( Alayne fiddles with the bracelet around her wrist for a moment before speaking - she's hesitant about addressing the whole of a city that she cannot see. After all, it's dangerous to be Sansa Stark these days, now that she's a traitor accused of regicide. But amongst the midst of all these voices, it's unlikely that hers will be recognized ( or so she thinks, as she does not know details of the network yet ). She is Alayne now, not Sansa. They will not know her. Lies and arbor gold, Alayne thinks. No one takes notice of a bastard girl. )

Gods of Asgard, I wanted to thank you for choosing me for such an important task. This is an honour that I did not expect. But I must think of my lord father - he worries so, and I wouldn't want him to fret. I'm only a young girl - surely someone more gallant should be chosen for a deed like this.

If it please you, I would ask that you send me back to him.

( but alayne doesn't expect much: no one gets what they want without a price. all she can do is ask. )

[His tone is vaguely impatient--the sound of someone who's heard this sort of thing before. It's also resigned--the sound of someone who's pretty much given up on getting back any time soon.]

( it sounds like a chastisement, alayne thinks. she is used to the gods not answering her - how long had sansa waited, in king's landing? how many times had she prayed? perhaps petyr's machinations of a rescue could be the gods taking mercy on her. she almost does not expect them to answer, nor to take any notice of her. but that small, glimmering hope is still there as long as they exist at all. )

I saw no harm in making a request, ser.

Usually there isn't. [There's just the slightest bit of emphasis on "usually" that implies that consequences aren't unheard of.] Just don't get your hopes up either; they basically do whatever they want.

( gods usually do. but that sounds terrible - it sounds like doubt, and alayne quickly shoves that thought away. it isn't right for her to think such things. )

You just got here, right? They don't tell you all the reasons you're here when you show up. [He's bitter.] I guess they figure we'll behave better if they don't.

( he's bitter, and it shows even through his voice, and she wants to ask if they've mistreated him. it's a personal question, though, and perhaps it would not be kind of her to ask.

but she has to know what she's walked into, here. so alayne proceeds gently, almost timidly: )

[This place, as far as he's concerned, has done little except take from him--the most recent and sorest spot being the loss of his older brother. But he's convinced himself he's fine even as the only member of his family here, and he won't allow himself to think otherwise consciously. There's plenty more reasons to dislike this place anyway.]

They're only using us to bring their city back, so they make us react to things to use emotions to convert the city. It used to be all grey when they started, but not anymore.

And there's the war. They don't tell you that part right away, but they expect all of us to defend the city.

And what about those of us who cannot bear arms?

Everyone gets one--they're different based on which god's house you were put in. Each house has two.

And those of Freya's house? What blessings does she give to them?

As the goddess of beauty, I suppose it...makes sense.
