Chapter 03 - [Video/Action for Heimdall]

[So if you've been looking for Shiage today, he hasn't been out and about much. In fact, it looks like he's holed himself up in his (completely cleaned up) room. And what has he been doing all of this time? It looks like he's been playing video games. Dating sims, in fact. There's nothing harmless about this, right?

Obviously... When you've had your kokoro crushed, the most rational option is to close it off and dive into a place where you think everything is sunshine and rainbows. There's going to be a "Kyaaaaa!" and a "BAD COMMUNICATION" from the TV and Shiage mumbles something under his breath before he speaks more clearly.]

... Dammiiiiiit! If I only I had built up more affections points on Day 3, then maybe I could've tried jumping for Sakura-chan's route! Ahhh, but I can't resist the Class President's charms either! I really wanna clear her route too... Man, there's a lot of cuties in this game! [He still looks like ridiculously happy, though. Can't say it's the "healthy and normal" happy.]

But isn't that festival coming up soon? Heh heh heh~ Maybe I could rebound for the super moe Kisarag--Um, Sakura-chan before then! That could work out as long as I work hard enough. After I clear this game, what should I play next? Maybe I could go for an RPG! Whatever. I've got all the time in the world 'til my soul burns out!

... [A beat.] 'Least nothin' can you hurt you when you're in the 2D world.

[Yeah, something sounded off about that last line there. Guess who became a gamer NEET overnight.]

[ that’s caught her off guard for a second, clearly confused by his question. shouldn’t she be talking to him? it’s not like anything was stopping her from having a conversation with him, regardless if her SS agent was here or not. he wasn’t rude enough to intervene in her conversations, and furthermore, they weren’t even in the same house nor district. ]

Huh! You sound surprised. What, were you expecting me to cut all ties with you just because of one arrival? You really are a puppy with that attitude of yours.

[ ah. so that’s what this was all about. it’s a sad thought really, and even though she gives out the impression of being cold, she wasn’t going to drop someone else. that is, so long as they weren’t just a mere hinderance. Shiage, however, was not listed under as such. she’d opened up to him, especially at the Valentines Day Ball, and not only that but they were part of the same club.

the idea of her making him “be out of a job” was ridiculous, even for her. ]

He’s not my servant -- I’m perfectly capable of doing things with my own two hands and feet. However, he is my SS agent. [ even if it took a lot of convincing on her part to let him be as such. ] Therefor, he is going to be around quite a bit. He isn’t here to steal your place, and I doubt that going as far as plotting such a thing would be beyond him. [ except it would be totally normal for him to. ]

[An agent? So that explains everything that was going on... He still looked like a butler and acted like a dog, so he put all the pieces together. In the end, he was truly being an idiot again. Maybe he seriously underestimated her which makes him feel more worst than he already is. There was a pause before he speaks up.]

Heh... Is that right?

[He smiles, but it's more sad than usual. Shiage always had a inferiority complex towards people who were better than himself. It didn't help that Soushi looked ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS compared to a loser like himself. Hence why he jumped to conclusions so quickly.]

Heh... Is that right? I guess I really am pathetic to believe that I've lost my role to such a cool guy. If there was a popularity contest, I know he would win compared to me. In the end, I'm not all that strong, well poised or handsome.

But... [...] At least I know that you still believe in me. [He wasn't sure if he could even believe in himself anymore.]

I am sorry to interrupt your discussion with Ririchiyo-sama, but I believe we have a few matters to discuss. Matter we never got the chance to talk about in our first encounter.

[He sounds like his usual polite self, but there's a not so happy expression on his face which Shiage thankfully cannot see. His gaze would've made him more uneasy. However, his tone of voice turns a bit dangerous when he begins to speak again:]

Your role as being Ririchiyo-sama's protector, dog, and servant is now over. I do not mind your relationship with her or her nickname towards you. [Actually no, he does mind, but his feelings do not matter to him. His job, however, does.] But I do not wish for someone else to do anything else for her. I am more than just her SS agent. I am her faithful dog. Her true faithful companion. I will not share my only joy of serving her to anyone else.

Maybe if I need you to watch her in the distant future, then I would allow you to take care of her in my absense. But nothing beyond it. Do you understand?

[Wait a second... His role was over? For a second, Shiage considers throwing in the towel. It might have been the best choice. He was already better than him in every way, but...

Maybe he could just stay as Friend #1, #2, #3... Any kind of number, but he wouldn't feel that honored role anymore. Considering that fact that she believed in him... That gave him strength.

