I have been... absent, for some time. What little I remember, the outcome of Asgard's battle looked bleak. It seems that this was overcome. What else have I missed?

He really isn't sure what to say, so it takes him awhile to respond. ]

Then we should speak. [ You can practically hear his teeth grinding. ]

Those bracelets are a pain in the ass, aren't they?

Freyr's dead, though, and Freya's pissed at us about it.

We cannot dictate the actions of others. [ Basically Freya can eat it in his opinion. ]

I haven't been here a day and the paper they gave us specifically states not to take off the bracelet. Are you some sort of idiot?

I was aware of the risks. A battle was raging, the bracelet was not my first priority.

[ there was a certain emotion Darim was expecting to feel the first time he saw his father, what was that emotion again? oh yes, relief. but that's not the emotion he feels now. actually, what he feels is sick. very, very sick.

that is not the face of a 60 year old man as it should have been. that is the face of someone who is much, much younger. he almost wants to think that maybe this isn't his father, maybe this is just someone who looks very much like his father did when he was a child (although younger looking than even that), but he is no fool. he knows that as much as he wants to think that, to convince himself that this is not his father, to do so would be foolish. he would only hurt himself more in the end by doing so.

he does hold on to the foolish hope that Altaïr will know him, though. maybe he would only know a newborn version of Darim, but even if it's only that at least it would be something. because if Altaïr doesn't know Darim at all, Darim will have lost the only remaining person that he truly cares about. ]

And the bracelet-- the bracelet had something to do with your absence? [ his voice isn't as strong as he'd like it to be, but he can't muster up the energy for anything else right now. not when he's so nervous. ]

[ There was something about the other that Altaïr simply just could not quite manage to place. Something in his features, some strange sense of familiarity that he could not understand. He was certain he had never seen this man in his life- yet he could not shake the nagging feeling that there was something here... ]

The removal of ones bracelet causes one to become like the grey-faced people that populate this world.

[ His answer is short, and precise. But all the while he is studying the other's face intently, wanting to be absolutely sure that he can say he does not know him. ]

I was recently warned about the dangers of losing those bracelets. As some one who has experienced it, could you tell me what it was like? What actually happened when you lost it?

I remember very little after the bracelets removal. My bracelet was returned to me by a city guard.

As it was informed to me, I became one of the faceless people that populate this world. Grey, and colourless until it was returned to me by a guard. As for the actions I may have taken- I have no memory of this. My time after the bracelet was removed is lost to me.

I thought you had gone for good. [Whether he did or didn't hope for that to be the case is anyone's guess.]

[ Inwardly, Altaïr groans, because talk about the last person he wants to hear a lecture from, seriously. ]

You were clear, Malik. [ There's an edge to his tone- though he's trying valiantly to keep it under control- to act humbled, because of everyone here it is Malik who deserves this respect first and foremost. ]

In the heat of battle I must have-- misplaced it.

[ Not quite the truth, but not quite a lie, either. ]

And who are you? [ The demand is short, and clipped. He has no time for pointless ridicule, but perhaps she has other, more important and interesting information that he can glean.
