005 - Video (Accidentally not private to Gamzee)

[It's about two hours after Samantha met Gamzee for the first time. She's got a splitting headache and a nasty snarl on her face as she's holding an ice pack to her head. Her original intent in setting this post up is to make this a private post to the troll, but either because of that splitting headache, the fact that she's not 100% sure which is his account or just being in an angry rush, she's not getting the privacy thing quite right. So everyone gets to hear her cuss that looks at the video.]

Hey! Gamzee!

Round one, you dumbass, troglodyte clown. You win round one. The next time you try to wang me over the head, you bloody well swing better than a gimp chimpanzee or you're going to regret it. You hear me, motherfucker? I'm going to find you one of these days and re-arrange that ugly little face of yours until you can't recognize it in a mirror.

Yeah. I think I might actually take you up on that this time. You can stop by my place if you want. It's late, but I'll fix you some coffee. I'm living over in Loki district these days.

Yeah - Coffee sounds really good. What's the address? Loki is right next door to Sigyn so it won't take me long.

[Directions reach him easily enough.]

The coffee should be ready by the time you get here. Knock three times, steady. I don't usually expect guests... ever, really. So, it's good that I know who's at the door, Hisao.

Alright, sounds good. See you in a few!

[And, it took just a little while to get to the rough area and then to track down the number. Maybe fifteen to twenty minutes. He found the door and did as he was asked - three knocks, evenly spaced.]

[She takes her time coming to the door. When she opens it, she looks around before reaching out and grabbing him by the sleeve to yank him in and close the door firmly behind him. Her fingers were fumbling with a trio of locks. The door was firmly in place when she was done. She held an ice-pack to her head and simply gave a very small nod.]

So... welcome to my humble home.

[An accurate description. It was a very basic looking place. There was space for a fold-out bed from the couch and two rooms besides the bathroom, but it wasn't a very high quality apartment. Pretty cramped, really, and all of the furniture had a very hand-me-down feel to it. She might have been able to afford more, but it wasn't a priority for her.

The smell of coffee, however, was quite real.]

Hi-YAHK!

[He was a little surprised at being dragged through the door and then seeing so many locks... wow, she really, really didn't want unexpected company, did she?]

It's nice.

[And he meant it - sure, the furniture was a little old looking, but it was Hers, right? That had to feel sort of liberating. Even if your stuff wasn't the newest and brightest, you at least knew it was yours.]

And man, that coffee smells great! But let's get that head taken care of first, right?

Liar, heh.

[She chuckled and gave him a smirk. Ok, she didn't think her furniture was that impressive, but as he was thinking, it was hers. That was what mattered more to her.

She removed the pack from her head and the nasty welt on the back of her head.]

First thing's first I suppose either way. The coffee's not going to burn itself in the meantime.

Alright - hold still. And maybe close your eyes. Apparently that can help.

[He held out both of his hands and they lit up with a soft glow.]

Don't know if you've been healed this way before, but it kind of tingles, so, don't worry. It's normal.

[And he began to concentrate on making her feel well again.]

I've gotten a little help that way before, so don't worry. I don't like being touched much, but this is a little different, so go ahead.

[She winced as she felt the tingle, the wounds fading slowly away. Gamzee had cracked her head very well, so the full damage was something that Hisao couldn't completely remove. However, it did ease some of her discomfort.]

Thanks, Hisao. I don't want to push you more. It's a good thing I'm tougher than a lot of people. He hit damned hard.

I'll be careful to keep my hands at a distance, don't worry.

[He was pretty well used to people who disliked being touched, between Hanako and Satella. By the time she said she didn't want to push him, he was feeling a little drained, but not nearly so bad as the first few times he'd done this.]

OK... alright. Just let me know if you want me to have another try at it, OK? I don't mind.

[He dabbed at his forhead with his sleeve and then smiled.]

Hey, by the way, it's nice to finally meet you in person.

[She nodded towards the couch and went to pour a couple cups of coffee. While she did, she called back towards him from the kitchenette area. When she moved away, the very faint whiff of sulfur went with her. Her tail swished lazily behind her as she moved.]

Yeah, I suppose this is the first time meeting, isn't it Hisao? You take anything with yours? Sugar, cream? You mind if I smoke, by the way? I feel like a cigarette right now.

[Hisao took a seat on the indicated couch. It was comfy, if nothing else, and welcome after the effort of healing.]

No, go ahead. I don't mind. And I just like mine black and unsweetened if it's all the same. Thank you.

[There was a grunt of approval from the kitchenette. She emerged with a black stick in her mouth that was giving off a smell not unlike perfume, if a little sweeter than some. She set a mug in front of him and one in front of her before sitting down in the cheap, threadbare recliner. Her tail came up between her legs and flopped lazily as she leaned back to accommodate it.]

I'd give you the ten cent tour, but you can cover seven cents from where you're at. Still, the rent's cheap and the landlord isn't asking me stupid questions, so that's generally a good thing.

