[The thing is, Annie's done this more than once. Waking up and knowing, somehow, that he's gone. It hasn't gotten any easier, but there are no hysterics when she turns on her bracelet. No tears, no raging at the unfairness of it all, only a weary sort of resignation.]

Finnick Odair is... I don't think he's here anymore. I can't find him anywhere, and he isn't in the contact list, so. I thought those who knew him should be told.

I'm so sorry to hear it. Finnick was a darling, really. And one of the first friends I made in the city. [ a beat ] But that means he's gone home, right? Which is good. [ Lily obviously has no idea what he's going home to nope ]

[Oh. Well. This isn't awkward or anything. But if Lily was one of Finnick's friends then she deserves an answer of some kind, so Annie shakes her head.]

[ Allison looks disappointed, to say the least, but she's not going to ask if the other girl's 100% certain. Instead, she'll go with: ]

[If she looks a little confused, well, she's maybe still not used to people actually knowing about their relationship and not using it as leverage against Finnick.]

I was a friend of Finnick's. He mentioned you a few times. [ "Mentioned." "A few times." More like gushed about her. ] I'm sorry he's gone.

Did he? [Teeny-tiny smile, because she can read between the lines there.] I feel like I ought to apologize, he probably bored you to tears.

[ Allison smiles and shakes her head. ] Not at all, actually. It kinda reminded me of someone else I know. [ More precisely how Scott probably used to talk about her all the time. ] It was really cute, seeing how much he adored you.

[He's a little shocked to lose another close friend here, but... well, Minato came back. Ryoji can only hope his disappearance will be temporary.]

You're welcome. I didn't want the news to come from anyone else. [Because it's not that she doesn't love her Panem family, but there's something uniquely (and painfully) personal about it when the departure is your closest loved one.]

Of course. I can understand that. A while ago, I lost one of my closest friends… he came back, but up until that point, it was very painful. I can only hope he comes back as well.

It's bizarre, isn't it? Getting used to the idea that someone being gone is only a momentary thing. There's no real... finality to anything here.

There isn’t… but that also makes it easier not to give up. There’s always the hope that the people we lose will come back.

It's difficult to say whether or not there's a pattern, but some people seem more tied to this place than others. Some people tend to come and go without any memory of this place at all -- some people remember. I wish I could give you a better answer, but Yggdrasil still has mysteries, I guess.

[He knows the answer, he needs her to say it, needs her to remember they have actually been through this together before, he is already in motion to go to her. To show up at her door like she did the last time, he and Finnick took care of the girls; now it would just be him and Peeta instead.
