((ooc: ooc clinic info post is here! Let me know if the font is annoying -- I may have gotten carried away. I can't tell anymore.
ETA: I suspect 2/2 secretary positions are filled, as is the pharmacist spot! Don't let this put you off getting in touch if you're interested however -- we might be able to come up with a position for you.))

[Watson stands, holding out his hand for a handshake. He's nowhere near as nervous as Mary, but a side glance at Holmes reveals that he does have concerns about this interview.]
My companion.
GUESS WHO IS LATE?
My companion. [ He'll answer sharply. ] Has no grasp of the concept of anonymity. I do sincerely hope, you are far more superior in this area.
[ There's the barest hint of dryness in his tone. ]
no subject
Yeah. [All the staring. It's kind of unsettling.] I'm pretty good at it. Lying's kind of my second language.
[Beat.]
But not to you guys. I need this job.
[She holds her hand out to Holmes.]
Mary Campbell. Nice to meet you.
no subject
We appreciate your honesty with us, Mary. Please, make yourself at home.
I gather you've already spoken over this network?
no subject
Somewhat. Will you continue to tarry forth with such indecency? - [ it's naturally a reference to the skirt. ]
Honesty has it's merits.
no subject
Indecency? What are you...?
no subject
I don't recall you ever advocating for standards of decency, before -- Companion. [Lord, this anonymous thing is trying.]
In fact, if I recall a certain anecdote told to me by Clarky, you at one point deplored against adherence to such arbitrary dictates of society.
no subject
I normally hold no objections, but a man has standards - friend. It is an utterly suspicious matter that of all the nannies you choose to hire, you select the one that is blond, insufficiently clothed and who's first name is Mary.
[ a beat. ]
You're bringing that up, really?
no subject
Hey! With all due respect, Detective, watch your mouth.
no subject
[Watson's going to ignore the allusions to his ~*fiancee*~ and instead draw Mary a chair. Look, Mary! One of them has manners.]
Since Mary has so kindly offered us her time by coming over here tonight, I think we should get down to business. I consider her suitably qualified, do you have any questions, Companion?
Or perhaps you have some for us, Mary?
no subject
[ Shooting Watson a pointed look. ]
I need to know that you are capable of holding secrets together. [ He's also snorting inside, trying to see how long before you drop the word 'companion'. ] At times, the nature of our line of work is dipped in secrecy. Back home - if that statement rings any truth, we had dealt with a wide spectrum of clients. Some as illustrious as the King of Bohemia himself.
Your discretion is paramount to your employment.

[Because then it's time for Holmes to talk. Mary's eyebrows slowly climb towards her hairline during his little speech, and honest to God she spends half of it wondering why she's surrounded by so many yummy British accents.
At the end, she's paying enough attention to visibly resist the urge to roll her eyes.]
Mr. Holmes- I already told you, I've spent all my life keeping secrets. [Beat.] What could you possibly be doing here that's that secret? Are you trying to hide what you're doing from the gods?
no subject
He couldn't help but smirk at the 'Mr. Holmes' -- rumbled already?]
Mary makes a rather strong point, I feel.
no subject
It is not the gods I hide from.
[ he says tartly. ]
What business, after all, do they have in meddling in mortal affairs? [ taking a puff before moving the pipe away from his mouth. ] I worry about much more than that.
