text ϟ D367 (pre-quake)
Hello, everyone; I hope you're all keeping safe after the rescue mission and everything that happened before that. If there's anything I can do to help anyone please let me know.
I was actually hoping to ask for a little help from everyone here. I'm planning on taking up the position of teaching the History of Magic once Professor Snape has the school up and running and the schedules working out, so I was wondering if there was anyone who'd like the history of their world taught during their classes. I've written up a rough guideline for the class as it stands, based on the history of my own world, but I think it would be even more fascinating with a greater world view.
If anyone has anything they want to add to the courses please let me know!

[ PRIVATE TO REMUS LUPIN ]
Remus, I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be with it, but... Would you, perhaps, be willing to help me with the werewolf culture course? I'd really like to open up a debate about how unfair the wizarding world is with regards to the treatment of werewolves and it wouldn't be right to teach the course without actually asking someone with experience.[ / END PRIVATE ]
action.
You look simply exhausted. Are you sure you shouldn't be sleeping?
action.
Perfectly all right. It's just been a long, ah, transition here. That's all.
action.
[ Squeezing his arm, she drops her hand and takes a deep breath. ]
Are you sure you're okay with this?
action.
[He rubs his face, tiredly, and gives her a smile.]
Truly. I wouldn't do it if I didn't want to. What sorts of things were you hoping to teach, exactly-- I mean, I can give you a, a personal account of my life, sort of, or--
action.
Remus, please. Whatever you're okay with telling me. I'd like to know your experience of the Ministry's laws and - and what you'd change, if you could.
action.
A deep breath-- and then, steadily:]
For starters, laws forbidding children to go to school. Vampiric children, werewolf children, anything-- it's foolish at best and damning at worst; without an education, magical children will grow up not knowing how to control their powers, reacting to things purely out of emotion, fearful of their own magic. Never mind the fact they won't be able to get a job-- which is another thing; legally I can still be fired for being a werewolf, which, as you can imagine, makes each job last about a month.
action.
It's radically unfair. It's not something that any of you can control - even if there are means of making it better. The Ministry should provide a system of Wolfsbane prescriptions or something. In the muggle world if someone has a problem they can't deal with, medically, on their own they are given help - they're not damned. It's insufferable.
[ She takes a deep breath and relaxes; she doesn't want to offend, but this - all of this - is something she's very passionate about. ]
I'm sorry, I shouldn't - go on, please.
action.
Education, too. I don't know what you were taught, but . . . the lessons we learned on any creature were horrible. Biased is hardly the worst of it; some of the information was plain wrong. And very much encouraging hatred and fear, rather than understanding.
action.
[ She nods her head, shifting a little, awkwardly. ]
I tried to do independent research when I realised what you were and... All the books were awful. It wasn't fair and I - I knew that's why it was a secret. That no one knew, except for your friends and Professor Dumbledore.
action.
[He says that with a dry sort of smile-- but that soon fades, because he remembers something.]
You didn't tell me I almost killed you, Hermione.
action.
[ She shakes her head. ]
Moony did, and that had more to do with the fact that you hadn't taken your Wolfsbane and the fact that you turned during a rather awful situation. You felt threatened so you lashed out.
action.
[He raises an eyebrow.]
Right here, right now, if I changed, I'd go for your throat. That isn't a lie. We are dangerous, Hermione. And Moony and I, we're both the same. I almost killed you.
action.
[ She stares at him, absolutely determined. ]
It isn't your fault that Moony is difficult to control and it's certainly not something that you should be discriminated against for! There are ways of helping you control that side of you and it should be given to you, no matter what. I don't care what anyone else thinks, Remus, you're my friend and I am going to stand by you.
action.
[He pushes his wrist against his mouth, his eyes closing for a moment.]
It was pure luck I kept my mind when I transformed in that mirror world. And god forbid I get out the next time I transform-- I have to know you understand the realities of just how deadly I can be. Please. I just-- I need to know you know that when I'm Moony, I'm not your friend. I'm your enemy.
action.
[ She reaches over and takes his hand, quickly, squeezing it. ]
I am a smart woman and I know how dangerous werewolves are. I took down Fenrir Greyback, alright? I've seen Moony and I know how frightening he is. But that doesn't mean I am going to be blind to the fact that he's still a part of you. I'm not going to act like an idiot but I'm not going to treat you any differently because of it - at least when you're human. I've got enough sense to stay far away from you during the full moon.
action.
I'd just . . . hate to see you get hurt because of me.
action.
[ Her expression softens and she leans closer. ]
Trust me, alright?
action.
[A small smile.]
Now. I believe we've strayed a bit off topic, hm?
action.
[ Hermione's expression softens and she brings her hand back. ]
I was wondering what you thought was most important to change first. I mean, I think that Wolfsbane should be offered to all werewolves by the Ministry free of charge, but...
action.
action.
[ She smiles, nodding her head and settling in her chair. ]
There also needs to be reform in schools. Students need to be given an unbiased account of werewolves - it's not fair that the only things we learn about them are entirely negative.
action.
[He rubs the back of his mouth with a wrist.]
Which we can start here. Let's begin by dispelling the myth we crave human flesh-- we're carnivores, yes, but not for humans, particularly.
action.
[ She knows of the connection and her expression softens a little before she licks her lips. ]
People like you - or Bill, who have inherited werewolf traits - have never acted like that. It's a disgusting stereotype that needs to be put to rest.
