[ It's not unusual. The video just opens on a face: nose, freckles, green eyes the brightest of pretty, muted features and darting nervously back and forth. But anyone in the area may notice the trail of blonde hair leading from somewhere in the middle of the park up into one of the tallest trees where Rapunzel is sitting, relishing her surroundings and hiding at once. ]

So… Is — This is working, right? I mean - I've never really used a bracelet to talk to other people before and - [ she laughs nervously, toys with her hair ] Actually. I've never really talked to other people before in general. It's kind of — Well - [ sigh ] I just really have to ask and - [ she winces ] Sorry.

I need to know if anyone's seen a chameleon around. My chameleon. Well - my friend who is also a chameleon. His name's Pascal. [ And then the brilliant speech segues into a faint half-smile, a smile that eventually freezes as something occurs to her and, feigning bravery, she narrows her eyes, scowling to say loftily: ] But if anyone finds him and doesn't give him back? Or - Or they try and hurt him? I. Will hurt you. Because uh - I have a frying pan? And I am so not afraid to use it.

[ Huh. This privacy thing is interesting. She's going to have to make better use of it when she isn't staring horrified at this new piece of information. ]

Captured? [ That wasn't at all how it was explained to her. And the idea that somehow she's been deceived has her reaching for her hair, squeezing it protectively even as she fights back a growing anger. ] Who's "us"? Other people like me? Thugs? Ruffians? Have any of them succeeded, Nina? At...finding a way to leave?

[Uh oh. Nina should've anticipated this. Although it was good to be cautious, Nina didn't want to frighten Rapunzel.]

Please don't be frightened. Everything will be all right. Ah, this would be easier to explain in person. [Nina thinks she recognizes the park.]

Could you please do me a favor and just stay where you're at? And maybe move your bracelet a little, so I can see more of the area? I'll be over as soon as I can.

[ Still a little dazed by this news, she nods distractedly and does as asked, turning the bracelet and screen to reveal the tree and surrounding landscape of flowers and paths. ]You're not going to hurt me, are you? You're just...going to explain? I still have this frying pan.

I promise. I'm only going to explain. I just want to help. [A thoughtful pause.] You can keep your frying pan and I can stay at a distance, if it'll make you feel better.

[ After a lengthy, thoughtful pause of her own Rapunzel finally nods, something like a doubtful smile at the edge of her mouth. ]

Very well! You - You can come under those conditions only.

[Nina smiles in response, trying her best to look friendly.]

All right. I'll be there soon.

[After about 15 minutes, Nina arrives. She had been running, so when she sees Rapunzel, she stops a moment to regain her breath. As promised, Nina stays at a distance.]

Hi, Rapunzel. It's nice to meet you in person.

[ ᴀᴄᴛıᴏɴ FOREVER ]

[ And as promised she's got her hands squeezed tight around the handle of her skillet, a strange thing at odds with the surprisingly relaxed look on her face. She just raises the frying pan in greeting and smiles, sheepish. ]

Hi Nina. You're pretty.

[Nina's taken aback a bit by the compliment. She doesn't expect it, but she gives a bright smile in response.]

Thank you. You're very pretty, Rapunzel. [Despite knowing about the fairytale, Nina is in awe when she sees Rapunzel's long hair.]

I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long.

[glistens]

[ It was the combination of truth and "ANOTHER GIRL!!!" that had her saying it, and the combination of "ANOTHER GIRL!!!" and "this is uncomfortable" that has Rapunzel lowering the frying pan almost mindlessly. ]

No. Not really. There's a lot to do. [ and so she gestures to the bracelet ]

There are some things about this world that are concerning.

Concerning? [ Rapunzel laughs a little: her natural reaction to worry. ] Um. How...do you mean?

[Nina speaks gently.]

There are a lot of amazing things in this world and many kind and compassionate people, but there's also danger. [Nina doesn't want Rapunzel to be scared, but it's important that she's aware.] The gods have done horrible things.

[corona]

What - [ Her voice cracks slightly so she straights again to clear it, to clear the image of the frightened girl she knows she's probably projecting. ] What kind of things?

[Nina considers her words carefully. She doesn't want Rapunzel to feel overwhelmed.]

They've hurt a lot of people. [Nina pauses.] But not everything's bad. I've met many wonderful people here even though I only arrived a little while ago, and we're working on a way to leave.

[glistens]

[ Nina has no idea how beneficial the delicate phrasing is to Rapunzel's emotional state right now. It's bad, she thinks, not realizing how bad it could be. ]

So they're - they are thugs. The gods?
