[Roland sits amid wood, nails, and wire, scattered in a few small piles across the overgrown back yard. A little ways behind him, eagle-eyed viewers might notice a chicken in the process of laying an egg.]

Fiona Gallagher's... gone home. She, ah-- [He shakes his head, starts over, nodding at the house his camera's not at the right angle to show.] Anything in there's fair game. Odin 107, I mean. I won't be needing any of it. The door'll be open. Probably food and furniture, mostly - anything in the cupboards or refrigerator, anything not nailed down, bar the refrigerator and stove. I think the place came with those. [He shakes his head again, realizing he might be starting to ramble.] Doesn't matter. Corn, beans, squash plants in the back. Take them. Can probably see 'em behind me somewhere.

[Another chicken starts to peck at his sleeve and he lifts his arm, blinking at it.] Ah. Couple chickens, if you can catch them. Is that all? I think... I could probably use a couple extra hands to get all this wood and a couple of these plants over to Freyr district. And I... to be honest, I could probably use the company.

Bowls. I'll need a few of the bowls to transport these plants in. Other than that... Plates, silverware, clothes, bedding. Doesn't matter. I'll be leaving once it's empty. If I'm not here, don't take any of the magic plants. I'll find you. [The tone of that last is too absent for it to sound like a threat. It sounds, if anything, like an afterthought.]

The door's open. Have I said... [He has, probably. Roland shakes his head again, grimacing at himself, and cuts the feed.]

[Her lips turned in a distasteful frown. It wasn't something she liked to think about, but he was right. Her efforts to create protections against that had all hit road-blocks. They'd still forget no matter what.]

You had actually said as much before. I'll make sure that the greenhouse is kept up and that the shop sees use. We need distribution points, after all.

And you're right. She's not away from her family anymore. That at least is good.

Oh. I- [He runs a hand over his face, only realizing after the fact that he's just spread dirt all over it with the gesture.] Pardon. I'll remember better later, I'm sure. The greenhouse I'm rebuilding behind the shop. Should be done soon enough, mostly the same as before. You shouldn't have any trouble getting anything you need.

We came to that decision right after all those memory loss issues. Honestly, it's a miracle I remember in the first place. I think between the three greenhouses we have, we'll at least be able to do something in a siege. I worry about long sieges though.

These shortages will have prepared us for something like that, at least a little. People will already be finding ways to make for themselves anything they might need.

[Except for Roland, who is abandoning his plants and chickens and entire steady food supply that he'd been building up specifically in case of a siege, for... totally logical reasons.]

Between you and I and a little luck, we should be able to keep our own supply going. As long as neither of us has trouble with the same plant at the same time, we'll be alright.

That's what I'm hoping. A few minor shortages can teach you what you actually need. I've been stocking up on jerky and hard tack myself. It does the trick for a carnivore, so I can work with it. The more people get this into their minds, the better.

In the end, though, I want to make sure we're all stocking and growing firebloom. All the rest are good, but the more we have of that, the better. I fully expect we'll run out before the end, since it's the one for basic poultices.

I'll make sure to keep an eye on that one. Should one of us go by the medics, make sure they're growing some of their own?

I'm teaching them how to make the poultices, and I'll add that in as much as possible. Home gardening's not a terrible thing, after all.

No, it isn't. I wouldn't trust just anyone with a lot of these plants, nor with the mixtures that come from them, but it couldn't hurt to encourage at least some self sufficiency. Don't know how much time I'll have but if you need another hand with that, let me know.

Firebloom at least doesn't have a habit of being used for anything dangerous, so at least we won't be making things worse by getting more of them. Like you said, there's plants I wouldn't trust most folks with. Most of my poisons, for example.

Mm. But medics should be a little more trustworthy. A little more capable, too. If the shortages get worse it may be best to reevaluate how much to trust them with. For now, poultices and the like will probably do.

Mark the cases each creates, so we have a record of who made what. It simplifies things without making it obvious. If there's a problem, it gives us a starting point to check.

Yes. Since you're in charge of those things I'll leave it up to you. Seems you have it well in hand.

I'll do what I can, but it does kind of look like I've taken over coordinating some of the supplies, so it's probably a good idea to keep it up and consistent.

Sort of funny. My shop still sells stuff that's illegal where I come from. Getting used to running smuggling's a pretty good way to know how to handle this sort of thing.

I was having thoughts in that direction as well. Fiona, um, she's had one or two dealings with Asgard's 'black market' or I wouldn't have wondered. [Which doesn't have much to do with his actual question, but the statement had already started coming out before that'd occurred to him and so he'd soldiered bravely on through it.] Do you know if the supply coordination people have at least considered working with that black market? I don't know if they need to right now, but there may come a time when it'll hurt everyone not to pool all our resources.

It barely exists any longer. There's still smugglers in town, but I cut ties over the last bit. Between the formation of the patrols and the loss of Utgard, the smugglers are getting to be a bit of a desperate lot.

[She grunted and looked away.] And, while I'm pretty open-minded, I started cutting ties with that sort of thing back home too after a while. That doesn't mean they couldn't be useful, but their resources are a lot less these days.