So that was the final straw. He already lost the girl he liked, so he didn't want to lose his indebted role to Ririchiyo either. Shiage has lost far too much to give up. That's why he decided to stand up against her "true loyal dog". ]

--Wait a second! Fuck that! It's not your place to make choices like this! If Shirakiin wants me to go away, then I'll gladly bow out! Isn't she the one who supposed to decide this!? I'm not gonna keel over because you said so! I've already lost a lot of precious things, so that's why I don't want you to take this role away from me!

[Bad move. His words and coarse language will only make him feel more anger towards the other. No matter what he is going to make his place quite clear.]

I am sorry to be rude. I am not normally like this, but I doubt every meaning behind your words. You do not know the true meaning of losing everything. Because someone who truely has lost everything has no will to live on. From observing you, it seems you still have the will to live. At least, you had the honor to call something as "precious".

[In other words, Soushi has tactfully admitted to never having anything precious and will to live for himself whatsoever.]

Ririchiyo-sama made a contract with me, one that will be in effect for many years to come. Even after our deaths. So it's actually the other way around, isn't it? You are the one who's trying to steal another person's place...and reason to live. I only live to serve Ririchiyo-sama. The day I cannot be her hands and feet is the day I will part from this world. I do not care about your feelings. I do not care about your relationship with her, but when it comes to interfering with another man's work, life, and only reason to live is a different matter. It is not trivial.

Do you understand what I am trying to say? Are you willing to take another person's life just like that? Because unlike you -- Ririchiyo-sama is the only thing I have. She is my first and only person that is precious to me.

You... [Just what was with this guy? Shiage stays quiet as he listens to this words. When he compares this to himself, Shiage hasn't truly lost everything just yet. Even when the odds were against him, he did have a strong will to live. That's one reason why he was able to defeat one of the strongest Espers in his world, after all. But when he thinks about it... Didn't Shiage used to steal from others in order to survive? Wasn't he just becoming arrogant and full of himself because she had called him his "loyal dog"?

Honestly, he knew that this wouldn't had lasted long... But he still enjoyed playing the role. In the end, he was just playing with someone else's toy and it was time for him to give it back.

He didn't even know things were that serious. Shiage has taken lives before, but nothing like this. In the end, he was looking like the villain here. After a second, he'll take a long sigh.]

I didn't know things were like that. I thought it was like a typical job like a butler or a housemaid. Listen... If that's how things are, then I'll give you your life back. It wasn't mine to begin with, so it's only fair. But don't think that I won't come to her aid whenever she's in trouble. It's not my style to just leave someone hanging when they're in danger. You can hold that against me all you want, but I'm her friend and I'm gonna protect her too.

... [However, there was still something about his words that really bothered him.] But now, I'm getting pissed off for a new reason.

No. Only a mediocre bodyguard will make the mistake of only doing one part of their work just like a normal servant would as well. A true bodyguard and servant not only protect their master's physical well-being, but their entire well-being. My job is to protect Ririchiyo-sama both inside and out, so I need to protect her from everything at all cost. It isn't a job I take lightly either. My life is to serve, and if I fail then I have no reason to exist.

[He takes his role very seriously to the point of fixing his entire lifestyle to suit Ririchiyo-sama's tastes. His job is to always satisfy his master -- there is no out of duty in his vocabulary.]

[And once the other understood Soushi's rightful place beside his master by doing everything, his tone returns to his usual polite and kind one. It was obvious he felt happier now.]

Thank you. I will keep it in mind as a future reference. Ririchiyo-sama and I do not have the finances from our world to take care of certain necessities to live comfortably, so I am sure you will be of some use to us soon. [Shiage. This is a compliment. Soushi just gave you a bone.] I only think of my master's best interests. Your relationship with her has nothing to do with me. I am only her humble servant, nothing worth mentioning. Well, as long as you do not cross the dog line again, then we will get along just fine.

[At the other's final words, Soushi did not feel anything over his feelings of anger because he knew he was like this before their conversation. Usually he could careless about other people's feelings, but due to having a connection to his master -- he had no choice, but to feel concerned.]

If it's the way I spoke to you before, then I apologize for offending you.

No... It's not that. It's how you kept talkin' down on yourself about how you were nothing without your master. If she really is the world to ya, then I understand. But... You shouldn't sell yourself short. There's lot more to this world than your master, y'know.

