Asgard. I thought this place only existed in religion. And if religion is an idea, wouldn't that make Asgard an idea too?
[ Sure, it's an overly simplistic explanation of a complex topic but since it's a topic he knows so little about, it's best to keep it simple ]
Unless there's something I missed. [ A brief pause, as though he's genuinely perplexed by the whole idea.
Spoiler: He is ] Your gods. I've heard a lot about them. Do they exist any more than the other divine beings? Or are they just something that we need to put our faith in? Like the Easter Bunny.
...I'm just wondering.
[ He's passing it off as no big deal. Just questions. No reason behind asking them. It's not like it's because of this supposed divine being that he found himself in the shit heap he was in just before showing up here. The very one that has him a little on edge currently.
As for the actual being in Asgard? Well ]
I don't suppose my money is any good here...
[ He's distraught on the inside. I swear ]

Television. TV can do it pretty well.
no subject
No, although I understand the confusion. Televisions were very difficult for me to understand as well. [So have all the sympathy there] Television only shows an image, pre-recorded. Here we all left our homes behind.
no subject
Actually, there's live television too.
no subject
...is there? That would make these broadcasts a form of...television then?
no subject
I think you need an actual television to make something a form of television.
no subject
...in any case, from what I understood at least, television does not take you out of your own world. Is that correct?
no subject
That's usually why people watch television. Escaping their own reality, one hour at a time.
[ ...that's what Lancelot totally means, right? ]
no subject
...so a television can serve as a portal between worlds?
[He has been mislead! Perhaps a television could get him home, if only he'll find the right channel!]
no subject
...what?
[ Deceptive Dexter strikes again. Only this time, it's unintentional ]
no subject
Oh. It seems a misunderstanding has occurred. He tries to rethink what was earlier said. But no, he still sees no other way to understand it.]
Is that not what you meant when you said people escape their own lives using them?
no subject
Okay so Dexter isn't sure what went so wrong, here ]
Uh, sure. Though I'm not exactly an expert on televisions. I barely even watch them.
no subject
[He's not sure what's happening here, but that is one thing he needs to make clear.]
no subject
...and this is mildly exasperated Dexter ]
Would you feel better if I said yes?
no subject
I only wish to understand, televisions do not exist where I am from, nor do devices like these bracelets.
no subject
A television is just the box. It has a video feed similar to this bracelet though.
no subject
[Why did you say it was?]
no subject
...Like I said, TVs aren't my field of expertise. I'm just the blood guy.
[ He just wants this portion of the conversation to end ]
no subject
[Do you like this portion of the conversation any better?]
no subject
Dexter pauses a moment. That excuse works better at home ]
I analyze blood spatter patterns. At home. [ Another pause ] It's my job.
no subject
Analyze them? How? What for? [Blood is blood, you wait for it to sip into the earth so you will no longer be forced to see it.]
no subject
Dexter's fond of blood ]
How? Studying the blood, trying to recreate the patterns. It's to determine things about the attacker the rest of the crime scene wouldn't really reveal. [ ... ] I work in homicide. [ You know what that is, don't you? ]
no subject
Work in homicide? [That would sound horrible to him, if he didn't know Kate.] As in...police? There are many of your profession around then I am certain they could help you find work.
no subject
Well, I work with the police. In the homicide department. I have a lab. And a laminate. [ Sob no one cares about a laminate ] So there's a police force here?
[ Tell me more... ]
no subject
I know not what a lab or a laminate is but - yes. You might wish to speak to Kate Beckett, I believe she might be able to help you.
no subject
It's where I run my tests to find out what I need to know about the blood. [ Don't worry about the rest ] Kate Beckett? She's on the police force? [ Are we finally on the same page again? ]
