I’ve been hearing a bit lately about how people don’t want to fight in the war because it’s not ours to fight and not only do I understand that, but I don’t blame anyone for feeling that way. But as long as we’re here, isn’t it better to fight than to stand aside and watch this place fall down around us? [ Fighting may not usually be his thing, but circumstances being what they are… ] As long as we’re here, and as long as it threatens us and our loved ones, doesn’t that make it our fight too? We just have to stop thinking of it as fighting for them, and think of it as protecting ourselves and each other.

You're right. That's why we're fighting instead of sitting things out, but I still think there are people that should fight, and others that shouldn't.
[You sir should not fight.]

Still, this does not make it any easier. ]
... Well said, Peeta. You've a wise mind about you.

This war is not ours to fight, as you said. Who are these gods that we should fight for them? But there are others here who cannot fight for themselves, and that is reason enough. [It's really no different from what he was doing back at home.]

All in all, the gods are selfish and the reasons you stated are also rather selfish. Does "loved ones" include everyone or merely your friends?

Katniss said she doesn't want me to fight. But if everyone's going, I want to go, too, Peeta.
[What if you all leave and don't come back?]
