Travelers associated with Heimdall are granted either Energy Lending or Damage Drain. It should have been explained to you upon arrival, but at times it is missed in the information given.

The easiest way is to test. Damage drain at your level is not particularly dangerous, and another user of it will likely agree to allow you to attempt draining a minor wound. Energy Lending can be tested on a volunteer as well, though it is more difficult to notice the effects of.

The current theory is that they are designed to provoke as much raw emotion of whatever form from us as possible -- though given that the gods last action was to appoint watch leaders, they might be relaxing on that front and gearing up towards the war.
