Where I come from, most cultures have their own takes on the otherwordly, the supernatural. As shown in this entry, many of you are familiar with the lore of your world and even have had your own encounters with them.

Let me ask you this, to supplement the previous question: What creatures or supernatural beings of your world are generally portrayed in a negative light? Of those, do any have a particular fascination with blood?

Discuss as you will.

Vampires seem to be the most commonly associated with blood, yes.

What of the demons and were creatures of your world?

Some are predators, and some have a taste for human flesh. Depending on the variety, I suppose that there would be some with a taste for blood specifically. Some demons are more or less like vampires or humans with fangs. It allows them to drink like vampires, and they are a depraved, twisted group as a rule.

Oh, there was also the old goat sucker myths in mexico. Chupacabra or something like that. I think it was supposed to like blood too.

So demons are just as likely to drink blood as vampires? You seem very familiar with their properties. Are they that common in your world or is it simply personal interest?

The Chupacabra is one I haven't heard of and will also be looking into.

Demons? They're creatures of sin and vice. It does not take much to guess that they will do horrible things. If they have fangs, behaving like a vampire is pretty damned depraved. They're as likely to do other things than simply drink at the same time, just as a guess.

As for how common they are, hard to say really. I prefer to think of it as survival instincts myself. You have fun hunting down the chupacabra stories. I've heard some really weird ones.

The demons of religion, which I am most familiar with, are often depicted as simply seducing any believers from their faith. I do not remember drinking blood being one of their traits, though it does not surprise me.

Survival instincts as in you have encountered these demons before?

The supernatural hide in the shadows, just out of sight in my world. The unwary are their prey. [Of course, what that said about her wasn't good.] And, I think if your stories are like mine you are only really remembering the tales of the scriptures. Demons tempt people away from the god they oppose, but you tempt through vices and desires. They just like even more depraved ones, bored with human choices.

Vampirism is pretty extreme.

Extreme for the demons, I assume. Are there particular traits that might distinguish these extreme demons from the others?

[Well, yes, that would definitely be the case. She, however, was close to fully paranoid.]

No, it's extreme more by human standards. I'm not sure that I'm comfortable describing what I would consider extreme by demonic standards. They aren't remotely human in attitudes, and they care nothing for the pain they cause.

If it's for my state of mind, you need not worry. I'm certain I can handle the details.

Demons are the masters of hell, where those who oppose their great enemy [she didn't often like giving 'god' the kindness of a name.] are punished for an eternity. An example of depravity might be to look to the ancient inquisition of the Spanish, if you are familiar with it. Tools of the trade, torture, agony, pain and prolonged torment. Thumbscrews and the Iron Maiden of course come to mind, though a lot of that was basically hogwash.

What those tools could do is a pale imitation of what a demon could do if serrated, bladed and crushing tools were at their discretion, with medical or magical means to make sure the person suffers as long as possible. Worst of all is an old lesson that the strongest of people should remember.

Sometimes pleasure is more painful than pain to the unprepared.

If you really need ideas, the library might have a copy of the Witch's Hammer. There's a lot of history from other worlds. It was something people used long ago in my world. It should give you an idea of what a demon is capable.

I will look into the title at the earliest possible time. It must be quite the resource, if you have gathered your information from it.

It's a horrible, twisted book that some fool chose to reprint so people could learn from the mistake of horrible, twisted men a very long time ago. Like I said before, survival instincts. Knowing what horrible things do gets you ready to protect yourself from horrible things. Seeing them lurking in the shadows teaches you to know the difference between the real monsters, and the ones that are just hiding.
