she's not a battle type of person; but that one was a big one and everyone had fought well, if not a bit desperately. even she'd been in the thick of it and that's not even technically her area of expertise. if she couldn't gather intel here, she might as well fight as a soldier, regardless of her distaste.

there's been something on her mind, however. something else than her usual 'everyone be prepared' and 'something bad is coming'. it's a bit closer to home; a bit more related to her life in asgard and a history back home that she'd rather forget.

today, i have a question for you. answer honestly.

is it morally reprehensible to use a power that means invading someone's privacy? even in the service of what may be considered good?

Good sometimes has fewer boundaries than we do ourselves. Reprehensible? Hardly. But something so sensitive is not wrought without consequences.

when is the cost too high?

Truth told, I tend to prefer a more direct approach, but treason for the sake of the realm--in a manner of speaking--is almost always complicated.

Is the cost worth it, to you?

i don't know.

it may not be treason, but it's complicated.

It is still treason of a sort, laws of the "realm" to abide by or not. From the sound of it, at least; doubtless, you would not be so conflicted otherwise.

But if you cannot be sure, cannot be honest with yourself about it...my only advice is to hold.

I ~~had~~ ~~have~~ ~~had~~ have a friend, if you will excuse toe reaching metaphor, who faced not-dissimilar circumstances once. [As far her vague explanation allows, anyway.] His mistake, among others that I suppose blossomed from the first, was assuming he was and had to act alone.

Advice is not always the easiest thing to ask for, but you're reaching out which is hardly acting alone, especially when you've already admitted these consequences are not only yours to bear.

I can claim no fancy for martyrdom myself, but I am at least familiar with taking necessary risks, even if they're not terribly popular choices. That self awareness makes all the difference.

[And when that self-awareness of involving others and the consequences for doing so is absent...well. You get a whole different brand of "martydom." ~~And sometimes a smiling villain.~~]
