017 - Video

[Have a slightly annoyed looking Samantha, seated behind the counter at Pinch of Sage. Her left arm is in a sling and there's a bandage over her cheek and over part of her neck. She grunts sourly and narrows her eyes a little before addressing the camera.]

Well, we're back from Svartalfaheim. I don't know how much progress we actually made up there, but we did bring at least a few weapons back from them, though mostly personal gear.

It seems like if you're wanting to work with the Dwarves, they'll work with you, but it's all deal by deal basis, trade for trade. They don't really want anything more permanent than that. However, they're definitely not turning their noses up at the gold and the workmanship... well, just ask anyone who came back. Someone might look into mounting another expedition in a couple months to try and set up some more trade.

I see things are nice and quiet around here right now. [Her eyes narrow just one more fraction. She wasn't sure if they were being kept out of the mission or if Odin had just used them as bait to keep attention elsewhere. Oddly? She wouldn't have minded the latter that much.] Anyone needs me, we're back up and running here at Pinch. Odin, Fenrir? If either of you wants more details, stop by or drop me a line.

Died five times in my world that I remember, and I can tell you for absolute certain that, yes. Your brain does work for a few seconds after a guillotine's cut your head off. Just a heads up, though, in case you get curious...

It hurts like you would not believe. Phantom limb with your whole body is a sort of hell I wouldn't suggest to anyone. Makes drowning almost mild in comparison, even if that takes longer to kill you.

Know this man back home who lost his leg. Talks about phantom pains sometimes. How'd you keep comin' back after you died?

Short version. I have some serious daddy issues. He's got reasons that he brings me back, and I have an idea what it's about, but that's not something I want to talk about.

Thankfully, much as I hate the idea of coming back from the dead like that, he doesn't have any say here.

It's alright, I understand not wantin' to talk about some things. But you come back from the dead with all your memories, a personality, thoughts and feelings, all the things that make you you. Right?

Everything. The good and the bad. He made sure of it. Not exactly a pleasant way to wake up, remembering how you just died.

Yeah, I can see how that's true. Sad that you had to go through that. Honestly I wouldn't wish wakin' up from death on anyone. Seems better to wake up with what makes you you in tact instead of the alternative. So you got that in your favor.

In a way, it's one of the cruelest tortures I can imagine. On the one hand? I use it. I'm not dead, so I can still keep trying. But, on the other hand, it breaks you a little inside.

I'm not sure what's worse anymore, oblivion or the cycle, but it doesn't matter here. They're a crapload kinder about the process here than he was. I don't care for it, but they've brought friends back, and they've been... good to them at times. So, I forgive them.

See that's good, turnin' a negative into a positive like that. Sure it comes with a weight on your shoulders but usin't it to keep fightin'.... seems that's the best you can do with it.

They bring people back from the dead here? All their memories in tact?

There's no real weight, just unpleasantness and pain. But it means I have one more chance to wrap my fingers around that son of a bitch's throat.

Think if it were gonna happen, I'd just prefer a bullet in the brain, quick end to it all. No comin' back. [He is infected, after all. He comes back, it's as something they'll have to kill anyway.]

Trust me. I've seen vengeance gone crazy. Doesn't matter, though. I'd be doing the world a public service, ridding it of that piece of demonic trash.

And yeah, fast is almost always better than slow. Not coming back... sometimes I think that'd be better too.

[He can't really talk. He'd recently thought the same of the man known as The Governor back home, minus the demonic, of course. He knew what it was like to kill to survive. Thank god no. The last thing you guys need to deal with is Valefar, Duke of Thieves, or whatever idiotic title that bastard wants to use right now. I did run into Satan though... from another world I think, but Satan all the same.

Satan, huh? [He probably shouldn't find that as amusing as he does. But it makes sense that the devil would be the one to show himself even here rather than the alternative. He's pretty sure the alternative doesn't listen to anyone anymore.]

Nah, family's complicated. Can't say I've met a family yet that don't have some kind of mess brewin' in between 'em all. Though yours seems pretty unique.

Mine was a wife who had feelin's for my best friend. Can't say it was all her fault though. I was in a coma and he was a good enough man once upon a time.

Well dressed man in his middle years, supremely confident. Black, feathered wings on his back. Smooth as silk, little oily. Kind of like the super socialite of the upper crust. If you didn't see the wings, you'd swear he was just some politician.

Ugh. Honestly, I don't really do well with romance myself. The whole succubus side really makes it a mess so condolences there. It's a miracle that it's worked out at all for me here.

well, they're basically sexual predators that feed off of the life of people in the middle of ... things, who after tempting them to as much vice as they can get away with usually kill them and send them screaming to hell.

...So... yeah, being half that... not exactly good for stable romantic life.

I can see how that'd get in the way of a healthy relationship... if there actually is any such thing. But what did you mean by it bein' a miracle that it's worked out for you here? You mean you haven't killed anyone?

Trolls are strange. They have antagonistic relationships that are more like rivalries. It... well, it's worked more or less stably for me. Not completely safe, but they're really violent to begin with. I've been in a relationship with one for a few months.

But no, I can't actually say I haven't killed anyone here.

Can't say I've ever seen a troll, not yet anyway. Probably just a matter of time.
