[Day 163] [Text / Action ]
Forensic Unit | Now Recruiting.
Founded Day 39, the Forensic Unit started out as a sub-section of the hospital laboratory, its members focused on using their experience in the art of observation and detection to investigate suspicious deaths and accidents occurring within the city as well as use their experience and knowledge to learn more about the city as a whole. As our members increased and our scope expanded, the Forensic Unit has expanded to become a hospital department in its own right. With Ragnarok on the very near horizon, the Forensics Unit is looking to put our collective experience in research and planning to even better use. To that end we're looking for new recruits.
If you:
Want to be involved in the war effort but don't fit the traditional role of a solider;
Have been involved in volunteer activities in the past or have experience organising people;
Are genuinely curious about this world we're in;
Enjoy research;
Are creative, flexible and reliable;
Then you might be what we are looking for.
If this interests you, please fill out the form below. Your honesty is appreciated but if you'd rather that the information you choose to share is not readily viewable to all on the network, feel free to use the private filter. Rest assured that your personal information will not be shared.
Yours,
Edogawa Conan.
[Private text | Directed at Arthur, Beckett, Castle, Merlin and Nakama.]
There's something I'd like to talk to you about in person. I've got a table at a cafe in Baldr. Hit the link for directions.
Conan.
[attachment: link to classy little coffee house in Baldr.]
[Action - directed at Arthur, Beckett, Castle, Merlin & Nakama but Open!]
He mattered. The Heisei Holmes was back in the house. Being himself -- more importantly, being himself with the people that had come to mean so much to him in Asgard ... that was more than worth the inconvenience of hanging around the children's ward in the hospital until he'd picked up the bug that sufficiently weakened his immune system for the temporary cure to take effect. Even then, it wouldn't last more than a day at most ...
Some of his happiness fading, Shinichi picked up his coffee cup, turning to watch the pedestrian traffic through the window. He'd rehearsed this enough in his head, argued the pros, the cons, the risks forwards, backwards, sideways --
It was done now. All that remained was to wait.]
[action]
Of course he still looks 7, but the more he thinks about it, there's just no way. And even if he is 7, there's got to be some sort of magic at play here because there's no way a 7 year-old could possibly have Conan's cognitive ability. When he first met Conan, he chocked it up to the kid being a child prodigy, but since using telepathy on him when they were practicing their powers, he's been suspicious.
Thus, the sight that greets him at the coffee house is not entirely surprising, though it's still incredibly unexpected.
"Oh... my God."
[action]
Seeing the man's startled reaction as the pieces of the case snapped together was as reassuring as it was terrifying -- Shinichi still wasn't used to revealing his identity by choice. Not that he was going to let that show. Instead the teenager smirked, pushing out a chair for Castle to join him.]
No matter what I look like, I think the same, right? Didn't think it'd take you long to work it out, Castle-san, but you really surprised me.

Hurrying over to his table, she sits down and leans across the table with a concerned expression. Is this safe? How did it happen? She's full of questions, but all that comes out is:]
What - ?

Temporary cure. You know that post you made about things from home showing up? Found them soon after. Not sure if it's related to that or a conversation I had with Hel. Either way, I have 11 of them left. They're effective for about 12 hours although my immune system has to be weakened first for them to work and they're less effective each time I use them.

Nonetheless, it's actually just chance that she sees the half-strange, half-familiar and definitely significantly older traveler leave one of Conan's haunts just as she was going to find him. He can't be much older than she is, and he looks terribly pleased with himself. That part is enough to make her just follow, to hang back at the cafe's entrance and watch him through the window, until the network post pinging on her bracelet makes very likely that yes, that's Conan. Or Shinichi, she supposes.
Either way, is it really her place to interrupt? Probably not. Watching would do, for now.]

In the quiet lull between visitors, he glances around, trying to put his finger on what exactly it is that is giving him this feeling of something being off--]

He made it sound urgent, did he not? And the brat's not even here yet.
[ He is not being petulant, okay, it's just. He could be home bathing right now, you suck. ]

The worry triples when he spots a familiar face--Kaito. What could the magician be doing in the cafe? A coincidence or...? Merlin glances at the text again, noting the names that had been included in the filter, and the absence of Kaito's name. Come to think of it, Kaito had been extremely suspicious when he and Conan were together last time, just before the Darkness hit Asgard hard. There had been a few times Merlin could have almost sworn Kaito knew something...
He's just about to shoot Conan a warning text when he pauses, the niggling feeling of Not Quite Right making him take a closer look. That's when he notices the differences, subtle but there. Kaito's hair is much fluffier for one, and the arrogant sort of spark that usually accompanies the magician is absent. A thought--a really, really improbable thought--grows in his mind.
Merlin, trusting Arthur will probably follow him, comes to a stop in front of the table. It's a huge leap of logic, but somehow he's sure. His eyes dart to Arthur. He'd been included in the filter. If he's right, then that means he's meant to know, too. ]

may I? I miss tagging Conan (or Shinichi today!), but feel free to ignore if it's not okay!
Today, he appears a little more perky than he has been, though there's a sort of dutiful resignation written all over him as he adjusts the headband meant to obscure his abnormal ears. He orders a fruity coffee cake and a hot chocolate, content enough with these simple, innocent comforts. But when he goes to take a seat by himself, the dark-haired boy waiting nearby strikes him. Those eyes. That characteristic little tuft of hair that always seemed to poof out at the top...
Maybe he can get this boy to speak to him? That could tell him more, but not yet. First he busies himself with adding ridiculous flavors to an already pretty exciting hot chocolate, only peering over... occasionally.]
Of course!
Fortunately it seemed Karuika was more preoccupied with his hot chocolate. Perfect. Shinichi could finish his own coffee, pay and leave, done with all the meetings he'd had that day. He'd have to find a new place to loiter until the cure wore off but Asgard held plenty of options for the detective who didn't want to be discovered.]
((ooc: Totally okay! But if possible, I'd like if Karuika doesn't put the pieces together just yet? 4 people have found out Conan's secret identity this post, so I'd like to stagger it a bit.))

Interest: I haven't been in Asgard for very long and have been looking for a place to focus my efforts. This opportunity seems to align closely with my skill set.
Questions/Concerns: None, although I would like to meet you and see your facilities at some time.

I'm not available to show you the Unit today, but if you're free tomorrow we can set up an appointment then.

Also, apologies if this is a weird question, but you don't remember being here before do you?

Power: Damage Drain
Experience: At home, I was studying law to become an attorney specializing in criminal law. In Asgard, I've been volunteering at the Hospital, and I've recently become a member of the Teacher's Council. I'm also trained in aikido and would be happy to give self-defense lessons.
Interest: I believe strongly in establishing a justice system in Asgard. I'd like to help in any way I can. [ Especially with Yuri's departure, she feels even more dedicated to this cause, to honor his memory. ]

Power: Fire magic
Experience: Back at home, I did a couple of internships at the local precinct sorting through things that weren't really evidence but were still someone's belongings. I also shadowed a medical examiner on some of her cases.
Interest: I can't fight like most people, but I still want to help out somehow. I know I've just done a couple of internships, but I'm a quick learner, if that helps at all.
Questions/Concerns: None.
