[One of these days, Samantha meant to do one of these addresses somewhere outside of her lab. But, at this point, it had become a security blanket. Part of her was just used to doing something with her hands, and right then she was going over a series of notes she'd acquired from Sophie. A beaker was bubbling, and there was something dark green in it. In the background a stone humanoid shape could be seen.]

Some of you know Draco and Castiel aren't with us anymore. Since they and Euri disappeared, Asclepius is still open, though I'm going to leave to Sophie any announcements she's got on how things will be running over there. But, in the meantime, Pinch of Sage is going to be one of the only potions shops in town. There's still apothecaries among the natives... but at the same time I seem to have inherited several new recipes. Sleeping draughts are still pretty popular, go fig. If you used to buy something from one of those shops, I can probably make it now, but stocks are getting limited. I've rebuilt my greenhouse two times since I got here, and I've had it reinforced, so I can grow a few of the magical herbs, but my stock from Utgard's almost dry, so I can only make what I can grow or get from Alfheim.

[She snorted a little sardonic laugh at that. A link was put into the updated potions list available at Pinch. Just below them are the Prices.]

Oh... and since we're all getting back on our feet from having this place remind us how close we are to the final battles... take what the Doctor says to heart. [Her eyes hardened and she frowned.] This isn't over until you're dead. I'll keep brewing this crap to help you guys until the bitter end, and I'm not one to give up even when I should. I am going to stand over that cold-hearted witch's ashes and laugh before they ship us home. Mark my words.

Damage Drainers... really could get a lot of use out of it, if they're careful. It's pricy, but worth it.

Yeah. I asked Ellie to after the last time. Hired someone to reinforce the stupid thing so it didn't crumble this time. Growth won't grow magic herbs, but it saved me the trouble of spending as much time watching the natural ones so I could focus on the special stock.

[He pauses, a little surprised. He hadn't known that, about the herbs.]

They can't? I suppose that makes sense, if they have magical properties.

Yeah. I found it out when I was doing alchemy research a long time back. Since Utgard trade was easy, it wasn't a problem, so I didn't really spread around that I'd learned that. Nobody that can create things can create the magical versions on their own. I even asked someoe to try it when we were boosted briefly. Still, not magical. He could make it look like the stuff, but not actually be the magical version.

I think it's because these things get the magic from what they are and the world around them. We're just making a plant or some ink.

[Merlin nods; her explanation definitely fit. If the plants drew their magic from the earth, there would be little any Traveller could do to mimic that.]

I never even thought of it until now, since it was easier to buy them through Utgard, like you used to. Even after more than a year, you still keep learning things about this world.

It never stops. In my world, or this. There's always something more to learn. Remind me to tell you about the genocide wave one of these days.

[She snorted and then got another message. Her whole body suddenly slackened and she breathed a sigh of relief.]

Thank Oghma. Castiel had an assistant, who's willing to keep the shop open. He can help keep up the stock that Castiel used to make. It means more of his best potions... and I know we'll need them soon.

The more potion makers we have around, the better. If there's anything we've learned from the attacks so far, it's that the healers won't be able to get to everyone.

Who was the assistant? If he's keeping it open, I could speak to him, too.

His name's Roland, according to the icon. I'm talking to him now. I don't think he's that interested in big business, but it's definitely helpful to have more. Sometimes... you get little bits of good news in the oddest places.

[That's relief on his face.] I know him. I'll give him a call after this, I suppose.

[Now he puts the filter up.]

You remember the herbs I told you about? If things are about to get rougher, we should probably really start looking.

Let me know when. I have a feeling things may get dicey, so we want to collect those soon. I could put feelers out with elf contacts if we end up with limited manpower.

That'd be great.

I'm starting to think, with our numbers dropping, and people needed to protect the city from...whatever happens, we should only take a few with us.

I prefer small groups anyway. Less likely to be noticed. Too many, and the odds are better that we'll run into trouble, so we're in agreement there.

Anyone else you think we should bring? There were a few I had in mind, but...most of my friends have been returned to their world now.

Not Eridan, for one. He's got a head for stealth, but he doesn't know when to shut up, and we both know it. [She muttered at that.] Maybe we could get in touch with one of the white-cloaks.

[He isn’t sure who Samantha means by that.]

White Cloaks? They’re a group in the city, or people you met elsewhere?

Desmond's friends. I've seen a couple of them wearing white once in a while. Usually during the fighting, up on the roofs. I don't really have a name for them other than that.

Up on the roofs? [Unusual, but not the first time Merlin's heard of people using the roofs to travel.]

You think they'd really want to help with this?

He at least might. He did help me with a private project not that long ago, so I don't see why he wouldn't.

Private project? You mean—the apple? [If Samantha trusted him with that, then he’s definitely an option.]

Yeah, he was with my little fruit vendor trip. [As usual, all veils, no specifics.] He's competent at dealing with competition.

Great. [Samantha's recommendation is good enough for him.]

Desmond, was it? I'll have to speak with him then, see if he's interested.

I'll bet he is. Give me a call when you're ready to go and we'll be out and back as fast as possible.
