What were your parents like? What are they supposed to be like? What makes for a good mother or father?

I think there is very often a difference in how a family presents itself to others and what it's actually like to be part of it.

I wouldn't know any of it. By the time I came of age there were no families in my world to draw from.

And no books to aid in research?

It wasn't exactly at the top of my priority list. I am only curious now because he is alive.

I suppose that makes sense.

The idea of family, the ideal, I suppose, is to share love, trust and loyalty based on nothing that you've earned but instead something freely given. Unconditional support, simply because you share blood.

It doesn't usually work that way.
