[Someone made a post about Christmas just as she was waking up, and it inspired her. So her face appears, flushed and sweaty but smiling gently, and behind her is Heimdall's kitchen table absolutely loaded with food. It looks like it should be groaning under the weight.]

Hi, everyone, it's Nakama again. Somebody mentioned that it's the holidays, and I wanted to make sure everyone got a gift, so I thought I'd make breakfast. Since there are a lot of people who don't know how to cook or use the appliances, this is a chance to have a nice meal... at least, I hope it's nice... anyway, it doesn't matter what house you're in, you can feel free to come to Heimdall House and have some. I'll be making more to replace what's gone, so please eat your fill.

((ooc: this is a post for everyone who doesn't have much going over the holidays, but has had some tag slowdown because of all the hiatuses, but anyone can tag in at any time of course. [The detective has missed the most important point of the holiday for Nakama - the giving. Nakama likes to give, and a season devoted to it means that she doesn't draw any lines about family or boyfriends or anything. She just wants to give to whoever's available.

Also, it gives her an excuse to foster companionship between the houses, which is one of her ultimate aims - everyone working together, all friends, to solve the problem of Asgard. She didn't succeed with fourteen other people, so why she's willing to take on an entire city is questionable, but that doesn't mean she's giving up.]

Take one of everything, if you want. I can always make more.

You're spoiling us, Nakama-neechan!

[But that's not going to stop Conan taking her advice and taking one of everything.]

[She decides to take a break while people are eating and contented and no one new is coming in, sitting down across from him and staying silent for now. Her face is red and shiny with sweat, but she looks content.]

It's really good, Nakama-neechan! Have you had yours yet?

Oh, thanks. [She blushes deeply, a little smile appearing on her lips.] No, I'll eat when everyone's done. I want to make sure there's enough.

I don't think there'll be a problem with that! 'Sides, it's nicer eating with people, don't you think?

I'm kinda used to eating alone. Mom wasn't up before I left for school, and she was usually working through dinner. We got a few meals together, of course, but mostly it was just me.

You didn't have lunch groups at your Junior High?

[It hadn't been until he'd reached high school and school lunch had no longer breen provided that the division of the classroom into lunch groups had stopped for Conan. But if Nakame had gone to a private school, or was from a different Japan ... ]

I usually eat with Ayumi-chan, Genta-kun, Mitsuhiro-kun and Haibara. Ayumi-chan's shorter than me! She's ... the only kid in our grade who is shorter than me. Mitsuhiko-kun likes science and insects. Genta-kun's really big and bossy. He decides what we do and always goes back for second helpings of rice. He likes Karmen Yaiba and eel rice-bowl. Haibara's kind of quiet but she likes animals.

Oh, I... just didn't really count that.

[Her expression is very dark for a moment. The girls she sat with ignored her, at least, they weren't the worst of her bullies.]

It sounds like you guys got along pretty well.

[Conan's expression is sympathetic. He liked his team mates in the soccer club well enough and he'd enjoyed the banter with his class mates but -- well, apart from Ran, he'd not really had any friends in his own year group ... not until becoming Conan.] The kids at my last school weren't very nice either.

Ah -- no past tense! I'm going to see them again, Nakama-neechan!

[She's surprised that he picked up on so much from a simple frown, and for a moment it makes her uncomfortable. But he's not asking, or prying - just sharing a moment with her. So she offers up a small smile.]

Oh - oh, of course. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.

Ah, don't apologise! It's kind of easy to feel overwhelmed here.

I think of everything in the past tense already. It can happen so quickly...

[Of course, she's dead. But like Kainé said, if she's alive, there's still hope she could return.]

Ah, it's too early for New Year's resolutions yet!

[That's such a cute reaction, and it gets a little giggle out of her.]

Well, at least now I know what mine will be. How about you, do you have one?

I don't know, doesn't it have to be something you can control? If you never get any information, you won't really be able to...

That's true ... I'll have to keep thinking of a good one!

It'll be different here. No shrine, no bells ringing, none of the usual food... did you usually go to a shrine for New Years at home?

Mm! Well, my parent's prefer the Western style Countdown ... but Ran-neechan likes to visit the shrine!

[Usually to pick up love fortunes though ... seriously, girls.]

Mom liked the shrine. Any excuse to get dressed up, she loved it. [Her smile is fond, but her eyes are dark. Nakama hated large gatherings like that, because they could never sneak away without a few cruel words being thrown. But her mom was always happy regardless, so she was happy.]

Ah, mine's the same! It's pretty tiresome.

Oh, I didn't mind. I liked to see her dressed up, too. She was so pretty.

[Still speaking in the past tense, which he's probably noticed.]

[Conan's noticed -- and given the earlier reaction, he's not sure he wants to ask.]

Mine's pretty too -- but vain with it. She has a fit if anyone calls her 'Obachan' ...