Hey now. It's worth at least fifty cents. In all seriousness, it's nice - and at least it's yours, y'know? I'm happy enough with the welcome hall for now, but it must be cool having your own place.

[He picked up the cup of coffee, blowing on it a few times. The thing she was smoking was odd - he'd been expecting a regular cigarette. He had to admit, the smell of this one was nicer than he'd been expecting. Sipping the drink gently, he smiled.]

It's a good cup of coffee. Thank you.

It means I'm not living in the same place as murder happy clowns, territorial spider demons and whatever other morbid crap they decided to move into Hel House lately. That's a definite improvement in my book. Painwheel's ok, despite the looks, but a lot of them aren't the sort I want to spend time around.

[Yeah, Samantha had never really had to worry about inhaling a few fumes in her world, so she had a taste for cloves on the occasions she smoked. Importing them here wasn't impossible, just annoyingly expensive so she didn't get to have them often.]

You're welcome. How've you been holding up?

Murder... happy clowns? Just when you think you know a place you find out about murder happy clowns.

[He cleared his throat, shrugged, and took another sip of good, hot coffee.]

I've been doing fine, actually. Work is nice, still running in the mornings, cooking dinner for various people in the evenings and still finding some time to hide away with a book or ninety four a few hours most days. No complaints on my end. You? I mean... apart from the obvious.

[He gestured to his own head. He could kind of figure she'd run afoul of someone. Chances were high she had no desire to expound upon that at length.]

My miraculous ability to make friends and win people over to my way of thinking continues to amaze even me. I'm just impressive that way, you know? Sounds like you've found a way to keep yourself busy. Me, I've got apothecary stuff over at the clinic and I'm still mapping the town. It's getting me pretty much what I need.

[She finally took a sip and breathed out. Another drag and the air took on a perfumed sort of smell around them. Any hint of sulfur faded, which was of course the point.]

[OK, he couldn't help chuckling just a little at that first part.]

I see. You ought to write a book about that. The sequel to 'How to win friends and influencve people'. Though, it's good to know the apothecary stuff and the mapping are keeping you busy. How's working for Doctor Watson? I like him a lot - he's really helped me out in my time here.

"How to piss people off and enrage clowns?" Yeah, I think I could write a book like that no problem.

[Yeah, that got a snort of a laugh and a shrug.]

He's a pleasant fellow, and he gives me the leeway to do what I have to. You stop by his office now and again, don't you? He's ... definitely good at what he did.

[Not gonna say anything...]

That title just has 'New York Times Best Seller' written all over it. If you need an editor, just let me know?

[He chuckled again and drank more of his coffee.]

Yeah, I can imagine so long as you were getting done what needed to be done, he'd be a fairly easy guy to work for. I stop in fairly often. You probably have at least SOME idea why.

[His smile became slightly wry. There was little point dancing around it by this point and she'd worked there long enough that his prescription had been refilled at least once under her watch.]

... No, I know exactly what some of that's about. Not enough I could fill in the blanks completely, but enough that I have a good idea you don't like anything dealing with matters of the heart. [For different reasons, of course. She shouldn't be laughing, but that pun had a dark chuckle in her throat.]

You're young to be screwing with that shit. Doesn't the healing magic around here help at least a little?

Heh... matters of the heart? Yeah, you could put it that way.

[His own chuckle was less dark, more dry.]

Unfortunately no - My condition is like... a mechanical defect more than anything that can be healed. It won't exactly get better over time or anything, but the medication and exercise and good diet help manage it. Only had one minor incident since arriving so that's actually a pretty long stretch of good luck so far.

Yeah. I guess that makes sense. It's not something I've really encountered too much in my life, but I was pretty limited in my experiences until about a year and a half or so ago. At least you haven't had too many problems one way or another.

So, if you don't mind me asking a stupid question. Why the hell you hanging around me? It's not exactly as if my life's prone to being boring and quiet, you know.

And I'm supposed to enjoy boring and quiet just because I have a heart condition?

[He asked it with a wry smile and a quirked brow - there was no confrontation in his tone.]

If you want to know, it's just because you seem cool and I enjoy talking to you. That's pretty much it. I'd like us to be friends. And so far I haven't been hit with any boulders or bitten by any clowns, so, we're in good shape thus far.

Yeah, because I heard clownism was infectious once upon a time. [The only episode of ATHF she ever watched. Most days, she was grateful she didn't grow up with a TV.]

I'm not really good at this whole friend thing, just so you know Hisao. I lived with my mom all my life, and I haven't held onto a friend long before I've ended up hurting them. It's... awkward to have people ask. I've given up trying to stop people, since everyone around here either has the sense to stay away or they're just dense about it, but you should know I'm not really sure how to be a friend, other than having someone's back.

...

And I'm not asking the Neighbor's Club. They're nucking futs.
