[Hugo has fiddled enough and seen enough to know a little of how to use his bracelet, though not enough to text. Not like it matters much here anyway, no station inspector will be barreling down upon him with his hellhound of a dog if he be discovered, but even so he keeps the focus mostly away from his face and his head down so his shaggy bangs cover a lot of his ash-dirtied cheeks. It's habit and it allows only glimpses of his serious expression as he toys with small pieces of metal in front of him]

I need things. Gears and wires...pieces of metal.

[He digs two dusty fingers roughly into his pocket and drops a few examples onto the table in front of him]

I don't have money, but I'll work for them if I need to.

[He'll steal it if it comes to that. He pauses to regard a small spring]

I am confident that I have a few things that would fall under this description. You have no concrete idea as to what to make yet?

Maybe a clock or a train. I didn't know what I would have to work with yet.

Could you tell me more about trains? I must admit that I have never seen such a thing.

You've never seen a train?

Why else would I ask? It is not pleasant to admit to ignorance.

Well... [How to describe a train to someone. He's spent months in company with them, living among them at the Gare de Paris that it's almost impossible to simply describe them.]

They're big. And metal. And they've got lots of wheels and run on steam and coal. They take people places.

Would it not be too heavy to move, if it were made of metal? I know that such attempts have been made with ships, but they never worked out.

( just be happy that you don't have to explain what ~Paris~ is to him. he'd ask that, too )

But ships do work.

And so do the trains.

There are no ships that are entirely wrought out of iron, as far as I know. It is not a concept that can be applied to reality.

They exist where I come from. They run on coal and steam...like the trains. They cross entire oceans and carry loads of people.

You would not happen to know how they manage to do that? I wonder if I could find a book in the library concerning this topic...

[He frowns, thinking how to explain it or if he even could.]

That would naturally put me in a situation where I am required to bring you the necessary parts. Have you ever seen the ships that are kept in bottles? I size like this might be manageable.

[There's a shake of his head]

That is much too small. The gears would never work.

[Then adds a gesture with his hands, indicating something midsized, perhaps the length of a book]

You sound like you know what you are talking about. However, it seems to require quite a few things at once - it might be a better idea to take you to the shops and look for whatever you need? The financial aspect shall not concern you.

[He gives a nod, he knows what it will take to get one up and running, then frowns]

As I said, this is not for you to be concerned about. I am the one asking a favour of you, it only makes sense that I pay for the required materials.

I merely need to know when you can find the time to accompany me.

[Hugo's eyes go a bit wide when it sinks in but after a moment he sets down his gears]
