Video; One. || Money makes the world go 'round.
[ He's dressed simply, after the foreign fashion of thick sweaters. Two books rest beneath his elbow, forgotten: A Concise History of Firearms, and The Basic Theories of Mendel and Morgan.
The Lannisters have never lacked for wealth, nor has Jaime ever found his trade uncertain. By rights, this ought to wound his dignity, but rights don't buy oats and hay. ]
A clever archer once told me that horses should be understood for a man's ambition.
All men love horses. The rich lord stables herds of champing destriers, the farm child but a single prized pony. There are horses great and horses small, but each eats, and eats, and eats in all. A man too attached to any finds his fortune soon spent, and naught but shit and trampled earth for the trouble.
Droll, if missing the principal purpose of a horse. At any rate, it is the hunger of my palfrey, and not that of my pride which concerns me now.
As droning about here seems the way of things: I seek a posting, with any who lack for the able and willing.
I've no bloody idea what a 'resume' is, but I know the care of arms, armor, beasts of war -- and aye, can read, write, and sum. I've a strong back and stronger stomach; long hours trouble me not.
[ He waves his stump idly. ]
I have ruled out juggling.

Get me one too?

You'd make a fine lady-in-wait -- tell me, which would-be queen would you prefer to serve? There is no shortage. Or no, perhaps that's too base. Steal a crown and stake your own claim.

in actual fact, she hadn't even meant to reply, but bracelets will be bracelets, and fiddling with things will lead to mistakes that are quite hard to back out of, not that she's particularly PC at the best of times. ]
What happened?

[ I lost it for you.
Gods -- she's scarcely recognizable. Not that he'd ever paid the wilder whelp much attention, not until it was far past due, but still the signs are there. That hard, sharp look. The girl has the eyes of an axe. ]

I don't know, my lord, I'm told you made a pretty enough corpse.
[ He grins back, broad and sharp. ]
And look at you now. My sworn brother shall rejoice.
[ Honestly, it could be worse -- he liked Renly well enough before this foolish mess of rebellions, the man was more entertaining than most of court. He was dear once to Loras, to the Maid, and that's enough to hold him back. ]

Everyone can read and write, drop that and add what power you have. There is your resume. Oh, maybe you should clarify how many legs you want on your horse too.

Are all the native beasts here so strangely arranged?

I'll see if anyone I know is looking for help. I was lucky enough to fall into two different sorts of jobs right after arriving, so I'll keep an eye out and an ear open and hope the same sort of luck finds you.
[There's a pause as she hesitates in giving out the offer, but goes through with it anyway.]
Also, not sure if interests you or not, but I have access to the stables at Gefion Park. I should be able to see to it that your horse has proper food up until you're able to provide some for yourself.
video
I'd be grateful for that, Clara; I trust that Honour will be too. You have been well since Alfheim?

But you know what? Missing hand--he'll give in. Not gonna show his face though. ]
It seems your greatest skill has been taken from you. [ He means killing kings, btw. Just gotta look out for the Targaryens, yo. ] What has become of your sword hand?
voice;
Greatest? I lost a hand, not a prick, Ser. [ And he's yet to find Aerys walking the streets. ] What has become of your hair? I recall there being more of it -- or tell me, did Stark try to pull you back by it to justice?

[She's in the library at the moment. It's peaceful and it's away from her room without having to deal with crowds.]
Like the other person said, most people here can read, write and add. [She thinks a moment.] You ever consider a job in management? There are a lot of small shops around here and it's mostly paperwork and keeping things in order. It'll take some weeks of training, but it's still a paying job.
Baring that, there are also teaching positions available at the school.
video
The man saved my life. We raised him to lordliness, instead.
[ And Cersei was a fool to do it. ]
I've commanded armies and guard companies alike, paperwork is the beastly wife of such work; necessary to beget order. I thank you for the suggestion, my lady, and will look into it.

