[Samantha opted, when setting up the feed, to go with voice only. She still looked like hell, and she didn't need anyone seeing or asking stupid questions. It wasn't their business. But, after speaking to Conan, she'd resolved that it was time to stop trying to hide from this place any further. When she spoke, her voice had a tired quality to it, but was still strong.]

So, Asgard.

I wanted to discuss something with those of you who will still speak with me right now. These powers that we have. Most of the people I see seem to think of them as a good thing, a blessing of sorts, or at least they partially make up for the tricks you had in your homeworlds. Right.

Here's the thing I wanted to talk about. Most I've spoken to seem to think of these powers as something that's being used to help other people around here, or to protect people that can't protect themselves. How do you people handle the fact that any of them can be abused, misused or mishandled? What do people around here do to prepare themselves to be protected if those powers get used for the wrong reasons? I've been thinking a lot lately about how people could protect themselves from some of these powers, and it worries me.

Not all of us are nice people, you know.

That seems, at the least, the most logical idea I've heard. Strong will's also come up, but there's not been too much to go off of. I get the feeling people have mostly just sort of 'put up' with the fact that the powers are there, assuming how bad it could get.

Yeah, that's usually how people are. While you're in control of yourself, why don't you try that idea out with someone? Strong will is something you have to build.

I think I'm going to. I just need to make sure I've got someone to shut me down if it comes down to it first. Maybe one of Freya's. Hard to defend against one of theirs.

Aren't they the ones with the energy transfer powers?

Yeah, the draining touch. I think that was them. That could shut my powers down, and if they're decent all I'd have is claws and tail. It'd be easier to fight back then. Or, maybe Charm could just shut me up for a while. [Admittedly, she knew she wasn't weak willed, whatever anyone had thought. She just hated herself was all. She wasn't sure Charm would be enough.]

Hm. [ That made sense. ]

I know some people from Freya. We could try asking them.

We could. I'm going to try starting with Merlin's group but if you hear of anyone who'd be willing to help, especially the transfer sort, let me know.

Most people here are too trusting, if I'm being really honest. Way too trusting. They're just lucky it hasn't cost them more.

Hm. [ He always just figured no one really cared. Like him. ]

Maybe this will wake 'em up, a little.

Possible, but I wouldn't bank on it. Even my going psycho for a day didn't exactly ward off that many. It takes a lot to break through the density in some noggins.

...I think that's less because they're dense and more because they were worried.

Worried? If they're worried about the kind of damage that could be done, wouldn't they start thinking about this more?

[No, it wasn't dawning on her that he might possibly have meant they were worried about her. That was a hard concept for her to grasp, really.]

That's not what I meant. They're probably worried about you. [ It's not like he knew how that would feel or anything but...he got that vibe from the whole ordeal. ]

Why? Why would they worried about me, and not the people I hurt or could have hurt? Those are the people who need worry, not me... I can figure myself out one way or another, damnit!

[Yeah, it definitely didn't make sense to her. She was the aggressor, the monster, the one who had attacked others. She didn't deserve pity or sympathy when others needed worry and concern. The attacker wasn't the one you worried about instead of the victim.

You're asking the wrong guy. I didn't really care, at the time. [ He couldn't really say he cared all that much now. ]

People are weird like that. No point in asking why.

I'm going to go with "People are stupid sometimes, no matter what you tell them." That'll just have to do for now. It's not like I'm getting much more of an explanation from most of them.

Hm. Whatever. Just try to find a solution to your problem. I'll try to help if I can.

I plan on it. Be aware that I don't make promises there won't be a body before this is over. It wouldn't have been the first person who died trying to 'help' me. But if they're going to insist and I can't run, then we're just going to have to figure something out.