... And I don't mind that offensively!

[It was a surprise to hear the other man's words over the reason behind his new found anger. All because of the way he spoke about himself?

The idea of someone actually worrying over him was...both amusing, and unfamiliar. Other than his master and Kagerou's mother, no one has ever voice their concern over him. He wasn't confident in his next answer, but it had to be said.

After all, it was the only thing he understood and felt familiar with...]

Ririchiyo-sama, does this mean you've replace me while I was away?

[His words will come off as a kicked puppy tone. She might not be able to tell if he was sparkling nor wearing his usual hurtful expressions, but it was easy to tell by the tone alone.]

[ the voice is enough to make her jump, her conversation with Shiage being cut short as she glances toward the door. it was a shot in the dark, but an accurate one considering this was Soushi we were talking about here, not only that but she could practically feel his aura of despair radiating from her door. ]

[ without another word, she walks toward the door and kneels in front of it as she eyes it with eyes as if to question ones sanity and if it was in check or not. honestly, if things were going to keep up like this, she didn’t know how long she’d survive. ]

I can hear you from the other side of the door, you know.

[Her ability to figure out his location did not surprise him, not one bit. Soushi expected as much from his master.]

As always, Ririchiyo-sama's deduction skills are as amazing and top notice as ever before! I'm glad you have not lost your ability to read your humble servant, no dog's movements. Only you would know how...

[As you can tell, he is still wrapping his mind over Ririchiyo being in Asgard for a long time. He still is upset about many things as well.]

[ she could tell, perhaps not well but she knew something didn’t quite fit. then again, maybe she was overthinking again? suddenly she felt like she had when he hadn’t responded to her text and so she went over to his house -- the weirdest thing she’d ever done. ]

Are you going to stay behind that door, or are you going to come inside? There’s lions roaming about, and I don’t want to have to clean up a dead body outside my door.

[ it was true that Ririchiyo wasn’t fully prepared before he invited himself into her room, and on top of that neither was her heart. it thumped loudly, resounding throughout her rib cage as her hand snakes its way up to the place the sound was echoing from. seeing him here, right in front of her, she didn’t really know how to feel. even so, she responds to his question in her usual no-need attitude. ]

Haven’t we already gone through this? I’ve told you time and time again that I don’t need your unnecessary fussing. If I allow you to do all those things for me, I will lose my ability to do them myself. And I can get to the kitchen from this distance easily. [ as if to empathize her point, she directs her gaze across the room where the Kitchen is. ]

[ and then her attitude softens, her body language now shy as if about to confess to someone. in her awkwardness, she shuffles on the spot as her eyes are downcast while her hands occupy themselves with playing with the hem of her skirt while she fidgets, her cheeks rapidly becoming more and more flushed by the second. it’s not as if it wasn’t her first time doing this, but it was always so hard for her.

when she speaks, her voice no longer holds its monotone edge but a more feminine touch. the last time Miketsukami heard this was after she’d poured the water over herself for his outburst at the two boys before she went up to do her speech. her eyes dance around from side to side, left and right and so on as she parts her lips for sound to come out. ]

W-Would you like some c-c-c-c-c-c-coffee? I could make you some, c-considering you traveled all this way to the Odin district a-and not only that but... you’ve stayed outside my door ever since you found out where I was...

[While Ririchiyo scolds him over insisting on doing things on her own, Soushi will simply smile towards her as if he was not listening at all. Actually, it was clear he was not listening because he will be heading towards the kitchen once she points it out.]

Ah, your kitchen is quite lovely, Ririchiyo-sama. Very different from our norm, but it should do. Have you been able to use it without any trouble? [And as he says this, the pained look on his face was very obvious to notice even if he was smiling at her.]

[But then the smile will begin to fade away when he finally noticed the sudden change in both appearance, attitude, and atmosphere. He had a feeling it was important to lend her his ear and attention because she wanted to tell him something important.

All of his past worries began to melt away while watching and waiting patiently for his master to speak. When she was finally able to express herself, he couldn't help feel a loud bang in his own heart, but decided to hide it from her. It was easy to tell his mood changed drastically at the request for coffee. Because when she previously requested to drink coffee together, to begin their newly formed partnership, Kagerou's sudden appearance ruined their plans to go on with it.

He will avoid his gaze and place a hand over his chest, again. It was easy to tell he was beginning to pant again. If she wanted to drink coffee, then he was going to react the same way as earlier.]