But no, here he is. He knows this man, or he thought he did. This man who guarded his father, this man who he thought he could trust because why would his father choose someone Viserys was not safe around? The man he saw often and knew in that childish way that no matter what problem he might ever have, he could count on Ser Jaime to help him.
And what had he done
what had he done
He debates what to say for a while, debates to say anything at all, runs through all those little speeches he concocted in his head on what would come out of his mouth when he finally got home (there would only ever be one home in his mind). Hundreds. Thousands. Every night a new one, one for the Kingslayer and one for the Usurper. One for Tywin Lannister. One for Eddard Stark.
But mostly, they were reserved for that man who wore a cloak and betrayed everything it stood for.]
You would cast yourself down in order to feed a horse. [Lannister wealth, what good is it doing him now?] You would have done well riding with a khalasar, provided you could prove yourself capable of properly using reins. You might have found admiration among the Dothraki if you could do that and showed this much affection for a horse.
["Handling reins" is a little cruel, and he doesn't want that. Not yet. He'll avoid mention of it for a while.
For as long as he can stay something like calm.
His hands are shaking. Of course. Wriggling fingers and all did not get better in exile.
Such a pity his name doesn't show as it should with all those titles behind it. He wonders what Ser Jaime will see when he spots it. Will he see Viserys Targaryen, will he see The Son Of Aerys?
He knows no one will ever see him as Rhaegar's Brother.
Especially not this one.]
text/private;
He rambles and natters like a man startled, but Jaime has made no secret of his presence here -- under one name or another -- and Viserys has lacked for all but time to prepare. That he is the first to approach says as much.
Frightened. The taste of it should satisfy, but his tongue hangs only heavy with ash. ]
The affection of far-flung barbarians, I'll shed a tear for joy.
No man lowers himself to do what is needed.
[ Blood and honour, both leave stains. Only the holy and young depart this world clean of dirt. The two of them are neither; for all that he remembers the beggar king all in hues of small and snuffling white.
Reins and reigns, a sorry tale. Nearly enough for half another bloody song -- Gods knew the old one was growing tired. ]

Mostly it means that he dreamt of being a singer, but was far too ugly a sot to make any coin at it. Eyes like a frog, and a chin like a trout.
[ Jaime's hand cups over an eye briefly, to demonstrate, then laughs. ]
As to the rest -- that lofty goals, like well-bred horses, are costly things to keep. If you don't know when to cut your losses, or you love the idea of it too much to let go, you'll spend all you have on the damn beast.
But horses are a tool, too, and we need the work they do at pike and at plow. If you sell yours out from under you just to match a bitter, toadly man's idea of virtue, you're only left flat on your holy ass in the mud.
Tempting. Me, I'll take the horse.

Christ. You might need a hand there.
[WOW. Tactful of you, Barnes. But anyway, there's no further comment on that--he's a soldier, after all, he's seen more than his fair share of horrific injuries. So instead he moves on:]
A resume's basically what you tell people you can do so you can get them to hire you, so you've got that area covered already. Far as I know, apparently there's a place where you can train people, but I haven't gotten around to asking about it yet.
[A pause. Then:] And horses? Seriously? I know a lord, and even he doesn't use a horse all that much. [Bucky Barnes, folks, born and bred in New York City.]
Jaime lifts an eyebrow. ]
I suppose that I might ride to battle upon an ass, or a cow. [ But my lady sister has more pressing engagements. ] A terrifying sight to find bearing down upon you, udders swinging in the breeze. Would you recommend it spotted, or roan? Black and white is rather grim.

Fortunately, for you, Asgard doesn't seem too picky for those who likely haven't lifted a finger in her life.
[Because really.
He also gets no sympathy for waving his stump around from Alice.]
video;
Did you listen to aught of it, girl? Or were your feeble wits distracted by the pretty moving pictures?
[ No, Jaime's not feeling much charitable. Not so long after the fact. The message had come as a surprise, and poor timing for the day. ]
