10th Spark || [Fail anon text] + action for Odin library

[There's a question that's been on his mind ever since Morgana started changing, and it's only been growing since Mordred appeared and Regina confronted him. Then the whole mess with Freyr and Freya, and Arthur's trip home...it's enough to make anyone--mainly Merlin--start questioning himself. Enough to make him approach the bracelet network for opinions.

It's just too bad Sam never taught him how to hide his identity on the network properly like he taught him how to use filters.]

What does destiny mean to you? Do you think your future is set in stone or do you think things can be changed?

Action for later:
[It's been some time since Conan first helped him hide the library's books on Arthurian lore as a favour, and the library's somehow regained a small collection. Anyone in the building can probably spot Merlin glancing furtively around before purposely re-shelving the a book in the completely wrong section of the library. It's incredibly conspicuous, especially with the white dragon perched on his shoulder, but Merlin doesn't seem to notice the odd looks he's getting from some of the nearby Natives.

Rinse and repeat until the small stack is scattered across the massive building.]

I don't really think too hard about that kind of thing. If you do, it's just harmful in the long run. It's better to just do what you want instead of wondering if you're following a set path or not.

[She can read well enough what he says, though she doesn't understand how he does it himself, so she opts for the video function which she's learning on her own.]

There is no way to tell the future. Unless you have the ability to do so. Others will try and steal your future from you anyway, if you're not careful. If you can do something by your own hands, that's better than any 'future' some entity could decide for you.

[Living her whole life being told she would be married to some lord and made to bear his children instead of living up to the glory she dreamed of made her stubborn about things like that. She also knew how quickly the future could be ripped out from under your feet.]

[ You are so extraordinarily transparent, Merlin. Even if Merlin were capable of handling anything more complicated than the on button of the TV remote, this post would've been glaringly obvious. When he sees the post go up, Arthur's amused and exasperated for the idiot, but there's also a certain measure of weariness and something akin to guilt. He knows he's been short since his return, a bit more distant and quick to snap when his cheerful facade starts slipping.

It hasn't been easy.

Not for lack of trying, because he is, but he is so very tired of always have to try. The uncertainties and bitterness are tangible things in his chest some days, and the moments where he loses his footing are the same still when he has to question if the person that tries to catch him will come with a knife in hand. He has to question why he needs catching at all. It's all frustrating, and Arthur is so very good at taking out his frustrations on others. Merlin just happens to be the closest person to him, always, no matter when or where they are.

Which is why the King doesn't bother with responding to the illuminating text, but immediately skips off to find his servant instead. He checks the hospital first, both because Merlin has been spending a great deal of time there lately and because Arthur hasn't bothered to learn his schedule even after all this time. Following that, it's off to the house (and he doesn't check Morgana's room, doesn't ask if she knows where Merlin is), and when he can't find him there, Arthur heads to the only other place he knows Merlin holes himself up.

As Merlin is setting one of the books onto the shelf, a hand will shoot out from behind him to pull it back off. Arthur gives the cover a wary glance before leafing through the pages idly. ]

Do you suppose it'll speak of that time you caught my night shift on fire and roused half the castle into believing the heir had just been killed by his idiot manservant?

Fate and destiny exist, in my world, but despite what was originally believed, they are not inevitable ends. Some outcomes, those believed to be fated to occur, are simply those with the highest probability; everything is tipped in favor of their happening.

However, with sufficient will even the most likely fates can be averted. We did it in our world.

Ah, destiny! A fascinating topic, really. One long disputed through history, ingraining itself--in one way or another--into the many different cultures of the world. Both fate and destiny were among the more widely accepted beliefs, up until the more recent centuries when they were shoved to the side for more a more...modern view on the matter.

Now personally, while I might go on about something being my destiny, I tend to lean more towards believing we're all the masters of our futures. It would be a bit depressing otherwise, don't you think?

Rather than "fate" or "destiny" I believe what happens is due to a consequence of a choice.

But there are somethings, maybe out of a need, that exist simply because they do. Maybe that is "destiny".

I think... some parts are set. Like, I'm always gonna be tɫó•kᵂali, you know? I can't change that.

But... [and this is where it gets sticky, for him.] There are some parts that are up to me, too. Like what I fight for, when I have to fight. Who I ally with when I have to choose sides. That kind of thing. That's not set in stone, to me.

I guess it sort of depends!
8ack home, everything was dict8ed by f8. If you saw it that way, at least!
To devi8 from the alpha timeline was to ensure your own death. A8solutely everything had to happen the way it all happened. Any attempt to go off course just meant a doomed timeline and a pro8a8ly crappy death.
I guess you could say there were infinite possi8ilities, 8ut only one actual path?
Something like that.
8ut Skaia doesn't make the rules here! So who knows. May8e it's different now! In fact, it pro8a8ly is.
And anyway, if you 8elieve that destiny and f8 aren't the same thing........
Uh, actually, never mind. Why the question, anyway?
