So, a question, fellow Travellers, since it appears to be the done thing. If a scientist were looking for work here, where would you suggest one starts? The last thing I want is boredom setting in, after all.

Teaching... I have to admit, I've never really considered myself a teacher.

I dabble in anything that takes my interest. Cosmology, Quantum mechanics, biology, chemistry, engineering. Whatever takes my fancy on the day.

I'm thinking 'bout experimenting, with the powers. See if we can't make them make sense. Or at least explain them a bit better. ( forcing science on magic seems like a good idea. )

[Kate has been here long enough to know that there are people from other times, other places where magic rules. Science can be so far from what they know, so it tempers her response.]

Someone who seeks knowledge of the world around about them in many forms. Animals, plants, what makes up the world, our place in the stars above. There are many branches of science.

There are similar men in mine own realm. They are called "Maesters", though it would seem that women are also permitted to study such as well as men in your realm.. [ It seemed simple enough, to be sure. ] Do you devote your life and duty solely to your studies, then?

Let me know if you find anything out - though I'm afraid my own skills lean more to the technological side of things, rather than pure science. I've been working at the library, but if a more appropriate job comes up, I certainly wouldn't mind looking into it.

[She recognises the young woman, of course. UNIT's files on Torchwood were extensive, and even if Ms Sato didn't work there, there were her own UNIT files to be aware of. Not that Kate agreed with what had happened to her. One of the things that changed ever since she took over.]

It's been a while since I practised pure science, I have to admit. I'll certainly bear that in mind. It's definitely worth knowing there are other scientists here.

What do you study?

Primarily, alien technology, but I've dabbled in most of the sciences. I tend towards the chemistry side of things, though.

I think the kind of job would depend on what kind of science it is that you know, and what you did with it before.

Well, I'm familiar with many branches, but I don't think there is much use for my actual speciality here.

There isn't an organized lab that I'm aware of. Technology can be really, really persnickity in some parts of the city. But some people work out of their own homes, trying to get around the ambient magic, which seems to want to gremlin it all up.

Well, the only science I've experienced around here is medical science. Know anything about surgery? They can always use more surgeons at the Hospital.

Well, unfortunately medical science is one area which I don't have much expertise in. I'm not sure I'd make a good surgeon.
