Marigold and I are going to paint and clean up the graffiti a-and everything. [She almost said blood again but refrained. She doesn't know what else to do. She doesn't know how else to help except in a way she knows best.]

Would... anyone else like to help? I-If not that's perfectly fine.

[The TARDIS comes to find her brave little girl when she hears this. She kneels in front of her and brushes Alice's hair back away from her face, smiling gently at her.]

[Alice was in the backyard, in the garden, not wanting to be in the house. She would stay outside as soon as she woke and not go inside until it was time to sleep. The house is uneasy, the... everything is uneasy and it makes her nervous. Two plates and a bowl already suffered from her shaking, uneasy hands. So when the Tardis found her (as if her mother couldn't always find her) she merely nodded.]

I... I was thinking... if-if it couldn't see so much of it... they wouldn't... be as uneasy.

[Sandy has seen a lot of children cope with disasters. He's seen them dance with each other over mass graves, celebrating that they're still alive. He's seen them grow grim and grow up too fast, taking on the responsibilities of dead parents to provide for others. He's seen some throw themselves into rivers or cry on their pillows or crack jokes as they loaded rotting bodies on wheelbarrows. He's seen them grieve, laugh, work, and play.

Alice is an interesting case. She didn't grow up with this war or come into it organically. She was pulled from her family and put into this without warning, without proper context. Does she know how she wants to cope?

He doesn't know, but either way, it isn't his place to tell her how to deal with the violence she's been thrust into. He's just glad that most of the bodies and dismembered pieces had been cleared away by the time she came along.

He turns on the video brandishing a sketchpad picturing a map of the city. His sleeves are hiked up to his elbows and his hands are sudsy, blood and soap at his feet. He taps a particular part of Freyr, the place where he is. He'd welcome help cleaning and painting, and poor Freyr had been especially hit by all this.]

[Oh Sandy. Alice may not be a child who grew up in war, she may not be someone who copes by dancing on graves or cracking jokes. But she is resilient, as all children are. War breaks some and bends others. Alice, the little mad thing she is, bends. She knows she can do something. And so long as she can do something, so long as she can be of some use then she will continue to bend, not break.

A mad mind may perceive things differently, but a whole heart is still the same. She hates seeing Sandy still with so much blood. Would there ever be a day when there wouldn't be blood near or on him?]

[Moran aside, Jamie isn't about to let Alice paint the town by herself. But he's got to find her first, so once things are sorted with him (and he's cooled down a little), he starts looking through the house to see if he can find her.]

[Alice is outside in the garden, always feeling uneasy when she's in the house. They already lost two plates and a bowl to her shaking hands. So she's outside, every day from waking to sleep.

She looks up when Jamie calls her.]

I don't know what squeamish means. [Although she had to wonder if it meant something to do with blood because the gentleman then proceeded to talk about it more.]

I ah... well, if someone wanted to, I wouldn't... really stop them. [Because Alice didn't want to think about who the blood belonged to as she cleaned it from walls and cobblestone. Her mind would wonder and wander. Who had gotten hurt. Who had been possessed to do such an awful thing, not knowing what was going on only to see it later? She swallowed.] But it does need to be cleaned.
