I used to run a blog back home. A journal of a sort, for those out there who don't know what a blog is. It's sort of second nature to think about how to write about something while it's happening, but the problem here is that there hasn't exactly been much worth writing about. It's a good way of keeping notes, though, so I might as well give it a go.

I'm Dr. John Watson. No, not the one with the moustache who runs that clinic, although he's apparently some sort of... alternate universe version of me? That's one thing that's really worth making note of, at least.

It's really quiet around these parts, isn't it? I've been here for over two weeks now and there's just been nothing. Well, aside from a bit of a row down at a pub and the "gods" deciding to host some sort of competition, and a tournament. I can't say I've ever really been very interested in watching people fight, so I didn't really take notice of that. Good for those who find that fun, though. Lucky bastards.

Okay, maybe two weeks isn't really that long, but I'm used to excitement a bit more frequently than this.

You know, the problem is that I don't really believe in any of these things. Gods, travel between universes, alternate universes, magic, all of that. That's for fiction, it's not real. Yet here it all is in front of my eyes. I'm still partly waiting for it to come out as some sort of sick prank.

But going on the assumption that it's not. This war, what can you people tell me about it? Conan, I was told you might know something about people keeping records?

There might at least be some use I can make of myself. I've seen my own share of it. War, I mean.

[ That gets a decent smile in return and he shakes his head. ]

How are their troops? And ours, for that matter.

Ours are ... sporadic, in ability and number both. With half of the city gray and a finite number of Travellers able and willing, we relied largely on the troops of our allies in the neighbouring kingdoms. Together, we held strong, but the Giants' numbers were still greater than our own.

Amongst them, varying creatures of an elemental nature. There were those rooted in fire or ice, as well as human-esque creatures that followed under their lead. They relied more on brute strength than cohesion, however. Loyalty wasn't exactly prevalent in the ranks.

As for now, though - [ Arthur gives a noncommittal shrug ] - there's no saying. Considerable damage was dealt to both sides. We've spent the past month or so recovering.

Yeah, the gods aren't very helpful on that front, are they?

In the recovery? Not insofar as we've seen. Lord only knows what they get up to in the palace when we're not looking.

[ That gets a snort and a quick laughter from him, because it sounds utterly... ridiculous. And maybe a little dirty. ]

I meant overall. With the unreliable forces. If they're planning to help in some other way, it would be nice to know.

[ omg john what are we, twelve?

wait no don't answer that. ]

Oh, they're hardly unreliable. You should have seen the battle, it was ... beyond anything I could've dreamt up myself, certainly. Though being more informed would hardly go amiss.

[ Yes we are. ]

It's not so wise to send people back and forth like they are if they want us to fight a war.

It's hardly quite so simple. We've been led to believe it's through no fault of their own but rather the temperamental nature of the magic what bings us here.

Oh, is that the excuse.

[ There might be the slightest roll of his eyes. N o t going to take the word of kidnapping gods to heart. ]

[ Arthur's lips quirk in the slightest bit of amusement. ]

When you've been here as long as I have, Doctor, it is not quite so easy to dismiss.

No? Why not?

I have seen too much transpire beyond anything I might fathom in any realm of logic. Magic is a frighteningly complicated thing.

[ He pinches the bridge of his nose. ]

But we still technically only have their word.

[ Arthur regards him quietly, then exhales softly. ]

You will have far more, in time. I should hope to hear your thoughts again then, John Watson.

[ Sure they will. ]
