[ in the feed, river can be seen wearing a newly appropriated dress, a nice green and flowing thing that billows out around her legs in a passing breeze. she's standing up somewhere high, the surface rounded and colourful; her ( bare, as always ) toes curl around it to give her balance, and she's staring down at them with wide eyes. ]

Finally found her. She won't stop crying.

[ there's a creak of metal, and river goes to one knee, just in case, braced against a fall that doesn't come. her head tilts curiously and you know what, fuck it. she's just going to lay down completely, one ear pressed to the roof of the carousel in the dark carnival. there are a few natives telling her to come down, as well as a few ghosts hovering nearby; no signs of anyone crying, and river pets her hand across the space beside her head. ]

Shh. Don't be sad. It'll all be over soon.

[ ooc; just a little bit of newbie metaplot for y'all! this is sort of forward dated to later on day 450, so i guess i could've posted it tomorrow but i do what i want, thor. just in case, river's permissions post is here! ]

[ she's just about to ask again, to see if river was still there with her, when she speaks up again. ]

But you know she's crying?

It's everywhere. She hasn't stopped, can't you hear?

[ she's used to people not being able to hear the things she does, but not like this. something's wrong. ]

No, I can't.

[ okay, yes. she's in the right direction. she remembers now. it's suddenly back. ]

Did she just start today?

[ of course she can't. of course, why would she? why would anyone? river shakes her head. ]

All day. It's been all day and she doesn't stop. Can't help her and I want it to stop.

I'll be okay. We'll figure out how to help her.

[ how they're going to do this, she has no idea. ]

Just today?

[ if river had her eyes, she could read the uncertainty, but kate sounds like confidence and it's all river really has to hold on to. ]

Just today. Woke up with her. No funny business.

No funny business, of course. [ she smiles a little, making something of a joke out of it. totally harmless, though. ]

Do you think it happened last night?

[ it was meant as a joke, though river's answering smile is fleeting. difficult to hold onto when she's crying inside. someone ring up linkin park. ]

I don't know. Maybe? They don't come and stay like this, and they don't - they don't get stuck. I don't know how she got stuck.

[ kate can pick up a little of whatever it is river's hiding behind that fleeting smile, but not too much of it. enough for her to worry, for sure. ]

Could she be crying because she can't get free?
