Forensic Unit | Now Recruiting.

Founded Day 39, the Forensic Unit started out as a sub-section of the hospital laboratory, its members focused on using their experience in the art of observation and detection to investigate suspicious deaths and accidents occurring within the city as well as use their experience and knowledge to learn more about the city as a whole. As our members increased and our scope expanded, the Forensic Unit has expanded to become a hospital department in its own right. With Ragnarok on the very near horizon, the Forensics Unit is looking to put our collective experience in research and planning to even better use. To that end we're looking for new recruits.

If you:
Want to be involved in the war effort but don't fit the traditional role of a solider;
Have been involved in volunteer activities in the past or have experience organising people;
Are genuinely curious about this world we're in;
Enjoy research;
Are creative, flexible and reliable;
Then you might be what we are looking for.

[She blinks, then gives a slow nod. It's not that she forgets that he's smart so much as that it's still surprising how smart he can be. It's something she respects.]

Mm. Thinking of my shadow as an extension of myself...it's not so difficult. And it's the only thing that can change, now.

I can see how that knowledge would related well for you ... but I wonder what someone without that experience would find it?

[The only thing ... ? Used to thinking of magic as more of a nuisance than anything else, it's only belatedly that nuance registers and Shinichi blinks at Sophie.]

[All the time. Shinichi opens his mouth to reply then realises he doesn't need to. ] ... point taken.

[Though that raises another interesting line of enquiry. How different would changing at will be from the transformation he goes through?]

What's it like? When you do it.

It's...very easy. But it's...a bit like having a whole other set of muscles, just in my mind. I think that I want to be a way, and I am. You want to pick up your coffee, and your arm just reaches for it. It's like that. And just like you have to think, just a little, to keep your hand around the cup...it's like that, too.

[Saying that living in Asgard is something like having her entire body be a phantom limb is rather more overdramatic and revealing than she's willing to be, though.]

That's interesting. It's totally different for me -- but then again, it's not at all a natural process. Were you always able to change yourself?

There's probably a bit of difference between changing and wanting to change. I could always do it a bit, but my abilities were enhanced by magic when I was ten years old.

It starts with a sharp pain -- kind of like my heart's contracting and spreads from there. What you described -- sounds a lot more like what using Body Control here is like.

[The description makes her give the smallest wince of sympathy.]

It is body control, in a way, I think. Just my own instead of someone else's.

When you put it like that ... it sounds as though the two powers might be more closely related than they seem at first sight.

Control is control, I suppose. But it's something I had to learn, or...

[She flutters her fingers in a way that suggests things not holding together very well.]

Our abilities here are slightly more optional. But it's a good metaphor.

At any rate, I think you're definitely qualified to teach.

I think the truth of that will be in the doing. We'll see how it goes.

[She takes a careful sip of her coffee.]

Ah -- probably another ten hours or so. It's not exactly ... exact.
