037 - Video
[Where else was Samantha ever present in these things than when she was in her lab? It would have been a rare sight to see her anywhere else on the network. Something was bubbling in the background and an old, weathered stone statue stood in the corner looking stolid.
She grunted and looked down at some notes before glancing at the feed.]
It's been a few weeks. There's going to be a reprisal. Either from what's left of her forces if they can muster it, or Surt's going to come after us. His lot's been itching for a fight.
So, I guess the cat's a little 'out of the bag' now about some of the things I've been up to. Good. [She coughed once.] If anyone needs me for that sort of thing, give me a call, but in the meantime, I'm just going to be an eternal kill joy and get right back to work.
Poultices still need to be made. We've got supplies ready, but just in case he comes to Asgard itself, I want a plan of action. If the fight's here, we don't need to split our healer teams up like we did last month. I'm open to working with anyone who feels up to defending folks that isn't in the military in helping make sure the medics stay safe during a fight. If they go down, we could end up sunk.
So, right then. Give me a call if you want in on the fun. [Yeah, someone thought of potions as fun. She really needed to get out more.]

You've got all these powerful ancient people goin' around forgettin' they can die, even though that's sorta the point of it all. [She was trying to bring about the end to all things, after all. Although really...
It may be his own bias, knowing how the original Devil met his end.]
no subject
No, you're right. If she hadn't hurt people I like, it would be damned close to hilarious. Gods... they're the worst about forgetting that they can die. Even if they have themselves wrapped up around fate, they pretend that nothing can truly harm them.
There's an irony in being a god. Personally, screw that. I'd never want to deal with the bs. Better to be a mortal, forgotten.
no subject
I gotta agree, though. Bein' a god doesn't sound worth it in the long run to me.
[Devil he may be, but judging by the convoluted plan a certain other God had put into place just to ensure his own death, it's a shared sentiment between the two. Being at the very top isn't all it's cracked up to be.]
Hey, does this look ground up right to you?
no subject
Two or three more grinds, get those little shreds in them and then mix in the oil. Should be ready to go in just a minute actually.
There are a lot of crap jobs in creation I'd never want. Being a god's one of them. Too much work for too little pay-off in the end, unless you really like spending your life making something work that nobody ever thanks you for doing.

Seems like it'd get kind of dull after a while, too. Even if you're just close to immortal, it's a long time to live.

[He turns his focus to the task at hand for a moment, going silent as he finishes it up.]
--There, I think that ought to do it!

The one thing I make that always seems to run out. Something about people trying to get themselves killed.
no subject
[If he lives long enough.
But wheee bandage-making!]
I didn't realize that was such a problem around here. Then again, if you don't have to worry about goin' permanently...

Here, I think people get their head wrapped around coming back more than the problems. It's easy to feel immortal when you actually look like you are.
no subject
[What a world Samantha's must be.]
As for this place... I can kinda see how people would think that way. When I came back, I was just glad I wasn't hurtin' anymore.
no subject
[She snickered softly.]
There's a little irony to this talk. I didn't really share it, but my father's dead. I can't come back from the dead at home anymore. But, no. I wasn't worried. He'd decided he needed me alive for his twisted little game, so I started taking it for granted after a while.
[Her gaze turned towards him and there was a small, curt nod.]
It's... hard to know how to feel. I'd rather you not be dead, personally... but coming back only to suffer again, I don't know how kind it is. Of course, it isn't like they're trying to make you suffer here.
no subject
Must've been rough, getting tugged along like that. [And boy doesn't he know the feeling, even if he wasn't allowed to die in the first place.]
Guess that explains your views, though. You'd think most people would be excited, bein' able to come back from the dead. They don't have to worry so much about losin' people permanently.
no subject
But you're right. For most people, it feels like a blessing. The fine print's easy to miss.
no subject
...Lucky you, then. You make any special friends in your version that the others didn't or somethin'?
[...Although, if alternate realities really did exist, did that mean that in some world out there, he had decided differently...?]
As for the others, I'd guess it's 'cause they have less experience with the... well, dyin' and comin' back thing.
no subject
I'm... still not sure what was different between that world and me, other than that maybe that world was a lot more hopeless when Pixel went rogue.
no subject
[Kind of a pity, really, but them's the breaks. Not that it would do him any good anyhow; his future is about as set in stone as it could get, no matter who he met or what he chose.]
You're gonna have to explain those people, though. I don't think you've mentioned them before... Dusk and Pixel?
no subject
Pixel was weird. I barely knew of him, since he was before my time. Like a living computer program. He went rogue and completely insane at one point. Started killing people without warning. We still don't really know why.
no subject
[He remembers hearing about her now.]
--Pixel sounds like somethin' straight out of a sci-fi movie, though. How'd he kill people if he's a program?
no subject
One of the weirder guys we had running around.
no subject
Your world has some real interestin' people it sounds like.
no subject
...actually, this place is more normal.
no subject
[Which isn't to say his world is devoid of it entirely, but it's certainly not to the extent of Asgard, that's for sure.]
