembers the pensive, strangely handsome face of Heimdall himself, watching over them as they arrived.]

I, um... I guess, after that one curse, I know it's not so bad to be getting older. [Her smile is a bit wry.] But I just wish my mom could see it.

[Naminé is on the move herself, everything she needs gathered up and held carefully as she makes her way through her own Welcome Hall and out into the cold air. This time of year brings a bit of nostalgia her way, too - not because she's been away from the city but because she's been in it for so long; things really have come full circle, and she remembers vividly her first few experiences in Asgard with the backdrop of cold and snow. Things were grayer then.]

Mm. [She cannot say she has ever had a parent to miss, nor that she was inclined to think much of what it might be like to have one, so she can't help feeling ill-equipped for such a discussion, but--... even she has some idea of what it must be like to be separated from one's family, if only because of the memories she's seen and the people she's missed herself.] ... I'm sorry.

No, it's okay. [She lifts her head a bit, obviously trying to look strong, and it seems to work as her voice grows steadier and calmer.] A couple of people have told me that my mom - she knows I'm okay, whatever's going on with her, and she's happy for me. I just have to believe it and it'll be true. I'm not really good with belief, but... this is important enough that I can do it.

[Naminé studies the other girl a moment, until she has to look away to make certain she's not about to trip or some such thing. Then,]

If that's the case, then... good luck. Maybe she does, in her heart. What is it that they say? A mother knows?

Thank you. [She smiles gently.] I don't ever remember... seeing or experiencing anything when I've been dead, but - maybe there'll be another place where we can meet again, too. As long as I'm believing, I might as well go the whole way.

[It's not the best joke, but she's trying.]

... Mm. [It's not really conclusive proof of anything, she thinks, but at least that also means it's not proof of anything terrible, either.]

I'd like to believe, too. [She's much better at hoping, but--]
