I trust all are having fun dancing to the tune of the gods. [ loki's voice can be heard before he can be seen, and when the video is turned towards him, it's clear that loki is away from the festivities of the olympics — he'd observed the first day and reached the conclusion that it was all he needed to see. at present, he's sat in a café; it's quiet, and primarily unoccupied if the noise (or lack thereof) is anything to go by.

his gaze flickers briefly to the glass just to one side of him — water, presumably — before turning back to the bracelet; his features are set in a primarily detached expression of mild entertainment. ]

Apparent satisfaction aside, I admit to curiosity on several matters: passage into Utgard has been granted, has it not? And the [ the briefest of pauses, a small quirk of his lips — private amusement, a joke only he knows the punchline to. ] king of the giants, Loki, he shares an uneasy truce with Odin, yes? I wish to know more of Utgard, and if there are any who would travel with me to the realm — be it for curiosity's sake or something more — I would be a fool to refuse company.

[ he doesn't truly mean anyone, of course; through a mixture of conversation and observation, there are only a few that loki would even come close to trusting, but the term is used out of a want for the appearance of inclusion, and curiosity as to who would offer. he pauses again, attention sliding from the bracelet to the table ground for several moments, expression shifting to a pointed (deliberate) look of thought and recollection. ]

[ the name is uttered with a degree of deliberation and a hinted lack of familiarity, and after a few moments, he raises his gaze back to the bracelet. ] Ruler of Jötunheim or — I believe they call it Thrymheim here, do they not? [ beat. ] None are aware of a previous king, are they? A Laufey, perhaps, and what his fate may have been? [ a beat, and a genial smile. ] Idle curiosity and nothing more; I shan't mind if an answer is unforthcoming. [ it'd be preferred, in truth; for as much as he detests the majority of the differences between 'his' asgard and this one, the presence of laufey — or more specifically, the death of laufey — would be a particular hindrance. ] But on the matter of Jötunheim, have any been there? Or if not, have any held discourse with her or her kind, be it in person or through these— [ he waves a hand towards his bracelet dismissively. ] toys?

[ a beat, and he sits up a little straighter, leans forward a little more, and his tone gains a touch of earnestness. ] I find myself wondering: if we are here as mere cannon fodder and warriors for gods that care little for our plights, should we not be seeking to avoid the eventuality altogether? Are you all so content to sit and wait for whatever the fates bring you and [ a twitch of his lips. ] Asgard?

Sarcasm. I assume you hate this place. I'd hate being dragged somewhere and kidnapped by myself and made to serve like some emotional battery for jump-starting a dying world, assuming that's not bogus.

[Actually, she thought about that, about the idea of being kidnapped by herself. It made her eyes widen a little before she shuddered and put that thought out of her head. That was not a good direction to think.]

for the trip to utgard, he'd opted to wear the clothes he'd arrived in asgard wearing; he'd obtained others since, of course, but if he were to travel to utgard from asgard, he was keen on punctuating the point that he was not from this asgard and, should events progress as he desired at a later point, that he was not even asgardian.

samantha isn't hard to spot — red hair and horns tend to stand out — and he approaches her without a word of greeting. ]

[She looked up and took in the look of him. A little formal, but it still looked about right from the video earlier. She motioned to the carriage and hopped on. Her tail was not visible, shoved into her jeans as it was. When she was inside, she put a hat on her head and attempted to relax into the seat provided. Perhaps 'carriage' was something of a misnomer. It was more just hitching a ride on a cart headed the same way. But all the same, it saved walking and was a little faster, not to mention the guy probably knew the way.]

[ whilst loki has his pride and vanity in abandon, he's not so prideful as to refuse transportation simply because it doesn't fit with what he feels he deserves — a means to an ends was simply that, and he's more than aware of the fact. as such, he seems entirely unbothered by the cart-come-carriage, and relatively content to travel by it.

when samantha speaks, his attention shifts towards her and after regarding her for a moment, he gives a slight shake of his head. ]

[ it's uttered in a even, matter-of-fact manner; he'd made a point of looking her up on the bracelet after they'd spoken, and therefore, whilst he'd made no mention of it, gave no indication of knowing, he had been aware of her name. he pauses briefly, mild amusement playing at his features. ] I'd remark on manners, but I'm aware they're hardly universal.

Hardly. Of course, I've had a problem with them for a while now. I didn't spend that much time around proper society when I was growing up.

So, then, Loki. I've spoken with a few of the people here who seem at least to have their heads on straight. How long have you been trapped in this place, sent to 'save the world?'

Based on Asgard's calendar? Twenty-one days. Do keep in mind though, Samantha, that it's not merely a matter of 'saving the world'. If what we've been told is indeed the truth, we're here to save all worlds, not just Asgard.

That's assuming I believe one word that faceless witch told me when I got here. The only thing I'm dead certain of is that the gray works. It's very real, and damned unpleasant, so that'll work as far as incentives go for the time being.

[ the corners of his lips quirk upwards momentarily, and he sits back, regarding her before speaking. ] The threat of Ragnarök is not merely a story to scare little Asgardian children at bedtime, Samantha. It's a very real and true threat, and you'd do well to keep it in mind if you believe nothing else you've been told of this realm. If it comes and Asgard falls, being grey will be the first thing you wish for.

I don't doubt the existence of the event. I am not sure I believe them that this is what they say it is. I can tell there's a fight going on, but elaborate hoaxes aren't something that's new to me. Maybe not this elaborate, but elaborate enough.

I suspect that if this is Ragnarök, it's barely started.

Not nearly enough fire, brimstone and hell breaking over to be the real thing yet. I'll definitely say that. I'm not going to say for certain I don't believe it is. I just don't want to take their word for it on anything. It's not like they've done anything that engenders trust, now is it?

[ there's an amused hum at her remark, followed by a subtle shake of his head. ] It's not their word I'm looking to for proof of this.

Exactly the same with me. If it's real, then that's a bridge to cross when the time comes. For now, it's 'figure out what's really going on here' time. Everything else comes along with. I really don't like relying on their crap for power.

[Least of all their choice.]

Then what would you rely on for power? [ mild interest. ]

Skill and cunning are the sort of thing people underestimate way too often. It's just a question of what tools are really available at my disposal.

[The answer was cryptic, but she wasn't about to just say that she wanted access to the few magical herbs that grew in Asguard. She barely knew for certain that the licensing existed, but it was about the only option she'd immediately gotten wind of that could be turned to her advantage.]
