3rd Judgement ~ [Video]

[While Uther holds his back straight and chin held high - because he is king and whatever he can keep of that he'll take - he looks fairly worse for wear with slight bags under his eyes and obvious exhaustion despite his posture. It's been rough ever since he came here, but even more so recently, and sleep and rest is are very elusive things.

But despite how tired he is, he's relied on Arthur's support for too long and, honestly, he's not sure he can convince himself he even deserves that loyalty so much anymore. That's why he's addressing the network.

He almost feels a little awkward, but he doesn't show it.]

How does one go about.. finding a job?

[It's probably less about it being a new world so how should he know how it works and more about him not having had to look for one, ever.]

((OOC: I'm going to go on a slowatus from tomorrow until the 9th August oops so this isn't really great timing, but waiting would have been OOC of him so at least I can get in a day of proper tagging. Do please bear with me orz.))

....When I was twelve, I dreamed of Arthur riding on his horse in the fields without his tutor and falling. A few days later it came to pass. I dreamed of that wretched Lady Sophia and of the Questing Beast. They all came true.

[It's never been anything that he's actually faced, as far as he knows. He thinks of himself as knowledgeable enough about magic to be able to fight it, and recognise it when he sees it. Foreseeing the future...

That's something he's only heard about, and been unsure if it existed. He doesn't want to believe it, which is why he leans forward again, pressing his hands together as he gives Morgana a long look, in complete silence.

It can't be...]

Are you certain?

[ and as he leans forward, she leans back. He could make for her throat for all that she knows and yes, she's scared. ]

I'm certain. Gaius did not listen but it is true. I see into what shall be.

I... was not even aware that such abilities really existed.

[Give him a moment; he's still turning it over in his mind, a deep frown forming on his face. It feels... like an unbelievable thing, but Morgana doesn't seem like she's joking at all.]

You spent years chasing magic without knowing what came along with it?

[ boldly. Here, she said it. ]

[He parts his lips to say something about having heard about it, just not really faced it, but he never actually says anything because the realisation of what Morgana just said hits him like a punch to the gut. Wait...

Did she actually say...?]

You have magic?

[No, no. Not Morgana, not one of his children.]

[ She meets his eyes and after a long moment of silence she nods without saying anything more. ]

[Suddenly he's glad he's sitting down.

Morgana has magic. His own daughter... has magic, can see the future, has magic. And he takes another long moment to take all that in, let it echo in his mind, his head lowered as he stares at the table and tries to breathe.

Morgana has magic.]

How... How long have you known?

[He tries to keep his voice from trembling, but he's not sure he fully manages.]

Since I got here. I knew what the dreams were I just...I was never willing to admit it, I was too scared.

[ through Merlin; but she really doesn't want to give Uther anymore reasons to be angry at Merlin. ]

[Scared. Of course she was scared; magic is a frightening thing, and you should fear it. People who don't are the ones who use it, the ones who are dangerous because they do not, because they think it's fine to use.

Those abilities... And Morgana has it.

He takes something like a breath and raises his head as he reaches forward for Morgana's hands, if she'll let him take them.]

Morgana... My poor child.

[Poor, poor child...]

[ She expected him to be furious. Expected him to strike her maybe, tell her that he's sorry but magic corrupts and so he must put an end up her, do anything really.

Except that.

She frowns for a moment, utter confusion on her face before - ]

I am not ill. I have magic.

[ and pity is worse than anger. ]

[He just shakes his head, squeezing her hands for a moment. There is a living proof that it's possible to turn your back on magic, to not use it and be fine even if you have the ability, there is proof in Gaius so he has no reason to think that Morgana would give in to it. He doesn't want to think she would, because it doesn't have to be that way.]

No good soul deserves to be born with such a curse.

It is no curse. No more than my skills at sewing or horse-riding, it's a talent, no more than that.

[ she is not cursed, gdi father. ]

[Not as expected.

The way he leans back in his chair is maybe almost close to reeling, and he frowns at her as if finding it hard to believe she actually said that. Comparing magic to sewing and horse-riding and calling it a talent sounds like the words of an... experienced sorcerer.]

You cannot compare sorcery to horse-riding, Morgana. It is... far more than a mere skill.

No, it isn't. One cannot help being born with it and one may do whatever they please with it, certainly. Perhaps it is more like being a good fighter. One can yield a sword for better or for worse. The sword is not at fault for the actions of its master.

[ a known song, she had tried telling it time and time again. ]

[Bracing his hands against the table, he stands up again, completely on reflex to stand above her because defensiveness is kicking in. Both his children have been...

He can't do this, he just can't--]

A sword is not its own living thing, it does not have its own rules, it does not make its own decisions. Magic is fickle and dangerous and is not merely controlled by the hands of its user.

My magic is not a living thing, it is not a different being than myself, we are one. I cannot separate it from me more than I can my own right arm.

[ figures he will try to see them as different, it is far more frustrating than she taught it would be. ]

You can keep it at bay if you so wish! You do not know what you are playing with, you have not seen what I have seen, and you will listen to me.

[Sorry, Morgana, you have pushed a button and there's no arguing with him right now.]

It is my gift to use as I please. Mine to learn and mine to use, I was born with it. My visions had helped me, they have helped me to keep Arthur safe and keep myself safe. You don't know the first thing about them and yet you'll show ungratefulness to people of magic who have helped Camelot. You cannot tell me how to use my own gift, I am not a subject to command.

You are my child and I am your king no matter where we are. I will not have you speaking to me like this!

[It has actually been quite a while since she did it too. It's... almost strange at this point.]

[ she's too angry to see how alike they are, both in tone and in body language. Much like him, she is blinded by her rage when it comes to this. ]

[Abruptly, he straightens completely and just stares at Morgana for a while, utterly taken aback and that is uncalled for because he thought that matter was closed, that it was fine, not...

But if that is how she intends to go about it, then he will too.]

Then you are still my ward and under my protection by the promise I made your father and you will watch your tongue.

[ Later, she'll feel guilty. This is below the belt and it's low and even she knows it. But he makes her furious that she stands too. ]

The only promise you ever kept when it came to him after you bedded his wife and sent him to his death and robbed me of any chance to escape this madness. But I am a witch, you have birthed a witch and perhaps it's his revenge from the next life for how you betrayed him.

[ she grabs her cloak, turns away. She will not see him until he apologize to her as far as she's concerned. ]

[Uther was already concerned about her before, concerned for both her and Arthur because they spent time with people he would like to keep them away from. And at this point, neither of them will wish to see him and he won't be able to keep them safe, and if something happens to them they will certainly learn but... But at what cost?

And he can't keep them close because they refuse to be kept. They're too strong for that and he can't do a thing about it. Doesn't mean he won't try, but he knows he can't.]

You do not know what you're doing. You are playing with fire and it will burn you if you are not careful. Listen to me.

[And stay, for goodness sake.]

Why? You will not see sense. You see one side of magic and you cannot see it as it is. Magic does not have to be evil and yet you treat me like a child sick with it. Why should I listen to someone who is disgusted by my own gifts?
