[The world fell back into focus rather suddenly and River finds herself dropping to her knees with the feeling of the world overwhelming her.

She takes a few sharp breaths, and her hands are shaking a little as she fiddles around with the bracelet, trying to get it to turn on again.]

The world went out of focus. [She sounds apologetic and a little scared.] Blurry and cold. Everything fit right but the world was wrong. Found a place in a different puzzle, the one next to this one.

[Her hands are shaking little and she looks around her, uncertain of what to do now. Of what she's missed and how to slip back into the new old world she's found herself in again.]

[ She winces at that, struggling for a moment in her attempt to figure out how to respond to that. ]

No. Nooo, you shouldn't have stayed fading. You're much better when you're you, I promise. Can you talk to me when you're feeling a little better?

[She nods her head, forcing a smile but it is obviously cracked at the edges.] Want to, just gotta see when 'better' happens.

Better is gonna happen, though. Cross my heart, River.

[ She's been there - braceletless. She understands. ]

[She nods and the smile becomes a bit more sincere. It's easier to believe when other people are doing it too. She may not have her old abilities but he can still empathize.] Someone has to have faith when everyone else is running dry.

Or someone has to pretend to at least, right?

[ The hint of sincerity that Jade can see is a relief. ]

Do you like dogs?

[littlesoul]

[It makes her laugh, if not a little sadly]

Got nothing against them. Never really met many before.

[littlesoul]

[She looks puzzled for a moment, then smiles almost shyly.] Did you get dogs?

I have two dogs!

[littlesoul]

[That makes her smile widen a little as she speaks.] If they're yours, he'll like them.

Soon, then. Be safe, River, okay?

[littlesoul]

She will.

[A proper smile, just for you, Jade.] You keep safe, for your dogs if nothing else.

[nukeoleptic]

I have lots of things to keep safe for, River.

[ But the proper smile makes her face light up like Christmas. ]
